You might remember my post last year.

This year's will be much shorter.

FUCK YEAH MY BOY ISHIGURO DID IT YESSSSS

Frankly, I always thought he had a good shot of winning it eventually but I figured he was too young and needed another 5 - 10 years and another 1 - 2 major works under his belt. However, it turns out Ishiguro is actualy already 62 and not the early- to mid-50s I thought he was (where did the time go?), so perhaps it's not so surprising. Brilliant author and a brilliant choice. Definitely helps with erasing the bad taste of last year's fiasco.

Maybe I should make a series out of this.

I'm quite partial to his two biggest hits, The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go, but having read all of his works save for The Buried Giant, you really can't go wrong just picking one out of a hat.

Start with either Remains of the Day or Never Let Me Go. Some people say The Buried Giant and I can sort of see it but I think it's better saved for later. Never Let Me Go is really really sad and melancholic but it's not necessarily "good."

I read The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go a long time ago and enjoyed both quite a bit. Just ordered The Buried Giant from the library.

nice blog, csheep. i was really happy with the announcement too. his stuff is all great of course, but i have a major weakness for his first novel, a pale view of hills. there's something about it that really gets to me... maybe the amount of restraint in someone so young? something like that
