I always love your blogs. 5/5

No, I'm not a member of a warehouse store, because there is only one around, and that one requires you to own a business licence (dunno what it's called). Some people do though, and they always got 5kilo packs of various sweets, which is amazing :D.

On stereotypes:
Those exist for a reason. Biologically, they are a way for humans to instantly decide if there is a threat around them or not. They also transfer naturally into your every day life. The thing with stereotypes is that they can easily be used against other people, which should not be the case. You should use them as a starting point for interaction, but not as a fixed and unchangeable fact.

Edit: 300 views but only 1 reply.. sad.

@Xiron: a lot of people just like to read and enjoy his blogs without necessarily replying. TL has a lot of lurkers and besides, most people won't reply if they don't have to. The fact that they read his blog is already pretty good. I imagine most of them read all the way through. MightyAtom's Knowhow part 2 has almost 3000 views but only 5 replies

There isn't anything I buy specifically frequently enough, but I go to warehouse stores like costco often enough in general to merit having a membership, but especially each trip I buy a lot of goods so it's overall cheaper than going to a random store and buying something. Saves some time (for me) as well.

I think you're a clear example that featured blogs are only featured because of who the author is, and not the content. Not that I have a problem with it though.

I live literally right next door to a grocery store/cafeteria/department store that I do 95% of all my shopping at, and I still haven't bothered to get their point card. Not entirely sure why.

I don't quite get the idea with profiling in this blog after reading it from top to bottom, and checking the OP and the Jpegs in it...

But I did just wake up so, bleh...

"Stupid people know that they live their life constantly doing stupid things, with just enough brain cells to barely survive, so the process of judging would not be kind to them."

I doubt this, actually. It's been found that it takes intelligence to be able to gauge how intelligent people are (including yourself) and it also takes intelligence to realize how broad the advantages of intellect are. I've known plenty of dumb-to-average people who thought they were really smart and/or knowledgeable. It's comparable to the Dunning-Krueger effect.

Stupid people hold everyone blameless and believe in the idea that there are no bad people, just bad decisions and that no one can be judged for constantly making bad decisions."

That's not stupid people, that's PC liberals.

Also, I don't quite think you were very explicit with how hypocritical stupid people can get about judging. Just because stupid people pretend like it's not right for others to judge them doesn't mean they make a conscious effort to be some kind of saints who never judge people. They are simply hypocritical. What "stop judging me" means is "I can't justify my state of failure but I don't want to lose face, so I'm going to resort to a veiled ad hominem that plays on your sensibilities and possible sense of shame/guilt for calling someone out." Nobody really disengages the part of their brain that stereotypes and judges others, so once they're done calling you a bad person for judging them, they'll think to themselves that you're just some stuck-up person with the wrong political views whose mother was a whore etc.

Well, these people are using judgment, but they are using it to decide that all judgment used by other people is bad (especially directed towards themselves), while disregarding the fact that their own behavior is judgment too. Though I am not a psych expert, I think that a big contributor to this behavior (at least in Western cultures) is the fundamental attribution error, which is basically the assumption that our life circumstances are entirely a result of our own abilities/ decisions, without taking situational factors into account. This bias leads to uninformed judgment of other people's personalities/abilities, as well as taking offense to any judgments rendered towards oneself (due to the assumption that it is directed at one's own personality/ability).

Everyone uses stereotypes/heuristics/rules of thumb, it's pretty much ingrained in us by evolution. Some people are just less aware about how and when it is used both by themselves and others

What happens is there are people who will see a situation and lay blame entirely on that person, so then there are others who know that isn't correct and point out there is context, certain circumstances, and other factors that led to the situation occurring. So if person X makes a bad decision, some people will be perfectly fine saying that person is simply stupid, that's all there is to it, then others will say, no, there's this factor, that factor etc and then the former people will accuse the latter people of holding, 'everyone blameless and believe in the idea that there are no bad people, just bad decisions and that no one can be judged for constantly making bad decisions.'

When you have people that are so extreme on one side of anything there's going to be people that are equally extreme in opposition because they feel they have to be whereas the middle ground is actually most correct.

I think everything you said is correct. Just for the improvement of the wording in my blog, are you clear that I am not the former extreme in your example? I can't even imagine someone who labels someone stupid because they did one stupid thing without considering the context. I mean, my point was that it is acceptable to judge someone when they do a behavior over and over and over...Eventually, if you do something over and over, it is just WHO YOU ARE. Not a smart person making mistakes endlessly.

It's their website after all. They can use whatever criteria they want, and i'll be the first to admit my blog is sometimes offensive and runs into problems with entities aligning themselves with it.

That said, I do it for the people that enjoy it. The only reason i'd ever want to be featured is because I work hard to create content for a community that I love, and I'd love to be more of a fixture in the community. It would be awesome years down the road to have "king charlie" blogs as something anyone that frequents TL.net is familiar with. Ultimately, it is a pipe dream, and one that couldn't be further out of my hands. At least they are gracious enough to let me use their medium to be on the front page of something for a few hours...if I were on a blogging website I wouldn't even have that. If I wasn't able to hone my skills like I have been able to, I wouldn't have blogging networks interested in me, my blogs would be shit, like day one. With the goals that I have, being featured on TL is nothing more than just that.

I buy apple strudel from Costco, my sister has a membership there and the strudel is probably the most amazing snack I've ever eaten. They're quite literally made with happiness baked into the center.

I have a Sam's Club membership. I do agree; a lot of stuff there is just plain ridiculous to buy unless you have a family of 12 or something like that. Most stuff will spoil or you don't really get much savings unless you go through entire boxes of it a week.

Most of my savings come from drinks. You can get the gigantic bottles of gatorade/powerade for like less than $.75 each. You can also get the giant $4 redbulls for like $2 each. Or the $2-3 starbucks frappachinos for $1.25 each. I spend like $150 every few months and always have a fridge full of any drink I want.

But yeah, 5 pack of jumbo crest toothpaste lol...

Anyway, I agree with your message ^_^ stereotypes do exist because it's part of how we organize things neatly into our brain. To me, stereotyping is just the negative connotation of "organizing."

Now they have Business costco...for small businesses...and then executive platinum memberships there....Eventually costco will be "Baby Costco" and everyone will shop at business costco and then there will be super business costco for businesses

Really liked this sentence for some reason. Well written and I agree for the most part. First one of your blogs I've read, but after this I'll definitely go back and read some others.

I kind of like costco. The free samples are pretty chill. You can buy enough toilet paper to fill an outdoor shed, and then a shed to store it in.

I once bought Kirkland Brand Medium black t-shirts. They didn't fit very well though. It was like wearing a giant tube sock. I brought them back.

Kirkland Brand boxer briefs are pretty great though.

I guess the only thing I really hate about Costco is the people that shop there. You got that part pretty right.

Wow. They don't sell furs at my Costco. I also find it weird that people would try stuff on in the middle of the chaos. I just bought those packs of 3 underwear things.

Actually the weirdest part is the food at the end. They have these huge hot dogs, pizzas, sodas, etc.. It's a little depressing. Its like they're congratulating people for their gluttony, their overconsumption, and on making it through the horrible shopping experience

"You bought 8L of hot sauce? Geez buddy... Better scoff down a few 'dogs before you try to haul that thing out to the truck"

I guess I have a love/hate thing going on with Costco.

I know man, that food court has become some bizarre right of passage between the check stand and the disabled person that swipes a highlighter across your receipt to make sure you didn't steal anything. I guarantee you 90% of those people dumping onions and relish onto a hot dog feel obligated in a ritualistic way.

Idk man, Costco is pretty awesome. My family shops there all the time. We get like jumbo packs of fruit, you know, 12-24 oranges a week in the winter, 12 packs of fuji apples per week, watermelon, grapes, peaches, cherries, giant cartons of strawberries in the summer. Not to mention they have good quality, cheap meat. Toothpaste and toilet paper are also nice as we buy it like once every, what, 6 months, a year, and they last forever. Oh, and stuff like 4 packs of 1/2 gallon tropicana orange juice, packs of popsicles for the summer, gallons of milk, and like 24 packs of gigantic eggs. I mean, sure, you can be a fatass at Costco, or you can buy fresh, healthy stuff to cook with really cheaply. :D
