So I'm just building my own computer for the first time and I encountered some problems after I put it together.
When I turn it on, it dies after like 1 second and then starts again, so thats just weird.
Anyway, soon I hear the motherboard beeping the signal for "no vga detected". I check the graphic card, and its fan isn't working.
So I take away some of the devices, leaving only cpu, ram and video card plugged in (I just want the bios to start). But still "no vga detected" and the video card fan not moving.
I need your help!
parts:
Asus P5B SE motherboard
Intel core 2 duo
Radeon Sapphire 2600 HD PRO 512mb
2*1024mb corsair ddr2

also the video card is a PCIex16 one, and I just inserted it into that slot, nothing else.

Hopefully a silly question, but did you connect the PCI-E 6 pin power connector to the video card?

u have any digi cam around? might make helping much easier with some pictures to show where to connect the cable and stuff.

Doesn't look like there's anywhere to put it. Unless those 3 pins wants power, and they look like jumper-thingies.

Sorry, I'm not too up to date with ATI tech, I thought the HD PRO was one of the dual-GPU cards. A cursory search reveals this model doesn't require a separate PCI-E power connector.

Yeah, so if it's plugged in the fan should be spinning right?
Perhaps somethings wrong with the card. I was very gentle with it though, don't believe I did something to it.
Any explanation as to why it dies 1 second after I turn it on, and then starts again?

ok so it had nothing to do with that jumper.
Video card only works when my monitor is not plugged in.
I use an old CRT and use an adapter to convert to the dvi-i slot on the video card.
You think it would work if I got a tft lcd monitor? because I was going to get one of those soon anyway.

seems my vga cable was broken, replaced it and it works now
only problem I havn't got any windows version right here. Oh well I think I got an old xp cd at my parents house

Formatting a 500gb disk now, this is gonna take like 2 hours haha
I probably should have partitioned just a small 10 gig and installed windows on it, but I'm not good with those things

I feel you, I got a entirely new system recently [ built and sent by maleorderbride who posts here who is a wonderful wonderful man and very professional ] and I'm no good at keeping data on the big partition and just programs on my windows partition.
It just makes sense if my shit was to crash somehow but I just like everything on the same location X_x.
Edit: Glad you got things fixed, I can't imagine how hard it would've been to guess/find out the VGA cable was to fault that's pretty low on things to test for.

Yeah you are so right, I felt pretty desperate having spent money on a computer, and it wouldn't start.
Tried like everything and then
connect monitor to card -> no work
disconnect everything from card -> fan spins
unplugged cable from back off monitor -> no work
unplugged same cable from card ->works!
So it had to be the cable, really lucky that I tried that though
