This day was no different than any other days. These guys were tough. They had been placed at their current base of residence under Raynors command. If there were anyone out there to take care of this mission it was squad "Alpha"
Squad Alpha consisted of four members. David (Leader) Tommy (Engineer) Dominic (Heavy machinery) & Johnny (Medic).
On this particular day though, they were five. A former marine, named Jimmy was sent to join squad Alpha on their mission for unknown reasons. Jimmy was known back home for being a retard. He had been discharged a few years earlier for "misbehaving conduct" whatever that meant. Not that squad alpha cared anyway... They just wanted to complete their mission.
...
...
*Bang* -Tommy "Was it really neccesary for you to take that shot on their zerg egg David? Now you've startled the zerglings...
-David "I don't care. A dead coccoon is a good coccoon"
-Johhny "Hey guys! They're coming towards us now! Stop them!"
*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*
David took point behind a big rock. Lifted his head above and took a few shots at the zerglings coming towards them.
David had always had exceptional aim. He didn't miss a single shot.
-Dominic "Goddamn man, you sure took out those zergs allright!"
-David "Now let's go check out why they are coming to close to our base. This isn't normal... not even for zergs.
David takes a deep breath, *sigh* He's not too happy about the zerglings.
Squad Alpha proceeds towards the minor (former) zerg colony. Now dead, to David's exceptional shots. It's hot. very hot. The mar sara desert is unforgiving, but not unexpected. The entire Squad is tired of the heat, but they have to keep going. These guys are on a mission.
-David "Hey Johhny come look at this, this zerg egg is red, what's that about..."
-Johhny "You sure is right. I ain't never seen that before, that's crazy"
*Johhny proceeds to pick up the zerg cocoon*
-Johhny "There seems to be a zergling in the egg, well... a dead zergling that is"
-David "Dominic don't you have a container on you?
-Dominic "I sure do captain"
*After a very brief conversation it is determined that the red zerg egg is to be placed safely in Dominics container in order to bring it back to base to further investigate the possible contamination of the zerg egg*
But then...
-Jimmy "BANEEEEEEEEEEEEELINNNNNGS"
-David "WHAT!? where damnit where"
You see. The specific area where squad Alpha had been stationed had a massive problem with banelings burrowing into the ground. Only then to unburrow and kill marines. A local marine named Patrick had recently died to such an attack in June, which further concerned other marines & squads such as squad alpha.
Furthermore...
-David "I SAID WHERE"
-Jimmy "hahaha I sure got you good there ahaha. You guys should've seen your faces you guys looked crazy wahahah"
*-David proceeds to punch Jimmy in the face... Hard.*
-Johnny "David RELAX RELAX, He's just a dumbass, that's all"
-David "WHAT DID JONATHAN TELL YOU NOT TO DO BEFORE YOU GOT DISCHARGED HUH? NEVER FUCK AROUND WHEN YOU'RE ON A MISSION"
Jonathan used to be Jimmy's former chief back when he was still serving among the marines. Jimmy had made an unpleasant habit of fooling around about baneling attacks before. This mission was no different.
By now Jimmy was bleeding from the face. David, like any other marine, had a solid punch. The army gloves didn't exactly help ease the punch either.
-David "Why was this guy even sent to be with us, we don't need him"
-Tommy "Well captain that decision was not up to us and you know it was decided by higher command now let's finish this before sunset, we've wasted enough time allready let's get moving"
-David "Get up"
-Jimmy "Allright captain"
*Jimmy tries to hide the pain from the wound he suffered from the punch but is failing*
-Johhny "Do you need me to patch you up? I've got bandaids..."
-Jimmy "I'll be fine.... I.. think..."
Once the minor "Situation" had been cleared it was determined that Dominic head back to base with the contamined egg or coccoon as David calls it. They were not far from base and it was safe for Dominic to head back by himself.
After some more walking along the desert there seems to be no more visible signs of zerglings or zergling eggs.
-David "This is really weird, I don't like this one bit, surely the minor colony we saw near our base couldn't possibly have been the only one? They must get nutrition from somewhere but I don't see ANYTHING"
-Tommy "Could they be living underground?"
-David "Not permanentely"
-Tommy "So where are they coming from?"
-David "Well that's what we're trying to figure out right?"
Unfortunately on that day there was a sandstorm that seemed to be brewing up, and if there was one fact of matter that in place in that area, it was that nobody can venture safely in a sandstorm without the proper gear, which, of course, they didn't have at the time.
-Tommy "There seems to be a sandstorm brewing up... We need to get back to base pronto!"
-David "Obviousely we should, grab your gear fellas let's get outta here"
As the sandstorm was brewing up visibility became a challenge. Fortunately all marine squads are required to operate with some sort of millitary version of a satnav. Except this wasn't a navigation system based off of a satelite but a beacon located at the base. Given this information Squad Aplha could safely see in which direction they had to go in order to get back to base.
But then...
-Johhny "What's that bulky shadow over there?"
-David "Where?"
-Johhny "four 'o clock"
-David "I don't know, it's gotta be close... we should check it, but be careful, there could be zerglings... or even worse"
Proceeding towards the shadow. There seems to be a tiny spec of light, projected almost directly at Squad Alpha.
-Tommy "What is this glimmer I'm seeing?"
Nearing the shadow, David takes up his rifle, aims cautiousely, and moves slowly the last 6-7 meters to the shadow. Visibillity is next to nothing, they have to get close to know what they're facing, however paranoia seems to have gotten the best out of David,
-David "Guys stay back and cover me if there is anything, I go to it first. Capiche!?"
-Johhny "You wont see me contesting you on that captain. It's all yours"
Nearing the shadow. David sees that the shadow is infact a car, and old pickup that is. Probably lost in time from another sandstorm at an earlier time. There is no sign of skeletons in the car.
Squad Alpha proceeds...
-David "Guys it's all clear. It's just a car"
-Johhny "We really should check its contents. Could be valuable right?"
- David "I... Guess?"
-Tommy "There seems to be something in the glove box but I can't reach it through the door window and the door is slammed shut (sealed)
As David comes to help Tommy with the door Jimmy for some reason decides to check under the car...
A brief moment of silence is met by the gustling winds of the sandstorm. Followed up by...
-Jimmy "BANEEEEEEEEEELIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING"
-David "WOULD YOU CUT THIS SHIT OU..."
*BOOM*
Davids eardrums gets partially blown out for a few seconds, everything is black. The smell of dust and old rusty parts with mostly dried up oil decrements fill up the athmosphere around them.
There had been banelings hiding under the car.
David still didn't know what exactly had happened. He was very confused.
Jimmy was dead, Johhny was severely injured. Tommy and David had only minor injuries due to being on the right side of the car.
Banelings must've hit Jimmy as he was checking underneat the car.
-David "What just happened. What.... just... happened?"
-Tommy "Banelings man. always the banelings..."
*-David reaches for his satelite phone*
-David "Checkpoint one, checkpoint one, I repeat checkpoint one this is Alpha Squad we've been ambushed by banelings 4,5 clicks southeast of your position over"
-Control "Uhh.... roger that... we have a small rescue team with one car available for potential escort... Any casualties!?
*-David starts assembling the situation by looking at the rest of his squad*
-David "We've got one dead and one injured over"
-Control "Copy that Alpha Squad we should we en route to your position any minute now, we'll reach you as soon as we can Alpha"
-David "Roger that, Aplha out"
The end.
This was a creation that I originally did not intend to post but I thought it'd be fun anyhow. The story does not reflect on any given circumstances for any Starcraft campaign. It's just for creational purposes & fun.
If you read the whole thing then I'd just let you know thanks for reading through it. Maybe, just maybe I'll add more onto this story another time. I don't know though.
Oh and also...
Moral of story: Don't bring someone with you into combat if you can't trust them. Or else risk getting KIA'd, and nobody likes to be KIA'd.
