I finished my calibration having 3.6k+ mmr while some of my pretty good friends (who i stack most of the time) have 4k+.
This made me jealous so much and I really felt I should be at the similar mmr bracket as them. It kinda hurt my pride and made it my goal to be on the same bracket as them. I dropped a LOT after calibration (3.1k!!! =.=) and I refused to believe that I was on that bracket. It took months and a couple of experimenting on what heroes I can do, how to win the game, make an impact. Some people say that skill != mmr, although true, but It also involves with a lot of factors imo. Anyway, I'm just happy I managed to achieve my personal goal  It gave me a purpose on playing and really enjoyed the challenge. I'll probably stop playing ranked for a while now and start stacking with my friends again :3

Congrats man! 4k mmr and above 50% win rate is a lot more then lots of people can say they have achieved ^_^

Congratulations.
I once had the same goal but I've slightly given up for a moment (calibration 3.2k. went to 3.7k in a few games. now down to 3.1something). You're giving me hope.
What process hides behind your "experimenting with heroes and making an impact"?

Well, I pick heroes that doesn't need to farm a lot. Wraith King, Spirit Breaker, Nature's Prophet and Bounty Hunter. I usually don't stay too much in lane, I have to make an impact on winning my lane or at least break even. WK and BH, I just try to get level 6 fast and influence other lanes, while NP and SB I usually gank at level 2 or 3 and help other lanes win. I just mass gamed most of them to get a 'feel' and understand my hero and role. By experimenting, I play other heroes that I'm not fond off but see in my ranked games in unranked with friends. By playing the hero I usually get in ranked, I get a feel on their timings and their weaknesses.
But most of my ranked games are support WK though @_@

And you can lose all this mmr with a bad streak. Although you can avoid the same situation as me by not randoming, and start picking good heroes every game.
Just wondering, did you grind with a selected pool of heroes?

mostly i pick after 2 of my mates have picked and pick my hero accordingly, i don't counter pick rather i pick what i feel is my strong hero in this specific game

60% WK. Pretty much what I do to recover from a streak.

Man you and I have the exact same goals, being calibrated to 3.6k, having friends who should be the same standard calibrated to 4k, feeling jealous, dropping, and finally fighting to 4k.
If you had posted that you have this goal earlier we might even play together!
