Re-posted from the Battle.net forums, where I spend most of my time.

So, with all the negativity in the forums even in the new year, I thought I'd make a change. Here, we debate the most awesome things you can do -or have done- in Starcraft II.

Last update: 1/1/2013

Non-race specific

1) Hearing that awesome noise when Ghosts, High Templar, and Infestors die.

Terran

1) Marine splitting against Banelings.

You see a Professional do it, and you are awed. You practice for hours on end, trying to get it right. You slowly improve, not realizing how well you do until one day you are playing on ladder, it's a few dozen Marines, a handful of Marauders, and few Medivacs against several dozen Zerglings and a dozen Banelings. You split on demand, and as the fight is going on you realize just how awesome you are at splitting and a warm, happy feeling flows through you as you finish the fight and move on to destroy the Zerg's Drones and Hatcheries.

2) Multi-pronged aggression vs Protoss.

You do the standard 10:00 timing push, rallying your forces to the watchtower. You start with a double drop into his main. You bait his Stalkers with one Medivac, and unload your other while his Stalkers are distracted. You then unload the other as the Stalkers are dealing with the unloaded units, and as his forces from his natural retreat in order to deal with your double drop, you run into his natural with the rest of your army and kill over a dozen workers. You retreat your drop as it's getting hit hard, and fall back for a big push with either Vikings or Ghosts to counter his chosen tech choice.

The push goes flawlessly against his small amount of units, and you win in under 15:00.

3) Breaking a Siege Line against Mech.

Under construction.

4) The most amazing Nuke
Submission by supaflyz.

It is a TvP. You are behind. He has a full Colossus/Chargelot/Sentry/Immortal/Archon/HT/Stalker deathball; you have a couple dozen Marauders, a handful of Marines, and a few Vikings. You are on four base to his three, having sacrificed most of your army to take out his fourth and fifth bases. He is mined out, you have one mining base remaining.

The Protoss player is sieging your fourth -a Planetary Fortress- not realizing that his army is so much larger than yours. You start trying to defend with your meager Viking count, but it is too much- even with mass repair it is going down in HP.

A Ghost spawns.

You call down a Nuke.

20 seconds to Nuclear Detonation.

The Protoss panics, and sends his only Observer back to his base (with Observer Speed) and shift-queues it to cover every inch of his main base, where there are a half-dozen Pylons stacked up, powering a dozen Gateways and two Robotics Facilities.

10 seconds to Nuclear Detonation.

The Protoss looks back at his army, and realizes that the Nuke is right in front of it! Panicked, he attacks, storming everything.
His first Psi-Storm hits your Ghost, the rest you dodge with your Bio army, careful not to get hit too much when you don't need to.

The Ghost is in the yellow.

5 seconds to Nuclear detonation.

The Ghost's HP is slowly being whittled away at through Psi Storms, constantly spammed at his position. 60 HP. 40 HP. 20. Suddenly, a Medivac starts healing the Ghost. 1 HP.

The Ghost does his firing animation, and dies. "Never say die."
The Nuke comes down on the Protoss army, obliterating it. Tiny pieces of the durable Stalkers litter the field, but otherwise there is nothing to mark the Protoss army's demise other than a mushroom cloud and a large crater, which soon dissipates.

Even the might Colossus fell; the Vikings did just enough damage to take down the Shields of each Colossus, rendering them vulnerable.

The Protoss player presses alt-F4 in his rage.

GG

Protoss

1) Multi Warp-In Distraction
Submission by LastStand

You warp in several Zealots to attack the Terran's Mineral Line from a Proxy Pylon. He sends his army to defend, and you move in with your main army to his natural and snipe it.

As he moves for a counter attack, you drop four DT's in his base and warp in more units. You split up your DT's to each of his bases allowing them SCV kills everywhere, and the units you warped-in go to town on his add-on's.

As he is distracted, you move in on his main army with carpet Psi Storms. He reacts too late to win the engagement, and GG's.

2) Double-caster spell-storm.
Submission by supaflyz

It's a PvZ, you are ahead. You did a 4-gate +1 Attack timing that killed his third; you are turtling on three bases for a 200/200 Psi Storm/Chargelot/Sentry/Immortal push. You start to push, setting up a large number of Pylons across the map, then dozens of Banelings come in at your undefended natural and kill not only the buildings that are walling off, but your Nexus, every Probe, and then they move into your main and kill every single Pylon before the Zerg player runs out of Banelings! You start rebuilding all the Pylons you can afford, but it is too late.

You have no choice; you must push or die.

There's just one problem: The Zerg player is a Masters smurfing in Platinum. He is on six bases with a bank of several thousand Minerals and Gas, and is maxing out on Banelings once again.

You know this because he says so, and he broadcasts every single movement; you are still unable to keep up, and you simply decide to push for his main base. Main army on one hotkey, Templar on the other.

You push, suddenly he rolls in with hundreds of Banelings. Just as the first Baneling is about to connect with your Templar, you have a moment of utter clarity, and Force Field his Banelings perfectly inside a circle. You have a moment of disbelief, which is quickly dispelled by what is happening on the screen and the cries of rage coming from the Zerg player. You start casting Psionic Storm onto his Baneling ball, and laugh as they explode into piles of acid, harmless inside the circle of Force Fields.

Helpless, the Zerg player starts trying to re-max on Banelings, but he is thwarted as your army is already at his front door, and in his over-confidence he did not do his Injects -much as you might forget to study for your best subject- and he has only 18 Larvae in total; his meager number of Zerglings rallied to his natural die immediately, and you move on to his tech. He starts building extractors everywhere as his main base dies, raging at '***ing imba protoss.'

However, you see the extractors being built using the Proxy Pylons you so painstakingly set up when his Banelings first busted your natural, and you warp-in Zealots to take them out.

As his cries of imba echo across the map, you slice and dice the final Extractor and you get the message:
"Zerg was defeated!
Zerg has left the game!"

The end-game screen pops up, and you click 'score screen.' Satisfied, but annoyed that he is smurfing in Platinum, you report him and create a thread with a replay, as well as a screenshot showing his match history. You get a blue post in your thread, notifying you that his account has been temporarily banned for several weeks, and his MMR reset.

GG, no re.

Zerg

1) Massing Ultralisks and Winning.
Against an 8 year old.

I once gas stole a Terran as Zerg (with a drone making an extractor, obviously). Then the Terran decides to do the good old Hellion from a reactor factory. As he lifts his barracks to switch with his factory, I cancel the extractor, bring the drone under the landing site beside the reactor, and make a hatchery. I then cancel the hatchery and make a evolution chamber under his floating factory. In sheer amazement, he ggs out, telling me that (and I quote) "what [I] did was too awesome".

That feeling when the protoss gateway army is melting down against your bioball after holding 4gate or blink allin.
You could of course micro your marines and marauders... or you could just lean back and wait for him to leave the game...

One of my personal favourites is killing an entire mineral line with a Baneling drop. It is especially fun versus Protoss, as when the Probes die, they send out an awesome blue explosion and look quite cool. The awesomeness is also intensified if you drop in multiple places at the same time. The anticipation as to whether the opponent will pull/split his worker line is quite entertaining as well. ^____^

As a Protoss, say what you will, there is no greater joy than to hit a perfect vortex against Broodlord Infestor, putting 8 Archons and watching his 15 Broodlord and 10 Corruptors instagib before your eyes.
I'm playing the game, the one that will take me to my end, i'm waiting for the rain, TO WASH-- WHO I AM!!!

Thank you for this blog. You described some of the most epic things to watch (and do if you're good enough) in SC2. I remember at IPL5 when Bomber was playing against Creator and was way behind. He ended up doing that multi-prong aggression against someone who is well known for being able to shut it down very well, and did it better than I'd ever seen before. It was a very epic moment.

Thanks! I just wish I had enough ideas to write more of this stuff, and that the rating reflected the posts.

For zerg:
Baneling mines. First, there's tension. Will he really go that way? Will he step on the banelings? And when he finally does...
first we make expand, then we defense it.
