I just had a dream, where my whole appartment was on fire and I was fighting to get all my stuff safe outside (or that of most important to me) I stumbeled and it was hard to remember what to get out and where it was. In the end it burnt to the ground and I cried because some of the stuff most valuble to me burt to the ground. It got me thinking.

Lets say the place you stayed at, your appartment / house was burning. And you had couple of mins to dive in (before the fire got to heavy) what would you run in and save assuming all living things were outside safe?

1. Clothes.
2. School related things (backpack, relevant textbooks, schoolwork).

3. If I could, I'd grab a certain picture frame and an entire cupboard I have in my closet where I keep sentimental stuff.

4. Computer.

I really like my computer and originally had it first, but now that I think about it it's not as important to me as the other stuff. It's WORTH more, but not as essential if I won't get the other stuff back ever again.
It takes quite a long time of playing and watching a video game before you realize how bad at it you really are.

1. Laptop & hard drive for sure -- my goddamn grad school app. essays are on this computer, plus my notes for my BA thesis, and a lotttttttttt of my precious short stories. D:

2. Notebooks (school notes + scribbles from my short stories) + the books I have checked out from the library (two of them are over $500, also necessary for BA thesis)

3. Various other things depending on time (more trivial: keyboard, clothes, the rest of my books).

1. my laptop and external hd definitely. like EVERYTHING is in here.
2. my denon DN-HP700 headphones. i love these.
3. my suit and some good clothes and coats. just some stuff that would be a huge hassle, not to mention expensive, to replace
4. my table tennis gear. pretty expensive, and i play like 3-4 times a week so it'd be difficult to get by without this stuff.

can't really think of any other stuff....im assuming i have my phone, keys, wallet, and watch on me already

My textbooks? That's about it. Everything else important is on the cloud.

I'm assuming carrying anything heavy is out of the question

1. Cell phone/keys/wallet
2. Laptop/flash drive with legacy docs from old computer
3. ID papers (passport, social security card)/bank statements/tax documents

Optional stuff:

4. The bottle of 1986 Chateau Lafite (1 yr anniversary gift from my first college girlfriend)
5. Jewelry (that ring I bought for her that she mailed back to me)
6. Camera
Что?

My pets would be my first priority after my family, but you already covered that so...

1. Cell Phone/Keys/Wallet

2. My mom's old 1970's classical acoustic guitar that I have in my room.

3. A bag full of light stuff that I can grab easily from my room, probably including my box of sentimentals I keep on my bookshelf.

It would suck to lose my computer but it can be replaced, as can virtually everything else in my room.

Simple.

All my external HardDrives. I even keep them in a bag together when they are not connected to the computer for adding extra stuff to them / rewatching old tv-series I don´t keep on my computer anymore. Anyway I have about 5TB (2/2/1) backedup on those things and just bought anothe 3TB drive for future purposes and it would be very hard to replace all of it.
I also just started with digitalising all my pictures on them. All those pictures from when I was a baby etc. from way before the digital age.

That´s also why I keep them where I can easily grab them. Everything else can be replaced with the insurance money.

IDs and Ipod + headphones. i'd be losing my ps3, my guitar, my banjo, my laptop. seriously though it's good to have a list but if it actually happens just make sure you and all the mammals get out unscathed. don't breathe in the smoke. crawl if you have to

Wow, many people still putting harddisks (or computers containing said harddisks) high on their list. That makes you wonder how well their backups are organized.

I would try to fetch some physical objects that have emotional value (my stuffed bunny that I got when I was born ) and essentials to keep me going, like my wallet (contains ID & bankcards), carkeys and cellphone. Of course I would first ensure that my wife is okay (and in a few months my daugher as well).

All digital files that I wouldn't want to lose are backed up locally (computer -> NAS / homeserver) and offsite (cloud storage for small files, offsite harddisk for large files). Other than the inconvenience of having to obtain all relevant files from their backup locations, there would be no problems with losing my local computers. Material damage is covered by insurance and I have sufficient financial security that I can restart elsewhere without having to wait for insurance to pay out.

Depends how serious it is, I would first grab my parrot but I am a pretty big guy so i would be able to grap parrot + PC if the fire wasn't that big and i could put them down safely close to me
After that... meh, clothes and the monitor i guess

Now here's a man who knows his priorities.

I'd probably save everything I have (I don't have much) starting with my computer. I could get just about everything out in two trips

I know the objective is to prioritize your stuff, but I'm surprised how everyone's response to a fire is to try to save as much stuff as you can. If I noticed a fire where I lived it would either be small enough to be worth trying to put out yourself or large enough to just GTFO. Your life cannot be replaced... and there's insurance.
