I'll shamelessly borrow this idea from a thread I read a while back, but as opposed to that guy, I'll actually follow through. What the fuck, man?
So here she blows:
I want to expand my musical horizon, so I'd love to listen to some of your album recommendations.
The guidlelines are:
1. Only three recommendations a day, only one per post. Please abide by this, or else it gets messy. 2. I choose one of the three recommendations and write a quick review. 3. Please use at least semi-serious recommendations. If the first three guys all post Justin Beaver albums, I still won't listen to them 4. If you could tell me why you chose the album, even better
My taste in music is pretty simple so far. I love rock, I appreciate classical music, I love solo piano stuff, I dig Classic Rock when I'm stoned, I love Red Hot Chili Peppers on road trips, I love Metal to work out to and I love electric stuff to bang to. The only rap / hip hop / blues / other negro music I listen to is live Jazz I listen to once a week at a local pub. Instrumental Jazz is cool, vocal Jazz turns me off. I can't stand most techno or electric stuff in general, and I loathe almost every rap song I've ever listened to. That doesn't mean I won't listen to your recommendations out of these genres.
Cheers bitches!
Number 1, October 15th: In The Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson My thoughts:
Number 2, October 15th: JJ Cale - Naturally
My thoughts:
Number 3, October 16th: Red Forest by If These Trees Could Talk
First album of a major influence of guys like Eric Clapton, one of my favourite if not my favourite album of all time. chill country/blues/rock with jazzy/funky touches.
Dr Feelgood - Down by the Jetty
Best fucking band ever. Dirty blues rock, smells of sweat and bad whiskey. Killer Harmonica.
Okay okay so my top recommendation is TesseracT - 'Of Matter'. Good band, good album. Very prog metal and the new vocalist is almost as good as Dan Tompkins.
Let's make it two albums today, 'Naturally' first, Crimson later. At a glance, the latter seems to be a bit more trippy, so I'll enjoy that later tonight under the influence.
I didn't follow through simply because I didn't have the time. I at least got through a few days. I think the guy right before me only got through one day. >.> If I find time I might bring the thread back but I don't know if I will yet.
For piano albums I'll suggest one of the suggestions I got in my thread. Ludovico Einaudi. I just loaded up his "In a Time Lapse" album on Spotify and it's really good so far.
EDIT: As I listen to it, it's not necessarily a piano album but it's more of an instrumental album. Mostly piano/strings with some electronic backing. I want to say the first album I listened to was "Islands," and it was mostly piano.

He's asking for albums, so it should be TesseracT - Altered State (pretty good recommendation btw)
Hope this is ok because I wanna recommend 2 short albums (both together make up for 40 minutes), both by Cloudkicker. A New Heavenly Body, progressive metal, and Let Yourself be Huge, more chill and ambient. Both are instrumental. Recommending this really underground but great artist (it's all done by one guy), really love his compositions.
A New Heavenly Body (couldn't find whole album in one video, only the separated songs):
Hawthorne Heights - The Silence in Black and White
Once you get past the fame whoring generic screemo songs the 'filler' songs are stupidly good. The album just captures a mood so well. 'Screenwriting an Apology' is easily my favorite of the album.

Haha I thought of this too.
Although I think the best rap album for people who don't like rap is The Heist - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, although most hip hop fans don't like it.

this is good for non-convectional hip-hop listeners.
I don't know what you mean by three recommendations per day. Do you cut replies off after three from anyone? Three per person? You choose three per day?
Try Ambientium - Fractal Philosophy
One of my favorite albums that I listened to in 2011. The second track literally gave me an attack of euphoria one night when I listened to it. Genre is psybient or electronica.
Ocean Songs is a post-rock album from 1997, all instrumental, mainly fiddle, drums and guitar.
For me it took a while to get into the album and start liking it. The sound stays quite similar throughout the album and at least I had hard time even distinguishing the songs at first. However, once you get comfortable with the sound, you start appreciating the wonderful flow and feel of the album. The songs change from calm to stormy and back in slowly adjusting patterns and somehow manage to invoke the feeling of tidal waves, whirlpools and drifts. The album really manages to sound like an ocean.
Jim White is probably my favourite drummer and Warren Ellis (of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) is amazing on violin too.
I don't know if this is exactly an album for a day, it probably needs certain circumstances to catch the mood and to appreciate, but it's certainly worth a try. Personally I had to leave it playing on the background for a while before the songs slowly 'creeped' in and started making sense. Now it's one of my favourite albums ever.
The album definitely works best when you listen it all the way through, but I guess some of the longer songs are quite good on their own too.
Edit: Hmm, how is the 'only three recommendations a day' supposed to go? My apologies if I breached some limitation there. My initial thought it was three per poster.
i'm assuming ya'll gonna get ignored for not following the rules. too many people eager to throw music at a person, not so eager to swallow foreign suggestions themselves.
i'm curious to see if OP will actually follow through. that other thread was a disappointment. this kind of thing might work better as a trading of suggestions than a 1 way street.
have fun with ITCOTKC, OP. tis a fun one. cept for moonchild. fuck that song.

pure genius
Yeah, what are talking about? Moonchild is great, the first 2 and half minutes are amazing and then the rest is just like... I dunno, but it's so great.
Edit: In response to above. In the Court of the Crimson King is my all time favourite album, but I've only listened to Red once or twice I think. I guess I better give it another shot, especially considering In the Court of the Crimson King was not love at first sight.
On October 17 2013 10:15 Fishgle wrote: oh yea i totally agree Red is the best. I wish Starless would go on for even longer though. 30 minutes of tense build-up would be amazing.
one of fripp's finest moments without a doubt. epic and minimalist all at once
i'll try moonchild again, but i really don't get it.
i wouldn't worry too much about it, really
edit: I'm rockin' some Red right now, fucking genius. the bass on this album!
Gavin Harrison, Bill Rieflin, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Mel Collins, Jakko Jakszyk and Fripp
i can't find anything about a new album, but that's the new line-up at least. it was announced a couple weeks ago. I just assumed there'd be a new album.
This is my favorite movie soundtrack of all time. You said you don't really like electronic music but maybe this will be an exception. Just kick back, grab a whiskey and enjoy.
