Hello everyone, I'm making this in the hope that some people could help out.
Recently I've been listening to more ambient music than usual, I swap between genres a lot and I guess that is what I'm listening to now.
By ambient music I mean music that doesn't have words but makes you feel something, I'll post examples of my favourite ones right now, most of them are from films/animes/kickass artists.

Basically, does anyone know any more music like this?

1. In A House In A Heartbeat - 28 Days Later soundtrack
+ Show Spoiler +

I love this song, I've loved it ever since I watched the film.

2. Dante - The Full Metal Alchemist soundtrack
+ Show Spoiler +

This anime had some of the best music I had ever heard in an anime, the music still fills me with emotion when I listen, and I recognize every song.

3. Tsuisou - The Full Metal Alchemist soundtrack
+ Show Spoiler +

Same as before, amazing song.

4. Grief and Sorrow - Naruto soundtrack
+ Show Spoiler +

Brilliant song, it makes me horribly sad when I hear it.+ Show Spoiler +
Sorry for the bad quality

5. Dead Reckoning - Clint Mansell
+ Show Spoiler +

Makes me feel awesome, the slow build up is incredible, not overly epic like some groups are.

6. Comptine D'un Autre Ete (Couldn't be bothered with the acute, sorry french people) - Amelie soundtrack
+ Show Spoiler +

Amelie has one of the best soundtracks of any film, Yann Tiersen is simply unbelievable and this song is possibly the best from the film.

7. La Valse d'Amelie (Apologies again frenchmen) - Amelie soundtrack
+ Show Spoiler +

Like the above, Tiersen is just too good.

8. Wildcat - Ratatat
+ Show Spoiler +

I came across this song several months ago and have since started using it whenever I stream SC2, I love listening to it because it feels so unique.

9. The sad theme tune from Fairy Tail (Don't know the actual name)
+ Show Spoiler +

I love Fairy Tail, I really do, and this song is just a brilliant mix of emotion and inspiration, when I hear it I somehow both feel happy and sad

10. Tsuioku Mezameru Tamashii - Fairy Tail soundtrack
+ Show Spoiler +

A sad moment from Fairy Tail accompanied by an incredibly beautiful piece, Fairy Tail really has quite an amazing soundtrack

11. The Place I Called Home - Naruto Shippuden
+ Show Spoiler +

The most emotional song in Shippuden in my opinion, I don't feel Shippuden quite has the same level of music as Naruto but there are a few notable songs there.

12. Ghostwriter - RJD2
+ Show Spoiler +

It's RJD2, that's about all that really needs to be said here

13. Finally Moving - Pretty Lights
+ Show Spoiler +

It saddens me when people say Pretty Lights copied Avicii with this amazing song because it's just so good, oh and the fact this song was made several years before Avicii made Levels

14. Paradise Circus - Massive Attack
+ Show Spoiler +

Massive Attack have some incredible songs and this one is no exception, simple, beautiful.

15. Stand Up - Prodigy
+ Show Spoiler +

Ahh Kickass you silly, silly film. I'm glad you brought this to my attention as it's just such a feelgood tune.

16. The theme tune to Deadman Wonderland
+ Show Spoiler +

Oh wow, Deadman Wonderland, you have such a good theme tune! It feels so tense when you listen to it and it matches the show brilliantly.

Now, does anyone know any music similar to any of these songs? I would be so grateful if you guys could help me out here, I'm dying for more music!

And so ends my first blog.

Edit: Spoilered Youtube vids.

I'm going to dump a bunch of my ambient-ish soundtrack/artist names. Maybe some will be to your liking.

Vas, Irfan, Stellamara, Aion has ambient pieces (get the gamerip, not the soundtrack, night and day difference in content), Towards the Terra/Fairytail/Hellgirl (same artist, they have some ambient pieces), Stalker (movie), Midnight Odyssey has a few good ambient pieces (as do a lot of BM bands actually, but the list is too long), Divine Divinity, Eleni Karaindrou, WoW's mop expansion has some nice asian themed ambient stuff in it, Senmuth, Sephiroth, A Spellforce 2 gamerip will yield some very good material, and that is all my attention span can get for the moment.

I have like 1.5tb+ of music, so there's given to be a lot I've missed.

/edit

Oh, thank you for reminding. Yes, of course 2 steps from hell is God's gift to music and I am so amazingly happy that every video production ever made uses an abundance of the exact same trailer music cues. It adds so much to the drab and barren wasteland that is music choices for any given user video production oh wait

Thank you, you are a legend, a list of names is exactly what I need, I can just go through one by one as I feel, thank you!

Your music library makes me feel tiny, I only have 100GB

Off the top of my head: Carbon Based Lifeforms, Tim Hecker, Biosphere, Brian Eno, Steve Roach, Stars of the Lid, Deaf Center, The Dead Texan, Fennesz, Gas (Wolfgang Voigt), Klaus Schulze, Ulver (later albums), Troum, William Basinski (very minimal).

Some kickass examples:

Just a tip: "music that doesn't have words but makes you feel something" would be instrumental music. This is ambient music:

In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

Pretty sure these are soundtracks, not ambient music. -_-

1/5 learn to genre-nazi.

If you want some actual ambient, I recommend Carbon Based Lifeforms (probably my favourite ambient artists), Clubroot (post-dubstep, very chill music), Swarms (same as previous), Phaeleh (same as previous).

In terms of "music that doesn't have words but makes you feel something", I know quite a few amazing instrumentals that I will post below, but I would also HIGHLY recommend Chinese one-man project Vergissmeinnicht, playing an absolutely gorgeous style of dark folk / depressive folk, centered around acoustic guitar.

+ Show Spoiler +

Also, this is quite possibly one of the most amazing ambient songs I've ever heard:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OMFiqNA6Ag

It is by Michael Shrive and Klaus Schulze off the album Transfer Station Blue.

Thanks, I was choosing between instrumentals and ambient, I chose ambient because of songs like Dante which have singing, but still no real words!

I did give four examples which weren't soundtracks by the way So soundtrack wouldn't have covered it.

Also, In Flames and Metallica? Seems an odd choice for the examples I gave but then again I haven't heard the songs you linked so maybe they fit!

I'm actually really happy someone else uses the genre post-dubstep to describe music! You're the first I've seen apart from myself. If Clubroot and swarms are anything like Phaeleh then I will love them, Phaelah is a beast (In The Twilight MY GOD) and I probably should have put a song or two in the OP, I take it you know Synchro as well then?

The Floyd song is amazing, thank you. Apparently it's on The Division Bell, my favourite floyd album, so I dunno how I missed it! I probably should have put Atom Heart Mother in the OP.

Thanks all who are helping, you are amazing!

Sunshine theme song, more Yann Tiersen soundtracks, Lord of the Rings soundtrack, and just classical music seems to be up your alley. Because I have no idea about classical music I just listen to the Piano playlists off Spotify 'Essential Classics' app.

I've got the sunshine theme song, should have mentioned :D LoTR I feel is a little overhyped and whilst being great isn't quite my thing to listen to. I'll check out spotify, thanks!

Also, a few more videos to add:

Summer Dreams - Skream

In The Twilight - Phaelah

A2 Splinter In My Soul - The Others

Atom Heart Mother - Pink Floyd

Thanks again to all who are helping!

Metal is, surprisingly to those out of the loop, one of the go-to places for emotion, passion and talent. That couple of Metallica instrumentals from the 80s are bloody brilliant in terms of song structure and the way they sound; the In Flames instrumentals serve as beautiful interludes throughout their amazing early albums (which if you've not heard, they're filled to the brim with folk-ish melodies).

Also it turns out my ctrl-c fucking hates me because I copied the wrong link twice.

As I was saying, some very entrancing old school ambient by Michael Shrive and Klaus Schulze...

I understand the passion and emotion that goes into metal and I think people who write it off as just shouting are incredibly close-minded people, I've just never had the chance to fully explore it because I have been delving into other genres for the past year or so.

I listened to The Call of the Ktulu and One of the In Flames songs, I liked both although the Metallica one I found more preferable, the Floyd song you linked is incredible, as to be expected, and carbon based lifeforms are amazing! Thanks to everyone who recommended them.

I'll listen more later tonight, HoTS practice calls!

If you enjoy Call of Ktulu by Metallica, you for sure need to listen to Orion and To Live is to Die.

*Everything here is instrumental, in case it sounds like it might start to have singing at some point. I promise it won't.

Also, have you ever checked out Explosions in the Sky? They are SUPER mellow instrumental "post-rock," i find them to be kind of meh personally, but you might enjoy them, very ambient.

Russian Circles is definitely in my top 20 all time. I fucking love their stuff. Lots of build up, sometimes they build to a progression for a few minutes, then the song goes nuts and they explore all over the place. They have a great sound, and I personally love their songwriting and progressive style.

I saw these guys live at my first concert ever, a Dream Theater show in Denver, CO. They were so sick live, I immediately bought their CD from them and got it signed by all the band members. They're pretty rad dudes and are coming out with their fourth album this spring, so that's cool. I really like how some songs, the guitars aren't the melody, but take on a more rhythm role and the drums take over with a varied melodic style. Really awesome stuff on all their albums. They might be too progressive to be a good ambient listen, but I love them so I have to share Anyway: Scale the Summit:

Also check out Black Clouds and Silver Linings, the special edition of that CD has a Bsides disc, and an instrumentals disc that is just a mix of the main album sans-singing, pretty sick. Especially Count of Tuscany

La Villa Strangiato has LITERALLY the greatest guitar solo (the first one) of all time. No doubt in my mind.

I classify these as more goofy or troll songs that I listen to just because I can throw up the obligatory \m/ and heabang in the car with friends to this stuff:

I am refraining from posting a bunch of instrumental virtuoso-type stuff (eg Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc etc) but it might be worth your time if you don't already know all those guys and if you're into more metal-ish stuff and like instrumental music in general. A band without a singer is generally something I'll explore 99/100 times regardless of their sub-genre.

I will save this for another post/time, but I would also highly recommend you check out some classical music. Maybe you're already into some of that stuff, which is great btw, but maybe not. Gustav Mahler is my favorite. Symphony 7 in E minor - II. "Nachtmusik" Allegro Moderato/Molto Moderato is fucking mind blowing. FUCKING MIND BLOWING lol.

Mark Morgan composed the soundtracks for Fallout 1 and 2 and Planescape: Torment. Good ambient. And of course Brian Eno is big name in ambient music.

this is absolutely the best piece of ambient music i have ever heard in my life:

Burial is a dubstep/garage producer known for his ability to convey a very specific atmosphere (post rave walking through a city late at night), here he remixes massive attack's paradise circus and turns it into an extraordinary 12 minute journey evoking pure sadness and longing.

edit:
oh wow i didn't realize you had the original in your OP. You won't believe what you're hearing when you listen to this remix i promise

Check out BT's albums 'This Binary Universe' and 'If the stars are eternal so are you and I'.

Aphex Twin is another great ambient artist.

Solar Fields is amazing as well. The DJ is the man who wrote the soundtrack for Mirror's edge.
