So I guess rather than call this a blog, I should be calling this a brag. This upcoming weekend the 90th anniversary of the famed race will be taking place, and I am going to be right there with the best (metaphorical) seats in the house.
I have a menial shit job where I won't be doing much of anything but telling people not to kill themselves, but I'll be doing it in the pits. I spent all of today next to the Toyota team, probably do the same tomorrow, and then I have a hell of a weird schedule for the actual race day(s) and I have no idea where they will be sticking me. All I know is that I'm fucking stoked.
Oh, and as an aside, I have been living in le mans for about 14 months, but last year I was out of town or out of the country for literally every event. so today I got home after working at the track, and lo and behold, despite the kilometers that seperate me from the course, I could actually still hear, if faintly, the sounds of the revving engines. I'm crawling in my own skin with giddy excitement for this weekend, even though it means missing most of HSC T-T (gogo TL)
So any one else going or going to be watching the race?

I haven't kept up with racing much since college (5 years ago now!) but reading this reminded me of it. I should tune in. Le Mans is always great. Enjoy the job!

For those of you who don't recognize it... you might recognize it by it's shorter name: Les Mans. It's in gran turismo! (I never finished it, with it being 24 hours long)

It's like the (by far) biggest and most prestigious 24h race there is. The chances that you don't know it, if your at least a tiny bit into racing are damn near 0... It's, among others, the place where the Ford GT made its name.

I thankfully was able to wait until save mode existed to do it in GT5

So as said it is a ridiculous endurance race that lasts 24 hours. It actually spawned a series of races in the US called the "Le Mans series" where they use the same ruleset and race at a few different tracks (i would say most famously in the US is Sebring) the other cool thing is you get the high end f1 style cars running alongside GTEs (can't say I know too much about the classification but I was talking with one of the guys from Aston Martin today and that's how he referred to them, I guess they are limited at 8 cylinder engines, and I am sure a bunch of other rules) basically its the cars you break hard to turn running alongside the cars that wont turn at all unless you're going at least 90 km/h :D
I am sure you'll be able to catch some of it on tv in the US. It starts at 3 here saturday and runs clear through to 3 sunday, so 9 am EST, 6 am PST Saturday morning, then all throughout the next 24 hours. maybe I'll be in one of the pit shots

I really hate you at this moment.
Been following the qualifiers since yesterday evening and am stoked for the actual race on saturday/sunday.
For the people that don't know it: There are a lot of cars racing at the same time but they are not only competing for the overall standing but also for the standing in their own classes of which there are 5 if I'm correct. Each team consist of 3 drivers who have to alternate behind the steering-wheel.
As some of the high end factory teams are quite a bit faster as the private teams from the lower classes you have a lot of action and cars overtaking each other. Especially around 3 am when drivers are not as sharp as they were at the beginning of the race you can expect either dull hours of cars just trying to keep their positions or big crashes caused by fatigue.
All in all a great event with a lot of the most talented drivers this world has to offer. A lot of professional drivers from all over the world form temporarily teams to participate in this race.
