Please don't fire me, DRG.
I write this blog out of love and reverence.

I knew MVPDongRaeGu was a silly person the first minute I laid eyes on him. I mean, how could anyone not when there are gifs of him on the internet doing stuff like this:
+ Show Spoiler +
What I wasn't prepared for, however, was to find out just exactly how much of an absolute ditz he was (and still is) in my one year tenure as president of his fan club. DRG is somewhat of a conundrum: on one hand, he is a mechanical monster, shooting past 600 APM regularly and is one of the best StarCraft players in the world; on the other hand, he sometimes can't remember which side of his shirt has the team logo on it.
+ Show Spoiler +
Personally, I find his random bouts of ditziness rather endearing and that snickering about DRG antics can be just as fun as cheering for him in major tournaments. So I want to share with all of you, especially non-DRG fans, exactly why it is so hilarious to follow this man.
Thus I'm not writing this blog to bash on DRG; on the contrary, I want to recap some of the more comical things that he has done in the time I've been his fan, and hope that by doing so, will make you want to be his fan, as well. Also, it's pretty amusing to make fun of DRG, BUT I KNOW HE WILL BE A GOOD SPORT ABOUT THIS AND WON'T GET MAD AT ME. :D
For simplicity's sake, I will sort the following ditz-events into two categories: half-ditz and full-ditz.
Half Ditz are simple lapses in judgement that most people might accidentally commit when they are mentally compromised by things like fatigue, too much alcohol or are experiencing a heatstroke (or a real stroke) from being out in the sun for too long.
Full-ditz (full-on-ditziness) are feats of ditziness that can only be achieved by a life-long ditzy person. When performed, a full-ditz action will create a small vacuum around the user that sucks away the the will to think from anyone caught within the vicinity. The pull is so strong that not even logic or reason can escape.
Full-Ditz: Hatch Cancel Hatch
This five minute video is as good as it gets to introducing the mind numbing effects of DRG at full ditz capacity. Here's the thing, we understand why he did what he did. The hatchery was to fool his opponent, elfi, into thinking that it was a normal Zerg expansion timing. He was going to cancel the hatch as soon as the probe was killed and allin on roaches. However, DRG was delayed more than he was expecting to be by elfi's scouting probe, thus popped a late roach warren. By the time his roach warren finished, he had enough to do the roach push without canceling his hatchery. But being at full ditz, he cancels the hatchery as it was near 90% complete!! And instead of just continuing to pump out units off 1 base (since it was already a 1-base allin at that point and expanding would be too late against a 2-base Protoss), DRG puts down...another hatchery. Be in awe, folks. Be in awe!
Half Ditz : Food Poisoning, Skin Rashes, Hives
DongRaeGu famously got food poisoned near the end of 2011 before his semi-finals match with Naniwa at MLG Providence, in which he credits as one of the reason why he was not playing well that day. Around the same time in 2012, he showed up to the GSL Season 5 group nominations with visibly red patches all over his neck, seemingly from a result of profusive scratching. And then a few days ago he tweeted:
박수호 @MVPDongRaeGu
처음이그래며칠뒤엔괜찮아져
박수호 @MVPDongRaeGu
소오르음

박수호 @MVPDongRaeGu
소오르음
Tweet 1: goose bumps
Tweet 2: At first it's like that but several days later, it becomes okay
(translation thanks to Seeker)
Yea that sounds like hives. How is DRG so prone to all these accidents? Does he not know which food he is allergic to? Maybe he should just stick to tofu. lol.
A friend of mine once told me "neo! you need to watch over DRG. The man might fall into a well."
Full-Ditz: Yadong-RaeGu
Perhaps one of the more embarassing stories to have come out of 2012 was DRG's yadong incident (yadong means pornography + Show Spoiler +
야동 is an abbreviation for "야한 동영상", which means "Erotic Videos". It is not in the Korean Dictionary because this is a slang term.

OMG noob mistake! Always empty your Recycle Bin!!
Half Ditz: Late to Signing
This is more of a personal anecdote. At MLG Anaheim, DRG was suppose to be at the signing booth for both Friday and Saturday afternoon. This happened because, at the time, he was wildly popular and was pretty much the uncontested best player in the world. And I know his schedule because I was there to
WHICH was a Good thing, considering he never showed up for the Saturday signing! lol.
MarineKing, who was suppose to be signing along side DRG, showed up both days. Leenock was called in by the MLG staff at the last minute to fill in for DRG. Around half an hour into the signing, I saw DRG snuck in the front door. Must have over slept. lol.
A lot of fans were disappointed that day, but at least DRG made it up to them by signing for fans on Sunday afternoon instead.
FULL-DITZ: Forgetting the Scheduled Matches Completely
During the NASL Season 4, DongRaeGu did not show up for a record of 3 times out of his 7 online matches, citing that he completely ditzed out and forgot about it. It was highly upsetting for a lot of fans, including myself and tommyP, who bought the tickets to NASL4 specifically to see DRG play. Tommy and I have berated DRG many many times over twitter about this issue already and he has apologized. Since then, DRG has not missed a single set <3. Keep it up, DRG, or else!
:O
:D
Half Ditz: Double Tech Buildings
Because two of the same thing are better than one. I really don't know any other pro-gamer who enjoy making double ultralisk caverns and double baneling nests as much as DRG.
FULL-DITZ: DITZ OF THE YEAR 2012 Above Evolution
Ok, I lied to you guys in the last blog. The DRG-Moment-of-the-Year-2012 wasn't him winning MLG or GSL...it actually happened at the Blizzard Cup Heart of the Swarm Invitational in December, the match being DRG vs BaBy. After teching to Hive, DRG made some 30 supplies worth of vipers and about 8 evolution chambers for them to chew on. In a moment of PROFOUND ditziness, DongRaeGu allowed his vipers to CONSUME THE FREAKING EVOLUTION CHAMBER THAT WAS UPGRADING and ended up KILLING the damn thing, cancelling his upgrade. I choked a bit on my own saliva watching that, awestruck by the glory that is DitzRaeGu.
You can watch the game yourself, here: http://www.gomtv.net/gomstage/vod/71573
and be mesmerized by its all consuming power to remove logic from the very fabrics of reality.
2013 Ditz: Hatch Placement
A new year comes with new opportunities to ditz-out for our beloved DRG, and he is a man who jumps head-first at his opportunities. In his first televised event of the year, DongRaeGu manages to place his 3rd hatchery a full hex away from the mineral line, which would eventually become detriment to his mineral income. The funny thing is, he didn't even realize this until we told him on twitter after the match. lol.
Well, I guess DRG is right about one thing: It didn't matter. In fact, he won most of the games in which he ditz'ed out anyway. And as much as I enjoy making fun of DRG, who doesn't, I am reminded every time I watch him play that he is a genuine champion-caliber player who has won IEM, DreamHack, 2x MLG, GSL and countless other accolades.
I hope you all enjoy this read since I had a lot of fun writing it.
If DRG ever reads this, I am sure he would strongly contemplate on firing me immediately...
...but then again,
he would probably just forget within a day.
