Alright, I've really had it for now! I'm sorry to have you read this rant, but I am so frustrated right now, and I need your advice on it: In every single one of my last 20 or so games on ICCUP (D range btw), I've gotten cheesed or semi-cheesed to death. Does anybody actually want to play the game, or are those lamers just after the stats? It's just so downright frustrating, if you're a 300 APM Terran and you lose to some 80 APM Zerg who's just all-in with some speed Zerglings. It really takes away my motivation to play and I don't want this to happen. How do you deal with such things? Waiting for your suggestions..

Usually all-in means they want to end the game quickly (as in "I'm too good to waste my time with you"). Don't rush for the economy builds - for example TvZ 2rax exp. Why not just play safe? Or scout more, if you go for a risky BO.
|
Yes, that's an option, but I'd rather practise my 1 Barracks FE. Guess I have to resort to cheese as well to reach the higher levels, where cheesing is not so much used..
|
First I think you got unlucky. Second I think you shouldn't brag about your APM. Third I think you should play safer if you want to avoid being cheesed. Fourth I think it's so much fun to hold a cheese rush and win the game.

Hmm... I would think that this game is not about who has more APM, but about who wins. If you stubbornly refuse to go for a safer build after having been killed so many times after going for a FE, why do you blame your opponents for choosing a right strategy against you?

your own fault losing to cheeses learn to play safe if you're so sure that you're better than your opponents - scout on 9, don't 1rax cc, bunker always at expo, and just scout more
blaming losses on 'lamers' allining you is never constructive. losing to a bunch of lamers in a row... what are we supposed to say? to be honest i love being cheesed at the lower ranks because it's so easy to defend and win

Second I think you shouldn't brag about your APM.
I really didn't mean to brag, I just wanted to point out, that I could play the game, if they would let me and tbh, I think most of my opponents were below my skill. But no matter how many APM you've got, 6 Marines will always lose vs 20+ Speedlings.
On the other hand, you are probably right about my stubborness. I always choose a macro-orientated build. But as I said before, I try to practise a standard opening, not defending vs cheesy builds. Maybe ICCUP on lower ranks isn't the place to practise those things.

Don't know about iccup, but playing on bnet almost every Terran would try to FE. There's no reason not to 9 pool if it's what your opponent does every single time and they're whorish about it. If it were about practicing a build, well there's your inherent weakness right there. Either compensate for it and be more conservative or stop fast expanding.

I love people crying about cheese. Play safe and scout properly, Mr. Godly 300 APM.

i hate cheese but i love too eat it

Am I like the only person to have never gotten cheesed on Iccup?
Anyways I agree that if you can't defend against most cheese strats properly, then you should probably stay in the D range until you can do so. You give me the impression that you think cheeses are insta-win when in reality they're probably one of the easiest things to defend against (that is if the player really is inferior to you). Most people I know who complain about cheese don't do so because they lose all the time, but because it's boring playing against a cheeser =/
In terms of advice I'm not really sure what to say that hasn't already been said, scout properly, play more safely, and if you really are 300 apm use your superior micro to beat them down. I mean when I was a noob and tried to cheese people who were far better than me, they could stop me by using only their workers. If you're really 300apm vs 80apm I'm sure that's not out of your range to accomplish.

You should not play with me eigher, because I like to 5 pool on longinus vs P, and 9/10 proxy gates vs T in the middle of tau cross(or other small map without possible barricades, and buildable middle).
I do it every now and then, but part of startegy is you know a certain high number % of people go for certain strategy which this one counters. Somebody should actually test how high can one get using just these types of builds.

whats up with your opponents, they all are less skilled than you... maybe people who posted here are not as wise as you. If you are above everyone, you should statistically win more than lose. Unless you are wrong about your opponents or your outstanding, high level skill, which would usually lead to OSL finals, is hindered by being unflexible bo-wise or other con of your play. Try thinking about your opponents not as underdogs, but as equal. They might overcome their apm deficit with good gameflow management or having good strategy repertoire. Not to mention its more fun this way and not as much frustrating. hmm, I had 160 apm when I used to play, ignore this post

At least you make me laugh about myself.

I used to have that type of mentality, but on a ladder where your record is important, you can't play like your opponent is your best friend, and neither of you cares who wins or loses.
So I'll tell you what people here told me when I cried about cheese on PGT: cry more, play safe, and scout.
