This community segmentation will give birth to a certain question.
Will we ever stop bothering visiting tl.net only for the flavor threads? Whatever it is you people want to see there, certain tv series threads, sports, general discussion subforum, tl mafia, korean music, anime thread, you name it.
My guess, is that yes, eventually liquiddota will surpass tl.net simply because of the vastly superior dota2 crowd, that seems to be getting bigger by the day btw.
We can start recreating our favorite threads over here and make this our new home and not just an offshoot of tl.net. No one likes having two separate tabs open when we can have one anyway.
So go ahead and create a Game of Thrones thread for starters, let's see if we can make this happen.

if they would just link the general section of TL with LD / LH I don't think I'd ever go back to TL tbh

User count doesn't actually seem to be growing much ATM.
~1300 active users was about on par at site launch, and TI qualifier games weren't actually airing at that time. If it weren't for initial launch novelty or TI hype, user count would probably be below 4 digits.

If we created a Game of Thrones(TV non book) thread and a Walking Dead thread I doubt I would ever go to tl.net except to check an occasional WCS result which I could just as easily do through liquipedia.

Hmm shit I miss the automated ban list...

Agree with if they link GD/Other Games I won't visit tlnet again, I'll be all liquiddota for tl related sites. That and liquidpedia.

This should be a bannable offense.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I rarely visit TL.net now that LD has launched, and integrating those threads so we can access them here would make it much more convenient.

already stopped visiting main tl pretty much even tho its sad like everytime i was bored i skimmed through tl looking for something interesting now i dont

I actually just logged in here, been browsing TL and posting there. To be honest, even though most of the old TL users are here, it's just not the same community. I don't see myself removing TL from my browser activities....until they link the community thread, blogs and other games section, at least (and the Sports thread, Soccer World Cup almost upon us).
Gotta admit though, LiquidDota looks just so much better than TL, what with smooth design, responsiveness, awesome avatars and team icons and a better even and calendar sidebar.

I'm so used to just typing in "tea" in the url and going straight to TL, but i get there and remember I need to come to LD instead now...

Only reason I've been to TL since was because I started typing TL out of habit...
I'm sure they'll work on linking the general/community shit between the 3 boards.

If only they'd make a calendar/stream app, Steam-style, with links to LR threads on TL/here.

Could you expand a bit on that? I'm trying to improve my programming skills and that does sound like an interesting project!

I don't go much to TL.net now. I mostly posted in TL+ and occasional LR threads, but with this page my sc2 passion took another blow.

What I mean is to have essentially the right bar of this website as a standalone app, which opens a stream viewer when you click on the stream name, or a browser window when you click on the LR link (could be the default browser, or the app's own browser). Of course it should have the Starcraft stream as well.
Bonus points if it can run minimized in the system tray and pop-up events that the user selected from the calendar when the time comes. Well, one can dream

I'm kind of sad about it but I almost never have teamliquid.net open anymore... it has been a long time that I haven't had that tab open while I was on the computer but I'm all for turning this into a permanent place to stay if we can start recreating all of the favourite threads from TL here.
|
I think recreating all the favourite threads is hard for me to stomach =/ I still visit TL.net for things like KMD and what not nowadays, the General forums is good for finding out important events around the world with various users from different countries, even some in that country itself posting their views or what not.
Having that kind of community just cut off abruptly and trying to rebuild a similar community will take a long time, and I am unsure if we can ever go back to what it was before.
I just hope the ability to share general forums will come soon once its here, there will basically be no reason for me to visit TL.net anymore as I do not play SC2/BW
I will miss whoever's still at TL and not in LD. There's plenty of users at TL that are fun and good to read.

It would be nice if we'd get an official response about linking these subforums with this site. If not we should start recreating the old threads asap.

Feedback
As mentioned I have read your feedback and I also can see that there is a lot of dissatisfaction. A midst all this there is a lot of useful feedback that we take very seriously. The main point that we saw kept coming back is the sharing of community forums across sites. Previously we have been on the fence about this, in part due to technical difficulties, and after reading your feedback we're going to make it a priority to have shared community forums across all sites.
The second main complaint was that it was so convenient to have a calendar supporting multiple esports. This is something I have been thinking about a lot since yesterday. It's really nothing more than just a thought right now but in the future I would like to try and build an in depth calendar that covers the calendar inputs from our sites that everyone would be able to customize it as they wish. It's just an idea for now, but I'm hoping to make it a reality some day.

Someday maybe in the near or far future, some mod is going to have the 'crazy innovated idea' that moving all the different community sites into one will be a great way to build bonds across diverse communities. They'll put something like filter bars to make it so that if a dota person doesn't want to see the league threads they don't have to.
I'm just waiting for that moment.

Such is the circle of life.
|
I started following comp dota outside of TI because it was present on the main TL. I will continue to visit both pages, but I like that the content is separate. I think a model like ESPN has is probably the best. The biggest headlines from disparate sports are included on the main page, while in-depth content for each specific sport has it's own page. Just my 2c.
|
Well, I hope that the shared community forums initiative actually comes to fruition. If it doesn't then I'd rather that they just add the equivalent sections to this site and let us grow our own community that's separate from the Mother Site.
