Not much to report from the last few days. I did decide to switch from Zerg to Protoss. I originally picked Zerg because they are just awesome lol. They played so differently than anything else. But, I try to play a quick match with the other races every night for the xp and I noticed I was actually playing pretty well with Protoss. So I figured I would try practicing with them for a few hours and I ended up loving it. I've been using The Staircase method, by JaKaTaK, (which I recommend to everyone! Great stuff) and I've been doing a lot better with Protoss.
Since I've really gotten into SC2, I've been really focusing on "improvement". Before now I've been a pretty unfocused person, whether that's from ADD or me just not caring I'm not really sure. Over the past few weeks I've really gotten good at repeating thing in my head over and over. For example, "build probes, build probes, build probes, are you building probes?" I've been thinking about how I can use this method to improve other aspects of my life and the first thing I thought of was staying positive. Now that is something I have struggled with for a long time lol. I would describe myself as a "glass half empty" kind of person.
Being a SC2 player, staying positive is a challenge for all of us. When you lose a game, I'm sure most people would say they get mad or frustrated. I tend to think that society has made us that way. Losing = bad, winning = good. From what I've read and from what I've experienced, when you play SC2, you need to teach yourself that you will lose and when you do it's okay because you can learn from it. As someone who has recently started trying to adapt this concept, I've quickly learned that that isn't easy...at all lol.
Outside of SC2, there are a lot of factors that make it hard for me to stay positive. It's almost as if I've dug a big hole of negativity and I have to climb out of it now lol. So, I've developed a few techniques that I've been using to help me. The idea, just like constantly making probes, is to make it second nature for ourselves. I put sticky notes all around my monitor reminding me to build probes and make pylons but I also have some reminding me to stay positive and that I can learn from every defeat. I leave myself notes around the house reminding me to be positive. Tomorrow I plan on putting some in my car since I just thought of it lol. I'm trying to associate putting shoes on with putting on a positive attitude so whenever I leave to go somewhere I know to spread positivity. It's all basically to train myself to constantly stay positive.
So in the comments, let us know some ways you stay positive or how you deal with negativity.
