Instead, this blog is actually about my current college living situation. Let's start with options, and why I picked the apartment complex that I inevitably did. I attend the second largest (by student population) university in America. There are something like 63-65,000 students attending the University of Central Florida this semester. With that, there are a plethora of housing options spanning a 3-4 mile spread in every direction from the university. My brother attended this university for 5 years, finishing one degree and is two classes (that he'll probably never do) from his second degree, thus I took his advice on a lot of things. The convenience of a shuttle that comes around every 15 minutes was one of those major things that I took his word on. There are 11 apartment complexes supported by the university with their own private shuttles. No spurious relationship here, I toured all 11 of those complexes with him.
He had his own personal reviews of a few of them, most having changed names since he's graduated - because that's what college housing complexes do, it's to get past all of the negative online reviews. It came down to two monolithic complexes and an upscale, very white, complex based on room size, price, and the people I saw around as I toured. The first community he ever lived in had not changed names, but was bought out by a huge corporate apartment rental company along with 5 of the other 11 shuttle complexes. The second was the most expensive and had only white people. It was immediately ruled out. Being from South Florida, anything that lacks ethnic diversity scares me in a very uncomfortable way. Little did I know that this entire (*!#*)(&#&(*)!$&*(!@*()&$&*)(!$()&* city is the same way that complex was. No culture, no diversity, and those of different ethnicities try their hardest to be white. Fuck that, I'll save that for another time. The third was the second most expensive complex I'd seen. It was nice. However, I tapped on the walls and ceiling of the touring unit, and not only were they paper thin, but the people upstairs knocked back. More importantly, the pool had a bunch of hipsters at it. Bam, that's out. The first community happened to also be the cheapest. It had/has no amenities, thus I assumed that was the reason for cost deficiency. Also, it had the largest rooms and living area. Paired with that, the girl giving us the tour wasn't white, and she was the only one who gave a sincere laugh at the gay joke I was randomly spewing out when they would ask me a stupid question (which they - the leasing agents did every single time).
"So are you guys both looking for a place, or just one of you?" "No, we're lovers. Do you have rooms that accomodate multiple tenants?" Yes, I know it's stupid, but I always answer stupid with stupid. Why is it stupid that they asked that? Because my brother looks like he has 3 children already and was very standoffish everywhere we went. So I was sold. My brother said this place was the only apartment complex that his car had never been broken into at. I have a very loud, expensive system with a nice radio in my car. It seemed that this place couldn't get better. $100 less rent a month, no thieves, I was on college apartment Cloud 9. The oversight here is that he didn't have a car his first year of college. -___-
Now here's where the rant occurs. $100 less a month in rent was pretty much the 99% factor for me along with it having it's own shuttle. Two things here, the first is racist. Cultural diversity, as I mentioned before, is important. Part of that IS those white people that I didn't want to be ENTIRELY surrounded by. There are no white people in my complex. I think every black person that goes to UCF lives in my apartment complex, and without exaggeration, at least 80%. Holy shit. At night I'm going to eventually run one of them over on accident. There are so, so many. I feel like I live in the ghetto again, but some college ghetto of future communication major dropouts. The second is that without fail I'm charged endlessly by this huge corporation for absolute bullshit that they should be responsible for upkeeping, or at least including in the rent. Since I moved in 3 weeks ago I've been charged 3 times for "annual fees". One was $50, one was $30, and the most recent, from today, is $45 for "administrative fees" for the 3rd party company that controls the billing from the utility company from the complex. It's ironically named "Conservice". I don't think I need to break down Con-Service, but I mine as well. I called them outraged that I had to pay, as everyone in the complex individually does for something that should be inclusive. Not only did I sign myself into this, as they directed me to the page in the lease that I indeed did legally sign myself up for, but a myriad of other things that I expect to come soon enough. Of course I didn't read your corporate 300 page lease, nor did I know that I could have optioned to pay my own utilities. Another thing with those utilities is that this complex not only has the fewest amenities, but the least amount of your rent attributed to the utility cap. I'm not sure if it's humanly possible in America to live on $30/month in utilities if you're socialized. My guess is no, so let's just chalk that up as a new fee.
Recap before I carry on: I'll save $1,200 a year by living with a bunch of future dropouts whom riddle the air with the scent of marijuana 24 hours a day, have been charged $125 of that already, will continue to be charged at least $15 in overages on utilities per month, and have no amenities besides a kiddy size pool riddle with SoulGlo and people screaming YOLO because they don't know how to swim. Let's add on to those charges. I was charged an annual parking fee of $80 that I negated to mention prior. Up to $205. So the first move-in week they hosted some events, that all of the office girls put together so people meet and greet each other, and so they can put names to faces. I received an e-mail every day about each event. I attended three. The first because they offered free breakfast. They handed me a kiddy size box of Fruit Loops. The second was some game night where they'd have FREE chips, dip, beverages, and CHIK FIL A!!! No way I wasn't going to be the first person in there so I could eat all of their Chik-Fil-A. Their... non-existent chik-fil-a accompanied by little kiddy sized bags of doritos. I figured why the hell not, third strike and you're out. I went to the third one which was a weekend Smoothie King free morning giveaway or something. I walked in, saw this black girl arms deep in a smoothie machine as the office manager poured in packets of artificial smoothie product, something like Crystal Light. Didn't even wait around for that one.
Roommate matching, surely they couldn't f*** that up. All you have to do is 1+1+1+1 = 4. They found a way. In some god awful unimaginable equation I, a 24 year old junior criminal justice major white male am paired with an 18 year old biology major white male, a 30 year old Ph.D "student" whom is an international student from Iran that works for the school as a TA and RA, and he hopes to get his Ph.D in system engineering. Now the next one is way out in left field. A 22 year old black that is a senior in... journalism. Rewind. Journalism? Now if the 30 year old couldn't be the 18 year old's father in his country of origin, that's one thing. I remember on my roommate matching sheet saying that I was extremely clean, tidy, and quiet. Now at this point you see what is coming, but I personally went down to the leasing office where I was given a hard time about accessing these public records, yet received them eventually - the roommate matching sheets. These guys could have simply lied. They didn't. Guy from Iran - "average cleanliness" "average noise level". Dirtiest slob of a fucking pig I've ever met in my life. This guy re-uses his dirty dishes that sit in the sink that he never washes, of which the food splashes all over the stove that he never cleans. The white guy's matched mine identically, and he is indeed clean. The black guy didn't even circle anything for his cleanliness level, and had himself listed as a "night owl" while the guy from Iran and the 18 year old white kid clearly marked "early riser". Needless to say, the black guy is a fucking uncouth cunt.
If none of this was enough to drive me crazy, the girls in the office are incompetent beyond recognition. Every time I call and ask if I have a package they claim that they don't know (they keep them in the office, so they're not accessible) and that I need to come down to the office for them to even bother looking. I was waiting on a check starting the 3rd day living here, it was a check from a relatives will. Large, important, and irreplaceable. I asked for it every single day for 4 days. My other family members, who live further from the passed relative than I, already had theirs. Deductive reasoning tells me that it's there. On the 4th day I demanded to know why I couldn't receive "any mail", as to not detail why I was being so insistent. I was aggressive when I said it, I admit that. This blonde girl who I wasn't asking snapped back at me and said, I quote "WE WON'T SORT THE MAIL UNTIL THE SECOND WEEK, WE'RE BUSY." At this point I should point out that upon entering the leasing office none of the girls were doing anything, and the girl who snapped at me was texting as she retorted. I guess they were all catching up on... maintaining the printer, one couch, and two televisions that reside in the office.
tl;dr fuck this place
Stuffz:
TheShimmy's Rush Week - Collegiate Individual Tournament angers me for one simple reason. He made it international on a foreign based website, yet allowed one guy enter his Korean friend who speaks no English and was an ex semi-progamer. I just lost to this toolbag who is 1800 on Fish. He was far beyond any competition in the tournament, and will utterly fucking smash Jumper in the finals. I tried to help Jumper prepare by telling him his build orders, play style, and unit production for every single game. I then proceeded to play Jumper with my offrace. I beat him 2 times out of 5. He's going to get destroyed. That Korean is on an entirely different level and makes a mockery out of the tournament. Sure, he is in college, after retiring from progaming.
TL's unwillingness to feature my stream also angers me. I get their reasoning, but I'm 10x more talented than a majority of their active featured BW streamers.
I was introduced to Zaxby's upon moving here. Anyone who has never had Zaxby's is devoid of the best fast food I've had in my life.
RuSh = Bibiane. Because I said so. huehuehue
I'm not going to re-read this and edit any typoes or broken English, hope it makes sense.
