x2 + -20x + 36 Reorder the terms: 36 + -20x + x2 Factor a trinomial. (2 + -1x)(18 + -1x) Final result: (2 + -1x)(18 + -1x) http://www.algebrahelp.com/calculators/equation/factoring/

Think about the different factors of 36, then find two which add up to 20 (well, or negative 20, but if they add up to 20 you can just negate both ![]() 1 * 36 2 * 18 3 * 12 4 * 9 6 * 6 Do you see two which add up to 20? Those will determine which two constant numbers you have in your factored solution. Edit: Or I suppose you could just do the whole problem for him -____-. Re-ordering so that x is on the right is weird, by the way.

You don't need to worry about the lcd for problem 1. (4/7)t² = 7/4 Multiply both sides by 7/4 to get t² by itself. t² = 49/16 Now take the square root of both sides to get t. t = 7/4

Add 7/4 to both sides, then divide by 4/7 on both sides (so that you are getting t² on its own side) (dividing by 4/7 is the same as multiplying by 7/4). Then square root both sides and you end up with t = something (which I won't tell you so you still have something to do ![]() Basically the strategy is to move everything except for t to the right side of the equation and leave t on the left side. At the end to make sure your answer is correct, plug the value you got for t back into the original equation and make sure that the left side really does equal the right side. Edit: jesus christ, beaten again -___- Edit2: made one of the sentences read a little nicer ![]()

this online program sucks. it like defeats learning because i can only submit my answers 3 times before they are recorded and the assistance thing doesnt work when i have questions >< somehow i got 3 wrong?? (x + 8)^2 = 36x x^2 + 16x + 36 - 36x = 0 (set to standard form) x^2 - 20x + 36 = 0 (x - 18) (x -2 ) = 0 zero property for each means x = 18 and x = 2 ?

(x + 8)^2 = x^2 + 8x + 8x + 64 = x^2 + 16x + 64, not + 36 I didn't notice you were trying to factor the wrong thing since I only read the last post and didn't read earlier ones since I figured they had already been addressed :/
