I have been deeply touched by the various tragedies in the past couple of weeks. The thought that some children will not have their fathers, and parents who have no kids to make happy. It truly rips a hole in my heart. But even there are those who leave our world naturally, indeed my friend's grandmother passed away only a couple of days ago, and she too is (obviously) heartbroken.

I took a moment out of my day to remember and sympathize with these people. Be thankful not for the gifts, but for the people who gave them to you. I hope you all can have this realization as well.

How exactly is anyone "touched" by a tragedy? And what does it mean to be "touched" at all? To care? To feel? What's there to feel? Wow, how terrible, RIP, my condolences, whatever. We all feel awful about it, but still. Why is it important for people to display their superior levels of touched-ness?

What does it mean to die "naturally?" Of old age? Free of disease? We're all GOING TO DIE, dying is not natural or unnatural, it's inevitable. And if you believe in a divine plan of some kind, no deaths are wrong or untimely, it's all part of the plan.

And how far does sympathy go to reduce the pain of those close to random shooting victims? Not jack shit. It just makes some people feel like they're contributing while doing nothing.

Thank you for the reminder. I have been helping take care of own of my relatives who is terminally ill and it gives you a very different perspective on things. I appreciated your post.
