Anyway, so basically, in 3rd grade, I was practically the only person at my school who played Halo. As we approached 8th, that number began rising dramatically. Then, I met my best friend, whom we shall name Jake. Jake and I bonded through Halo.
I was really busy grinding mass amounts of games so I could have a large store of games to analyze, and improve, which wasn't very fun, but then I decided to take some time out to teach Jake the game, and it really was quite fun. Jake improved astoundingly fast. Then I decided to quit the game for a while due to girls, and when I came back, Jake was extremely good.
Jake learned the game through playing online though, so naturally playing selfish and statwhoring was a huge part of it. I didn't give a crap about stats, I just wanted to win. I think you can see where this is going.
Anyway, Jake and I got really close, and there was a point where I was looking for teammates to play Gamebattles with, but his individual, self-centered statwhoring style conflicted with the way my team ran, so I stopped playing competitively with him, and only played with him when I was dicking around.
I quit Halo shortly after to pursue Starcraft. During this time, Jake and I got pretty close with this guy that Jake knew through wrestling - call him Albert. I actually still played a bit of Halo at this time, since that was all Jake did, and Albert wanted to play too, so we took the time out to teach him the game.
I was VERY encouraging to Albert. I kindly pointed out his mistakes, how to improve and things like that, I taught him sick strats, thumbstick control, angles, weapon usage, etc, and every time he died, I'd tell him what he could do to avoid that happening again. It was a very "you-can-do-it" sort of thing.
Anyway, three years pass, and I have since given up competitive gaming. But I still do play for fun. Jake and Albert have moved on to League of Legends now.
I decided to join them. Naturally, as the newcomer, I'd be kind of bad. Combine that with a 20fps laptop at school and not a lot of knowledge about the game - you'd expect me to be bad.
What I don't like about Albert though is the way he treats me. It's always
"What the fuck are you doing?"
"Dude, Ray, you fucking suck"
"Why did you pick ADC? Why didn't you just give Jake ADC?"
[Naturally Jake is a boss at everything <3]
"Dude you're fucking terrible"
I realized that I don't have to keep people like this in my life, so I removed him from everything because he'd just annoy me later on.
But still, it's quite frustrating; someone I treated with such care and nurturing treats me like this when the roles are reversed?
People.
Luckily, TeamLiquid is awesome <3
