I ask because I'll be in Japan with my gf (Japanese) for next valentines. It would feel kinda weird receiving something but not giving anything lol. On Valentines Day the girl will give the guy a gift and on White day the guy gets the girl a gift. I guess traditionally it is mostly chocolate, but I hate chocolate so I receive and give out other things.

I have put fake birthday on Facebook to see who actually gives a shit and who just clicks on "hey, it's X's birthday, write him in the wall". The results are not very encouraging for the society, I cann tell you that. Anyway, this is one of the things I always had a gripe about with my mother (not that the list really needs help) because I started ignoring all these asburd date-related celebrations and both of my parents went nuts when I didn't mention it's their birthday, because, you know, it is so important, because ... well.. because everybody things so and so it has to be right! On the other hand, public holidays are great: free time - earlier from school, now from work. And Christmas are really awesome, almost everyone stays at home on Christmas (to the level that it gets really, really creepy in the streets after 6 pm, its' like an apocalypse just happened and everyone died), so being a Christmas ignorer can bring you some nice things, such as very cheap plane tickets or the ability to see otherwise crowded places completely deserted. (But also bad things, such as completely halted public transport.)

No one even bothers to attempt to associate any legitimate historical relevance to what happens once that Friday rolls around. So the earliest possible time companies felt they could get away with pushing Christmas sales down your throat is immediately after Thanksgiving ended Of course, these days the sales are starting before thanksgiving haha. I think Black Friday is a great day/weekend/week because I can just sit at my house and buy stuff online for great prices for myself ;D
