Day9itude - A brighter, better attitude

I think that the community needs to form a much better attitude in regards to everything. In real life, in SC2, on the forums, we should strive to have a positive attitude. In real life, I am always an absolutely positive person about anything. However, I find it very easy to be sucked into the negative bickering and clammoring that goes on in these forums (and around the net). I dont think we should be this way, and I think that it only harms ourselves and what we may strive for.

I am not going to say to be exactly like day9 and try to remain neutral in hot topics like balance or anything... but just always be positive. If you think something is imbalanced, dont just say that it is. Bring evidence to support your claim, state why it is overpowering and try to offer a solution that can be discussed in a positive manner. If somebody is found to be doing something, dont pile on the hatred... dont jump to conclusions. Take a step back and try to really look at it with as little bias as possible. Be mature, be smart. You play StarCraft, you represent StarCraft... you can be and do so much more than what we often see.

Join me and take a vow of day9itude. Strive to be happy, positive and just awesome.

Funny thing about day9 fans is that they usually put on his attitude, but it's just a shallow mask. For example, playing on ladder you will sometimes run into people doing funday mondays and planning to send them in. They act all manner and day9y in the start, but when you beat them, they go into BM mode immediately and it shows how fake they are.

I actually havent watched day9 in a long while, I dont have the time and prefer to watch one of the many tournaments going on. However, I do think he has a fantastic attitude that more people should follow. I dont want people to be fake, I want people to get an actual different mindset from what they have at the moment. It is completely understandable to be frustrated when you lose for example. However, instead of having that frustration and negative attitude and venting it on your opponent by being BM, be cheerful and happy. Say, "GG " and just leave right away. Let it simmer for a minute, collect your thoughts, go get a drink or watch the replay and figure out what to do... being BM isnt constructive, it is destructive. You gain nothing from it, in fact you just get more upset.

I disagree. Forcing yourself to be positive all the time is just as bad as giving in to the bad side of yourself.

Try to be balanced and don't necessarily insult people. Say "i fucking hate your strategy" instead of "fuck you asshole" when BMing, for example. Keep it civil.

Why do you have to tell them that you hate their strategy? Why cant you think about it and hate it for a moment, then try to learn to love that strategy? I know for a while I absolutely hated drop play (I am zerg) in ZvT. But I kept improving my drop defense, and now I actually kind of like it when they try to drop me because I know it is likely more taxing on them that it is on me at my level. I used my dislike for something as a driving force for me to improve, rather than just venting it out and gaining nothing.

Because people feel things. Because feeling things is a part of humanity. Sometimes people feel angry at things and need to vent a little. Not sure how that is something I need to explain.

What you are saying is not the same thing I am saying. You are confusing the initial, immediate, emotional response to something negative, which is mostly driven by feelings and should not be suppressed, rather dealt with, with attitude which is a more long-term approach to things. This is what you do when you get over it. I am explaining that people should deal with their feelings properly rather than let them run amok, while in your OP you are simply muddling the difference between the two.

People who do not understand or realize the difference are the fake people that Tobberoth is talking about. They think they have the attitude right, and they might well have, but they do not deal with their emotions, which is why we get the weird contrast between being all cheerful and happy (which is a fine attitude to have, I don't really mind), but when things go bad, their ugly side comes out.

So in conclusion you do not have the wrong idea, but you are not hitting the root of the issue at all.

wow, that's a: how to turn a positive topic into pure hate

Actually I try to always have this attitude. Obviously you sometimes have to vent, but why do you have to BM your opponent? It's just an annoyance. Just complain about x being imba/too easy in mumble or shout it out loud once. There is no need to burden your fellow gamers with you being a bad loser
So actually the advice OP is giving seems natural, but it's never bad to hear it from time to time. So thanks for reminding us

It takes a long time to really stick to something like this but Ive been trying for about 6 months. Nothing to due with day9, just that I realized I had become a very negative person that was always mildly on edge and I didn't like how I felt or how I was acting.

Don't expect it to happen easily or over-night but given time and perseverance it really does effect you and others in a positive way. Now instead of firing off something negative as habit and something positive or at least neutral as an unusual response the negative response has become the one I have to think about.

Way to go and I really hope others try this out for awhile, it will make them a teensy bit happier I think.

How is it pure hate, it's relevant. When people put on an attitude just because they are told to, it becomes shallow. If people hate to lose and BM when they do, they aren't going to be able to stop doing that just because they like day9 and he tells them to do so.

Be manner because you want to be manner, don't act like you're mr happy positive if you're still a baby when you lose, more or less.

Why would you force yourself to adopt a positive attitude? Why brush off mistakes and treat them like they're nothing when they are actually something. The attitude is one thing out of many I don't like about day9 anymore because it's too positive.
There's a point when it stops being good (if it were good at all) to have a positive attitude, especially one as extreme as the one day9 shows on camera.
I believe the best attitude is one as objective as possible. Okay, you screwed up big time, you deal with it, not put on your rose-tinted glasses and say it's nothing. It's not nothing! Instead, you should focus on fixing the mistake and taking it like a man should

I don't think that many people can actually do what day9 does, heck for all we know day9 only acts this way when he is streaming or casting and what not. But I bet day9 rages on games he is not streaming, why else does he not stream his sc 2 play? It's simple, he rages like a mofo.

It is hating because OP was a positive thread about how we should behave while playing starcraft. Then you come in and say day9 fans are often not even friendly they just pretend to be so. They are stupid and I don't like them and so on and so on, you get what I mean.
So my question is, why does this opinion about day9 fans belong in this thread? was OP talking about how every day 9 fan is always nice? No, he just said we should be nicer while laddering or doing whatever, so the whole point you made was irrelevant and hateful towards a group of people.
And no, a person who is actually raging on the other side of the internet but doesn't BM me, is always more pleasant than a person raging and swearing. So be manner for other people's sake.

What are you talking about, I never said that at all. If you read the title of this blog, you'll see why day9 is relevant to the discussion. OP is specifically saying people should be positive like day9, but my experience shows that this doesn't work. People who watch day9 and try to be positive like him fail at it. I don't hate them and I never said they were stupid, I'm just saying it doesn't work like that, they try to act like day9 but when it all comes down and they lose, it breaks down.

People who rage and BM do so because they don't have respect for their opponents, they need to learn to take responsibility for their losses, that way they will become manner, instead of trying to act positive and fail at it.

OP's message is "When you play the game, try to remain mature, objective, analytical, and more positive than negative".

He also mentions Day[9], who is a good role model for this type of behavior (although slightly overly-positive when presenting his Dailies), and then people start hating on the OP because some people dislike like Day[9].

Nice job, fellas. You not only missed the boat on the OP's point... you're not even near the water.

This happens to me all the time, and I honestly hate it when I can't resist the urge to reply negatively instead of ignoring the topic / moving on. I'd say over 80% of my post are pessimistic/negative. The thing is, for every post that I do submit, there are like 5 others where I restrained myself and didn't write them, or didn't post them even if I did start writing them.

Everybody knows that arguing on the internet isn't the most optimal way to use one's time, but reading TL is often times like running through a meteor shower - you can restrain yourself from replying to 10, 20, even 50 posts, but then the 51st finally gets you and you snap.

Great 9itude Rabiddeer (yes, that is how it should be spelled out - 9itude. If you dont have 9itude, you have a problem with your 8titude).
