Hi all once again. I'll be travelling to 5 countries: UK, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy. I'll need prepaid sim cards for each country (3-5 days at each country), mainly for data usage. Is it easy to get them? I already have a card for UK. Going to Netherlands through Stena Line. Travelling to rest of countries via Eurail. Are they usually found in train stations? Also any recommended telcos for each country?

Anything else I should know :D

Hi there!

In Germany, you can get them basically anywhere. Quoting an impressive article I just looked at, you get them at a "big supermarket, drugstore, service station or electronic market chains". And of course in the stores of network providers. One of these should easily be found in or around all major train stations.

lycamobile/lebara are mainly 2g/3g networks though, been pampered with 4g networks. Thanks for replies guys, leaving tomorrow and was desperate for information. That wikia's a lifesaver XD

Just a note from an idiot who's done this wrong, pay attention to which country you're looking at the website for, vs which country you're buying it in.

I got stuck with a sim from a company that had a great roaming deal on their German website, but apparently had a completely different and much less attractive deal in Switzerland, which is unfortunately where I bought one.

I'm sure that was obvious to everyone but me, but anyway.

it doesn't, you can just buy it anywhere (most places that sell cigarettes for instance) or even small food shops. Literally everywhere =)

Buy a new sim wherever you go.

Most services in europe have tiered plans that you can use for a weeks worth of prepaid shit.

Get 3 when you are in UK, pay for the eu roaming package, i think it is like around £20 for all you can use for 1 week or something, look it up. Hands down the best travelling package out there for sure, ignore lyca/lebara unless you need to call back to india/middle east

Don't do that! contrary to popular belief, it is very hard to get some decent prepaid sim package in most of europe countries, due to telecom business is tightly linked to government/infrastructure. UK/Ireland are the 'easiest' countries you can get nice disposable cheap prepaid sim package (france/spain to certain extend but language)

Hmm I'm at London now. Bought a Three card at Heathrow. £35. Apparently I can use in swiss and Italy too, so I just need to get another card for Germany and Holland. Its probably overpriced since I don't need 12 gig data, but that's what they had. Whatever haha.

and here I am about to go bangkok. can get a sim card for 300 baht unlimited data 7 days. 35pounds is crazy >.>

I thought 3 should cover Germany? Germany gave me the biggest headache when it comes to the 'disposable traveler simcard' aspect. Just use the £5 per day service if you need it for a full day etc. And that's why 3 has been great for recent years, nobody does allowance data like them lol (others allow like 500mb-2gb).
