To be honest I read the article because I was fascinated about the psychological problems the girl must've gone through rather than to simply read about the parents etc.

the parents should be hanged. the pedo should be castrated.

U know I actually value curiosity and informing myself, yes this is a sad fucked up story, but why shouldn't I read it or share. Does it have to be all candy and roses my whole life, should I ignore all the suffering people in third world countries, stories of rape and abuses, wars, countries destroyed by politics and corruption and instead read the latest good american story

Valuing curiosity, in this instance, is just an excuse for wanting to peak over the fence at the fucked up neighbors.
I'm sorry you're blind to any ground between candy and roses and this sort of thing. Of course we should be informed on wars, corruption and mass suffering, as they affect a lot of people and may be prevented. Instead, these isolated sick crimes are reported more for hits from bored voyeurs/shock seekers than anyone else. Sick, unusual crimes get way more coverage than stories about the socially relevant issues you list. You claim you want to be 'informed' and yet fixate on the more shocking stuff that interests you. If only more mundane suffering had the same allure.

Please, please take all those involved in that story out back and shoot them, without any further questions asked.

It was a long read but couldn't stop reading as it was so interesting and heart wrenching. Glad to see she is doing well now and is surrounded by people who love her and care about her and want her to be a part of their lives. It's just a reminder that no one should ever give up on their dreams. When she first went to the hospital after being rescued, doctors expected her body to shut down but her heart kept beating...this girl had an undeniable will to survive despite her circumstances and nothing else in life can ever come close to the pain and suffering and fear she experienced as a child. Stories of heroes and people who have faced adversity frequently come up in the news, but rarely in life do you ever see such a strong person who makes other people's stories pale in comparison, and Lauren's story is exactly that.
