I'm going to use this as a journal through my journey back into the realm of competitive StarCraft 2. If you'd like to come with me through the journey, please tag along! I hope to help someone or at least inspire someone along the way.
A bit of background:
I started playing StarCraft 2 during the Wings of Liberty beta, and promptly got addicted. I'd only ever played Brood War with friends on UMS games, so a Counter-Strike player coming to SC2 with a ladder system was intriguing for me. I spent the large majority of my undergrad playing Wings of Liberty, only ever finishing as high as Platinum. I probably could have made the push for Diamond at the time due to what I was seeing on my replay statistics and the ranks of my opponents, but I never did.
Fast forward to today - it's 10:50 pm at night, I'm a full-time choir teacher at a Catholic high school and a professional musician with several choirs in my area, and I have parking duty at 7:00 am tomorrow morning. I really should go to bed.
However, in chatting with a buddy, I realized that I miss being able to come home and play 2-3 ladder games a night and seeing how they go. I'm a Zerg player through and through - if you ever see me on ladder doing something other than trying to play a macro game where I can literally just bully you with the power of the Swarm, something is probably wrong. I'm currently in Gold 3 and am going to see how far I can progress by simply getting back into the mental gymnastics that are the game whenever I can during the day, then seeing if I can translate and apply those skills in-game in the evening for 2-3 matches. I'll be using sc2replaystats to upload and parse my replays, so any games that I play I'll post here and if you feel so inclined to comment and offer comments/concerns/questions/prayers, I'd love to interact with you. I'll put my thoughts along with the replay links as well; hopefully this will track my thinking as I try to progress through the ladder!
Here are tonight's games:
I began both games with a 17hatch, 18gas, 17pool opener that I found on allthingszerg.com. Here are the results. I hardly ever scout at my level - I really want to focus on my macro and ensuring that I can win the game that way. Yes I know that I need to incorporate more than overlord scouting, but one thing at a time!
ZvT - This one was a dumb loss on my part. I thought I was okay to go kill him, then he shows up with Liberators. I got salty at the end because f u srsly.
ZvP - This one felt more like me getting to play my game. As soon as I got my natural up and running, I felt good about what was going on. As soon as I saw what he was doing with his air units and found his gold base, I felt even better and just kept up the aggression until I muscled him out of the game.
Like I said, questions/comments/concerns/prayers? Please don't hesitate to let me know!
