With their defeat today in the Acer Teamstory Cup by the Yoe Flash Wolves (3-5 loss), Acer's win streak in the Acer Teamstory Cup finally comes to an end. A streak that began after their defeat against Axiom in the opening match in season 2 on September 9, 2013, Acer has since then accrued a 85-34 map record over this period (70.59% win-rate), with 5 all kills recorded between 4 different players (Innovation, MMA, Scarlett and Bly), as well as taking 1st place in ATC Season 2 in dominating fashion.
How was Acer so successful? The team enjoyed a strong combination of relative depth and star power, and all kill format with the ace revive bolstered Acer's existing advantages. Acer's foreign Zerg lineup of Scarlett, Nerchio and Bly ranked among the top foreign lineups on any team, capable of taking down top Koreans and sniping opponent aces. Alone the three of them would have comprised a tough lineup to face, swarming opponents with endless waves of not-free units.
Then you had two of the most successful teamleague players in SC2 history in Innovation and MMA. Innovation, the only winner of the Teamleague Triple Crown (winning Proleague, GSTL, and ATC), and MMA, one of the few 3-time GSTL champions. For Innovation, teamleagues were where he arguably found the most success in his storied career, where he displayed a clutch factor that was sadly not as apparent in his individual tournament runs. For MMA, his rise began in the GSTL teamleague back in 2011, where he led Slayers to consecutive GSTL titles as the ace. For both Terrans, teamleagues were second nature to them, an arena where they excelled.
