It is time for your weekly dose of photography, whether you understand it or not! :D

Well rest assured, this week we're in for some black and white images.

This week I've been walking around my neighborhood to take pictrues of random things I stumble upon.
I chose to take my old speed graphic 4x5' camera:

Its a used large format camera that I bought after getting paid for a big wedding.
It has 135mm lens with a max aperture of f:4.7.
The 4x5 inch format is awesome. The large format of the film and the lenses for large fromat cameras are so great, you get super detailled images and maximum control over your images. (Once mastered obviously.)
You also need light meter since those cameras dont have a built in cell.

How does it work?

You buy a box of sheets, each sheet records one image.

You then have to load a holder wich can contain up to two of those sheets.

You load the holder in the camera when you are ready to shoot and *bam* you take you shot.

So after I few test shots I finally packed to go outside.

I took a pic of some stange building.

After a while I was close to the observatory of Uccle wich is close to my place. They had an open doors day.
The observatory houses the royal institute of meteorology. Its usually closed to the public so it was a nice opportunity to take some shots of the place that inspire Hergé for his album:

So I took some pictrues and went home.

It was time to start processing the images.
4x5 film is not the most standard format. You can still find plenty of it but the usual dav tank wont fit it. Some guy in London manufactured a modded version of a popular tank to fit 4x5 sheets:

It's called Mod54.
I had never tested it and it works really good.
Super easy to load and to use.

So this is what my kitchen looked after processing:

And as allways when you're done, you have to clean up : (

Then it was time for scanning and retouching.

i really love your brick observatory and that tower near the end. you take nice photos, and you have good taste in finding cool objects to shoot!

so do you just shoot weddings and other events for a living or what??

Looks like 1950s in HD. It's cool but I just don't find the pictures very interesting. Might just be me but unless it's a really cool shaped building, it's not a building exciting enough to take a picture of.

I like these, though I suggest making it maybe 1 subject matter per blog and putting a bunch of extra photos in spoilers, while keeping the best 3 or so out of them and centered.

Actually it's more like 1930 in HD :D. Check out Walker Evans.
He was using an even larger camera. He defined so many things in the way photography can work. He is one of the greatest photographers that ever existed.
I understand that The images arent super duper intresting. It's completely normal since my focus for now is trying to master my camera. And I'm more a portrait guy so it's kind of a stretch for me as I'm trying to expand my horizon.

Oh nice idea I haven't thought of that. Improvements incoming for week 2!
