Do casters call it Comstat? God I hope it’s just casters I haven’t encountered, not something common that I’d never noticed but after this thread will now torture me in every broadcast.

I hadn’t really thought much of what Comsat meant until you shockingly revealed people can’t read tooltips properly. Assuming it just stands for Communications Satellite?

Edit: I don't really think so, I'm just trying to reduce the pain I feel. I've been misled.

I can see how someone could misread it though.

Assuming it just stands for Communications Satellite? Communications Satellite Station is how I read it in long form too. Not sure where an extra T would fit in with this interpretation. Edit: I'm not sure how this is an English language issue either. It's the first three letters of each word. Please explain if possible.

But why would "Comsat Station" (which is the full name) be short for "Communication Station Station". That would be redundant.

People mispronounce or misspell things all the time. Whether it was done on purpose - to intentionally create a new portmanteau - or accidentally, it happens.

Communication Satellite Station. Because the means of communicating is less important than the fact that it is a place for communications. Satellite can be assumed because it is space and the infrastructure for other styles of long distance communication are prohibitively expensive. People say comstat, not comstat station.

No one other than apparently Artosis says comstat. You are writing as if it actually is called comstat but it isn't.

However i would like to add that the "Com" part could be also a reference to the internet, the .com domain, as at the time of development (1996-1997) the internet was vaguely known to most of mankind. So it would be a "double wammy" if you will, relating to communications and the above mentioned. I am not at all in agreement with the "Station" part: first of all, where would the personall be staying? The first dish on the left seems to be part of a platform that would hypotetically move up and down adjusting its degree. And futhermore, this is an addon, and as we all well know it operates only under the preset of having a Command Center Attached to it. Without it its non operational, dark, and so unmanned. In comparison the Nuclear Silo is clearly unmanned, and things in Broodwar seem to operate in a similar way when similar in nation. Also, and this would be complete speculation, i don' t think the comsat uses technology that would be known to mankind today, but rather some advanced form of energy control (as the Protoss and Zerg use as well). The "Sparks" that a comsat emits when it is activated at a location suggests that much like the Recall and Stasis ability, the comsat (Albeit through the Satellite system) is actually materializing some kind of "matter" at the said location, which then allows for a temporary view of a definite surrounding area, before said matter dissolves in the earth or air?
