Hello Teamliquid,
the world can be such a grim, old place.
Recently, my carreer has taken quite a dip. The last five years have been a huge mess and things are still deteriourating quickly. I don't want to bore you with too many details, but I've made hiring-decisions that turned out to be, in retrospect, questionable. Then there was a huge infestation in my school, about which my absolutely inapt janitor couldn't do anything, yet the board of administration somehow made it out to be mymistake. When things finally started to calm down, there has been a major accident at one of the sporting events of our school and I was close to getting sacked.
Due to things I do in my free-time and that are completely unrelated to school, that somehow the ministry found out about, I'm now officially being supervised by an official, a horrid lady who doesn't approve of my spare-time activities either and who would freak out if she knew more details.
To make things worse, I've severely injured my arm, making it that much harder to, you know, pursue my leisure-time activities.
I recently started dreaming about coming out of the closet, like - literally coming out of a fucking cabinet - but it is never myself who emerges and it usually ends with me flying off a roof in a moment of blissfull gratitude.
Although I've been virtually living at school, there's so much that's out of my control and yet I'm getting the blame for all the crap that's happening. Even my old friend and colleague has recently been giving me more and more cheek and sometimes I'm just waiting for something severe to happen.

I'm sorry but this sounds like you screwed it up with your actions dude. As an official you shouldn't blame others incompetence, you need to find ways to make it work out. Sometimes you can't, but to blame the ineptitude of another is not helpful.

I know, we were able to track back the infestation to a former student, and I kind of should have seen something like that coming since he didn't exactly part ways amicably, but I like to believe in the good in humans.
Amazingly, it was also a very clever student who came up with a solution for the problem, that was certainly a proud moment.

If he's doing his job, which it sounds like (he's practically SLEEPING at his school, he's doing that much)...and yet due to the INCOMPETENCE of other people who FAIL to do their jobs...the jobs they are ASSIGNED to do...he is getting blamed...
What this shows you is one of the deepest flaws of the power hierarchy...which is that the man at the top receives all the glory...and all the blame.
Yes, it's easy to say that "that's" how it is...but that assumes competency. There are also issues which are COMPLETELY out of his control...kids get injured. Shit happens. Yes you can have the best staff and procedures but at the end of the day...

People get blamed for the mistakes of others all the time. It comes naturally with occupations that manage other people. Regardless of who's at fault, you'll be blamed. It sucks.

You only have one chance to live OP, one chance to make things better. Keep that in mind and hopefully that will motivate you to keep going no matter how bad it looks/feels. There's almost always many ways to do so, subtle or not.
I would like to help more than that, but what you've told us is only a small piece of your life puzzle...

Without going into specifics, let's just say I surround myself with people my superiours don't exactly approve of, one of which being an ex-convict, one of which being a black guy, one of which coming from a lower socio-economic background and myself being rather... flamboyant.

Do Janitors usually handle that sort of thing? Was this some kind of animal-control issue, like raccoons running all over the place, stealing food from the kitchen? I wouldn't think a Janitor would be suited for that kind of drama. I mean, you can spray a raccoon in the face with a can of Raid, and it will kill them, but that's a matter of being able to hit them, and they are very fast. Normally, I would recommend setting their den on fire, but that might cause more damage than the raccoons themselves, so you would probably need to hire a specialist to hunt and destroy the raccoons. These specialists have dart guns, and the darts are dipped in arrow-frog poison, assuring a swift death to the raccoon menace. Not only that, but they get inside the mind of the raccoon, and when they train, spend months getting in touch with their inner-raccoon at a monastery in California. Also, please do not jump off a roof and kill yourself.

Not sure what we are supposed to learn from this evasive, subdued information you are giving. I gather that you're gay and gravitate to othe "socially devious" behaviour that goes against the inherent culuture of the post-secondary school you work at.
If you're gay, i think you ought to just come out and be proud of it. You don't have to be overtly overt with your sexuality. Represent yourself and your traits with pride. If they do not accept you for you, why would you give yourself up for that job? it must be good.
