Ok we all have stereotypes about ethnic groups, but now a question arises regarding the so called "overachieving asians" , a lot of the asian overachievers are primarily the sons and daughters of first generation asian immigrants parents. Mow of course stereotypes have origins and truth to them but they still can be false. So my question is, do second or fourth generation Asian parents raise their children with as much vigor and sternness as their first generation counterparts?

not really. but maybe.
mostly not really

I think a great problem in the world is that in the US "Asian = Asian = Asian," and no consideration is taken for those who come from poorer parts of Asia where the emphasis is on subsistence in all rural areas, not on education. I think this leads to enormous disparity because those who come to the U.S. from Asian nations with a generally lower socio-economic status are not more likely to get scholarships because they are still just "Asian" and all Asians are smart and overachieving.
I have no idea about your question though.

My kid will find cure for cancer while playing violin with his left hand and playing piano with his right while setting the world record for a 100 m sprint.
So yes.

Depends on the success of the 2nd generation I guess... iunno but I would think that if you realized that being an overachiever brought you success you might teach it to your children, but obviously you would remember when you were annoyed by being forced to do blah blah... interesting question

When I was a kid, I hated it when my parents told me to do extra math problems on the weekends... but then at some point in your life, you realize how much you benefited from those hours spent when you were young.
I think it's worth it, so I'll make sure some of that shit is forced into my kids too, maybe even more, so he can be better than me in every way.

i didnt spend more than 30 minutes of my time outside of highschool working on anything and i turned out just fine
of course it sucked when i came to uni and was not ready to work outside of classes, but i learned quickly and now its no big deal

To add to that, I'm spanking.

So yes. he will then pilot a big fucking robot into the sky and stop a war between his race and the humans, to which there will be a sequel series that is a mirror copy of the first series and be a big fucking letdown

Asians in America are brought up like Americans.
Asians in Asia though, keep getting a hurt real bad.
|
Anyone else hear the term ABCs? American-Born Chinese? Haha I found it funny how much disdain immigrant Asians had for the ABCs in my area.
|
Disdain? more like disgust and rightly so. fucking bananas
There is a Chinese saying which goes something like this: success never past 3 generations. In 2 generations, your kids will eat the same american food, think in american, have american wives and you will make mad money and spoil your kid because he think he is special.
Then it will go downhill from there.

I have no idea about your question though. If in the U.S, people give favorable advantages and arbitrarily/ stupidly decide which race of immigrants can come from what country while basing an entire region of people and their abilities on stupid ambigous stereotypes then I have lost all faith in the U.S. This has to explain how Bush got into office for two terms and also why Ron Paul didn't win the republican nomination as he was the most sane of all the candidated the republicans has to offer. This also explains why U.S society is primitive compared to other developed nations, and why we are trllions of dollars in debt and why there are still retarded people who think Bush is doing a good job, and also why we have actaul people believing creationism in this country.

Sounds to me that you lost your faith in the U.S. a long time ago.... let me see.... you call the U.S. society primitive compared to other developed nations, you point out that the U.S. is trillions of dollars in debt and you call the majority of U.S. voters (well majority in 2004 :/) retarded and think that the U.S. president is doing a bad job and yet you retain faith in the country? only this trivial thing about asians pushes you over the edge and you simply give up? I find that hard to believe. (Just a pet peeve of mine when people do that. Like when people have already given up on the US and then go "This makes me lose all faith in the US" and when these people happen to love RP that amplifies the effect)

Damn, these last two posts have got to be amongst the least coherent stuff I've read recently.

Like when people have already given up on the US and then go "This makes me lose all faith in the US" and when these people happen to love RP that amplifies the effect) Your right, I've lost even more faith in this country and I would want nothing more to live abroad and I'm sure a alot of rational people want leave to this shithole of a place anyway. Right now I certainly am not able to but in the future I will. I mean c'mon you have to admit, U.S culture is extremely primitive, we do we have the world's largest crime rate? We do have the highest world suicide rate? Why is racism and hypocritic xenophobia more rampant in the U.S then other countries? Why is raping in prisons and sometimes ordinary life here in the U.S being tolerated so lightly? And yes the majority of U.S voters are retarded as a fact since Bush was elected to two terms and Mccain won the current republication nomination; and the fact that Hillary and Obama (two establishement candidates) are the leading democratic candidates when honest and sane people like Kucinich and Gravel were ignored by the coporate media, while the establishment made every move againts them while the people fell for the media crap further proves my statement. Oh did I mention about the U.S being in debt and fighting countless wars? Oh yes, we also have the corrupt useless federal reserve and the war in Iraq has costed us billions and plunging us into a near depression while costing us our foreign policy and people still can't see through it. We have people who believe in creationism and we have republicans whom criticize gay's yet has sex with gay men in bathroom's. We have built a useless border fence near the mexican border for more useless billions of dollars yet we freely let established/connected and wealthy connected (perhaps in a not so nice way) mexicans pass the border freely. We also don't let Canadians pass the border easily due to some unknown mostly more stupid xenophobia rooting from stereotypes even though the border trade is precious to both the economies of both countries in the area. We also have the worst humans rights records in the world and even China can criticize us and tell us not to preach to them about the Olympics. We are continueing a failed war on drugs and marijuana is still illegal even though sources provide otherwise. The older baby-boomer-generation of America only know how to do paperwork and watch laywer shows, why is the U.S behind Japan and some European countries technologically? The old people of the 60's survived through the sputnick era and invented things like GENETIC ENGINEERING, GENETIC ENGINEERING with a ounce and a table spoon of salt compared to the technology we have today and yet we aren't even nearing half of the level of innovations that the older generation in the 60's did; yet we are behind. We also have a failed healthcare system, and our education system is flawed and bureacratic. We have national honors societies, bells, valedictorians, class ranks, extra curricullers yet Finland and other some nations does not yet they are top the world rankings in Math, science, and reading. This place comes to very close to a living hell for the unprivileged and unfortunately due to some lame ass idiotic old people and their happy-go "gifted" kids, following and preaching to us about the hypocritical wise words of some sick old nutjobs whom created the U.S consitution (somewhat flawed) that deosn't allow multiple parties or much support for third party candidates, whom also had children with black slaves centuries ago. Those same kids and those old women continue sucking the dicks of stupid racist teachers and idiotic priests. So yes I have lost alot of faith in the U.S long time ago and I'm losing more and more everyday, I would hope nothing more then a peaceful life overseas.

AND I just went to 4chan for the first time yesterday. Thats what happens when you visit 4chan, big complex information seems incomprehensible to you. You also do not have the ability to understand or break down big bunches of text or information, while you make pointless stupid criticism. Thats what happens in 4chan and you catch it, I'm afraid its going to take a while for it to wash away my friend.

LOL @ some of the posts. I remember one time when my friends and I were chillin. This was the following convo:
ME: When my son grows up, he's gonna be kickin ass.
My friend: Oh yeah? Well my son's gonna be pumpin ass.
Both: ROFLMAO

@ nimsya:
In your second post, in 3 sentences, you go from: - Racism in the U.S. to - Bush being terrible, and everyone being stupid for not voting for Ron Paul to - Our country being in debt and creationism.
Your most recent post was a big blob of text with words separated by GENETIC ENGINEERING! I'm just saying a little bit of formatting and thought could make you a lot more understandable.

Okay. Definitions for the following post: 0th gen=immigrants 1st gen=kids of immigrants/moved when very young 2nd gen= kids of kids of immigrants
By my definition, I'm a second gen asian. The only one in my high school area, and I haven't found one in my uni area yet. From personal experience, I've been raised a lot less strictly than my first/zero gen friends. On the other hand, I'm personally motivated for success, i.e. I actually do want to be a doctor, I got good grades in High School, etc. Not sure if this answers your question or not, but that's my experience.
