But I feel the need to share, I'm actually pretty excited about this... I've been trying to get a promotion at work, and just found yesterday I got it. I'll be starting on the 24th, making about 15k USD more a year than I do now. Going to be a supervisor at Comcast, that's a scary thought. ^_^

congratulations mate, there is no other feeling for an ego boost than a promotion or a pay raise, basically someone saying, "You're awesome"

I have my self pegged for a promotion which will mean extra 12-16k a year plus a car and expense account. All I am waiting for is one of the current reps to retire and boss to find a replacement for me. I'm thinking 6-8 months.

It's inappropriate to ask that kind of question, up front, in public. Maybe it's different in Germany, but from my perspective that's a rude question to ask. If he's cool with it, then that's fine, but most people wouldn't expect such a direct question.

15k right now is roughly half of what I make in a year anyways (so you people even remotely good at basic math should be able to figure out what I make now + what I will be making), so I consider 50% a damn good raise, and while making about 44k is not all that impressive, it's not bad considering I'm only 23.

Eh, go for it. Seriously. Anyone with any problem/issue with Comcast let me know and I'll see what I can do. If you're in MD/VA/DE, I can do just about anything for you, other areas, I'm a bit more limited but I can still give advice.

Btw - Thanks everyone!

It also depends a lot on where you live. In some areas 44k is great at your age/etc. I am like a year younger than you but do very well... at the expense of: I can't afford to live away from my parents right now XD.

Congratulations, nice raise there, I must say. Just out of curiosity, what kind of educational process did you go through, if I may ask? Also, is this a rather average or above-average salary concerning American standards? How long do you work per week? I hope you don't mind these questions, I'm just really curios about American working conditions, since I don't know much about it.

Hey man, congrats!

I've been at this job nearly a year and am going to be asking for a large raise soon. I'm pretty nervous, despite having good backup for everything I'm asking for.

It won't be no 50% though -_-
That shit's crazy.

I get paid about 200 per week sporadically (meaning some weeks I don't get paid). Hey, not bad for 62 hours a week of work!

It's really a cultural thing. Germans are very direct people and such a question would not be considered offensive. As a matter of fact it's like the first question people ask me when I tell them what I do.

Educational process - Nothing special, just the standard training they offer (6 weeks) plus some prior experience.

Salary - Most definitely not above average, pretty standard I think... it will at least allow me to start thinking about a house instead of living in this apartment forever.

Hours - 40 hours a week. Pretty standard for any full-time position in the US (except for Zil).

It causes too much tension, a friend of mine asked me how much I make a little while back, I was reluctant to tell him, I said I would rather not. He nagged and I eventually did, he then got pissed off that I was making more money than him, because he had been at his job longer... he still hasn't got over it.

44 is certainly pretty good for someone in their early 20s. its nothing amazing, but anyone would be damn happy to get paid that (like myself ._.)
