I recently found someone in the same boat as me, someone who posted a comment on one of the replays on GosuGamers.net, one of the recent Protoss vs Zerg replays.
In his comment, it said:
iam a protoss player and allways hope for toss to win pvz... but this time i r00ted for zerg, very nice rep, 9 / 10
It made me think, why would he root for the Zerg player when he always hopes for the Protoss to win? I then related this with me and I realized I had some kind of bond with my race. I realized, I too hope for the Protoss in ANY game to win; I am torn apart when watching PvP reps. But, I can't explain it! Why am I so attached to my race?
I feel like, every time I watch a replay, every time I watch a VOD, a match on youtube, an obs game, etc, I want the Protoss to win. If I am spoiled the results to a series that involves a Protoss and that Protoss loses, I will not watch. I just have this inextricable bond with the race I play, yet, when I try to switch over to a different race, it's not the same. I tried going with Terran and playing with Terran to get this off my back but I still wanted Protoss to win. I'd play Terran and rape here and there, but, when I get truly raped by a Protoss player, it makes me want to go back. I can't root for Zerg or Terran when they face Protoss players because I just don't feel right doing it, and I'm sure it's the same for all Terran/Zerg players.
I just feel like the bond with Protoss players is much stronger, since we've dealt with the most dissatisfaction...
Anyone else in the same boat?

I was hoping you had more romance problems.
But I have a strong tendency to cheer on the Zerg players as I am Zerg. No Toss love here.

No, nothing much going on with me, just being emo here.
Also, yeah, I felt like that was true; a bond with the race you play is unavoidable, but I just can't explain it.
I can't cheer on any other race, I don't even watch TvZ, ZvZ, or TvT reps because there aren't Protoss players in them.

I always do this too! I barely ever watch VODs without Zergs in them, and I refuse to watch VOD's where Zerg players (COUGH SAVIOR COUGH) lose, unless it's something exceptionally groundbreaking.
I still havent watched sAviOr vs Bisu on Katrina or sAviOr vs FBH on Katrina, solely because he loses

I think it's because you truly love playing as protoss and you want to believe that your race is superior to everyone else's. Pretty much the same reason why people cheer for their home country in the olympics even if they move to another country. There's still a sense of belonging to that specific group, no matter how small the feeling might be, that isn't replicated by the other choices.
At least that's how I feel when watching Protoss reps/vods. I chose to play as Protoss and I wish to believe that I chose the manliest race of all. I mean if I see Protoss lose...then that makes me feel like my race isn't so manly T.T

Ya, because I play zerg I don't really like to watch vod's that aren't live and doesn't have zerg in it . And I pretty much always root for zerg.

I tend to bond more with players than with races. When players I hate (for no apparent reason) win, I usually don't watch the VODs.

I was watching Jaedong v Kal, and despite being a Protoss player, I was crushed when Jaedog lost. I found myself rooting harder for him than I had any player in any previous match, tense, on edge, disbelieving that Jaedong could be behind.
Then he rallied forth, he annihated legions of Protoss and I felt exultant, thrilled watching a young player of my own race fall before the perfection of LJD.
Honestly though, it doesn't have much to do with race. I like all races and most matchups and root for players. Also, the hardest I ever rooted was for Bisu against Mind, and see how that turned out -_--.

I used to be all Zerg but I never did feel your loyalty. I do always root for Zerg versus and Terran. Beyond race loyalties a more interesting subject is how certain personalities are attracted to certain races.

I have a similar thing, but it's just that most of my favorite players are Protoss, because it's my race. When I go through TLPD looking for games to learn, I only watch ones where the Protoss wins so I can gain insight into getting better, I don't want to learn how to lose. I have a certain select few players who I would in some circumstances like to see beat a Protoss, if it is one of the Protosses about whom I feel meh (Savior, Boxer, Flash, NaDa, Yellow). But also, for example, I want to see Nal_rA beat everyone, Reach beat everyone who is not Nal_rA etc...

I feel a very intense loyalty for my race, which is zerg. I've never played any other race and I would never consider it. My good friend is also a zerg player (one of the best in Canada I think), and for a while he was thinking of switching races to terran because he was getting really frustrated with zvz. It really devastating me to think he could abandon zerg. I felt like he was leaving me. But I guess he realized his terran sucked and came to his senses.
But yeah, it's painful for me to watch a zerg lose. D:

I prefer these kind of blogs, personally
Yes, I have that same connection to the protoss race. I get this unsettling feeling if I know the protoss is going to lose in a game, which is probably why I prefer watching spoiled games where protoss already wins. Due to my obsession with protoss, I know very little about the matchups outside the 3 protoss matchups.

Here here! I tried playing Zerg once and realized I didn't even know any build orders, so I had to go BO hunting everywhere.
XD This was recent, too!

I am a protoss player but I usually root for terran to win in reps. Like I will watch the terran most of the time. I think this is because I play terran also and to me terran is the hardest race, so when people play it i have respect for them when they win. I usually never watch the zerg.
However, priority always goes towards who is playing. For example, if nal_ra is playing, I will always watch him no matter who he is playing. Based on how much I like the players determines who I root for; following this is race.
