Do you really exist ? Is existence a presence, or the acknowledgement of yourself? Like the germs on the top of a surface of, you are. To a "how are you?" You respond; "I am". But what are you?
•••
Are you the presence in an existence, or an existence in the pretense of the presence of life ? At the end of the night, the end of your journey, will you be, or will you have been?
We are living. Not existing. To a "how are you?" We think; "how are we?" But we are not. We live. Like the essence of the air, we exist, but we don't exist until we are acknowledged, until we are seen. Does this make us merely a presence?
; Will you stop existing after we say our farewells?
After no longer being present to me.
or will I? •••

Sadly, acknowledgement of self is unnecessary to exist, as I have witnessed firsthand with my aunt's Alzheimer's.
I enjoy the concept of separate reality-bubbles, in which only the observer and the bubble of her perception exist, but that area of philosophy is too solipsistic for my liking. It's hard to think of everything outside your reality-bubble as being subject to Schrodinger's Cat uncertainties, so you have to have faith that your preferred result will be given to you, that the street down the block that you can't directly perceive at this moment does exist independently of your reality-bubble.
As for us, we are the empty presence encompassed in life by a dual nature, making us triple-formed in essence.
|
I mean to be acknowledged by others, is to exist. Not to acknowledge yourself. The reality we perceive as real is only a fraction of what others perceive. In that sense, we all do live within other realities.
|
But has that street really existed before you not knowing it's presence ? To your reality, no.
I just met a girl at work a week ago, she was all smiles and it was fun getting to know her. We literally have been working together for over 6 months and I only say her that day. I thought to myself: "it's funny that she's been here all this time, but she only truly were a part of my life once I met her" which is kind of why I wrote this. Things don't really exist to you until you acknowledge their presence.

how do you know he wouldn't. being a only present in a fraction of the total reality you can't possibly know with any degree of certainity

You can't possibly disagree either. How you see reality is not how I presented it, but its not wrong .
|
Everyone here should go read the Discourse on Method by Descartes haha.

"How do you reality is not how I presented it?" i dont even know what this means so i am assuming you are behind contradictory

I said, you can't tell if I'm right or not. ... Don't start replying if you don't know what you're talking about.

WHO ARE YOU? I eat pizza, therefore you are my food.

Nevermind. I have a habit of pressing the post button before thinking, unfortunately.

Today I wondered what the major accomplishments of deep metaphysical philosophy has been in the modern world, and I guessed to myself that its probably all been a very big waste of time that is just fun to think about.
If you want the best theory of them all, read about the Monadology from Leibnitz (co-inventor of Calculus).
Edit: Found the quote online I heard in philosophy class:
And, in perhaps the wittiest and most biting rhetorical question asked of Leibniz, Voltaire gibes, “Can you really believe that a drop of urine is an infinity of monads, and that each of these has ideas, however obscure, of the universe as a whole?” (Oeuvres complètes, Vol. 22, p. 434)
source: Leibniz Page
Then there are those who believe you can reach "enlightenment" by repeatedly asking "who am I" while you sit in deep silence. Aah well. Too busy working to do any of that...and playing hearthstone
edit: Just want to say I love my goliath picture. Having machine guns for arms is the best!!!

You guys, I didn't expect such a sick topic to rise all from my bullshit post, I love you all.

I'd like to think of religion as a way people deal with what they're afraid of, and what they can't do anything about. Death, unexpected events, the unknown. It's the same way some people deal it with other things, drugs, alcohol, etc. Wouldn't call that a major accomplishment at all. I think philosophy just comes from when people start being more self aware, rather than thinking "Eat, work, sleep, eat, work sleep, family, fun, eat, work, sleep" cycle, you know?

But has that street really existed before you not knowing it's presence ? To your reality, no.
maybe the specific details of the road, but it still exists independent of my knowledge of it and it can still have an effect on me so yes to my reality it exists
as an example if i am a general and i don't know this bridge exists and the enemy uses it to flank my forces to my reality that bridge sure as hell existed even though i had no idea about its existence. it may not be until hours or days or weeks later that i learn about that bridge. still existed to my reality.
