Advice/Suggestions for Stream

So I've recently been streaming my masters protoss games on ladder, which works out great because it's great motivation to play and play well. Obviously as a new streamer you're going to have a difficult time getting viewers, but since I am not an active stream viewer myself, I'm not sure what people look for in streams, where they look for streams, how to get noticed.

So far, I have figured a few ways to improve the popularity of my stream:
  • Advertise.
  • Become GM - I figure if you're a GM then people will be more likely to watch your stream.
  • Have some sort of hook or reason to view your stream over others - which is why people watch Incontrol or Maximus Black, they have a personality people are interested in.

That's all I could come up with. So any suggestions/advice I'd be happy to hear. So far my hook is that I commentate and offer free advice/help to any protoss player who watches the stream and messages me on b.net.

Really, I think this late in the game your best bet is just to stream often. You could try some sort of gimmick like funding a showmatch out of your own pocket and hosting it on your stream, or you could post some good results at a tournament and get noticed that way.

The main thing would be to interact with any viewers you have. Commentary is great, but even just talking in the chat is good. Ask them if they want music on for a game or 2, want to go over a replay of a game you just played, want to see a certain build, etc.

Ideally you want to get the people who tune in to "favourite" your stream here on TL since you aren't featured. It helps get repeat viewers that may get lost in the sea of streams that are on here. Getting to GM would help a lot too

Does anyone think having a camera online would be beneficial? I have one but I didn't bother to set it up because I don't think people really care, but I notice a lot (if not all) popular streamers have one.

if your stream if focused on your personality, your commentating, and basically you, talking, rather than playing, then i think it'd be a good idea. you might be able to keep some viewers coming back because they recognize you, the way you talk, your analysis, your views, and having a face to show them lets them associate you with all ofthat.

Stream consistently and stream often. The more I see you streaming then the better likelihood of me watching. If you're someone that just comes and goes off randomly then whenever I go on Twitch at X time then I expect you to be streaming at that time or that day.

That's just for me though.

Make sure you don't advertise too much, it can make you look desperate for viewers and turn people off.

just play more often, as a bw streamer that's all I did, and eventually you'll slowly increase your viewers be it from people coming back and just new people coming through randomly. I check the chat after everygame to see if there's discussion, I've even played some games w/ my viewers so that might help you. gl man

Thanks for all the advice. Seems like consistency of streaming is the most important thing, which makes sense.
