On the last days I''ve got serious family issues, I do not speak anymore with both my parents, and my school is going way too bad. Things are becoming way worse every day that passes, and I realized today that I've got no fucking clue about what is my purpose on life.
Did you find one?
And please, do not say family. I consider getting a family an egoistic choice, because I listen many people saying "I wish to have a son", pretending their " son " to be the key of a life that is worth it and that can be considered happy..
I will have no childrens, because I do not think this is the world I would like my childrens to see and live in. Also, I do not want to give life to other beings just to use them as my own tools to happyness.
Also, am I the only one thinking that life is pain, spaced out by brief moments of happyness?
And in the end, is my life worth it?
I have to get an answer.

family, reproducing is biologic. That's why ppl aim for that. Do you have a girlfriend and how much do you sit on your computer? Do you have any hobbies?
|
Life itself has no purpose. An individual's life is wholly different though, and you can give meaning to your own life, or someone else's, etc...
Are you the only one thinking that life is pain? Statistically, the obvious answer would be no; but again, life has no purpose. Now, you'd then be projecting that your life is pain, spaced out by brief moments of happiness. One isn't the best to judge their own circumstances with the inherent bias and all, but life is about making your authentic choices, and enjoying your life in your own way.
Is your life worth it? That's not an easy answer. Are you able to do things that you enjoy? Why or why not? Are you doing anything to correct or continue that path? Many people introduce obstacles or irrationality in areas where they could be happy, saying they can't do something because of X. They usually get in the way of their own happiness.

purpose is to be the number one pokemon trainer and/or sc2 player, and to eat lots of candy, and to watch southpark, and to be a G and ride around town with the window rolled down cranking hip hop tunes, and die. hope this helps gl man

I play computer 2 hours a day (starcraft) . I have hobbies, but I tend to lose interest really fast,I do Martial arts. I study law at university. On the other time I got, I should be studying, but I'm not able to (i've got no will)
Also, I'm really used to think many times that it would be way better that after going to bed, I should not awake anymore. The fact that it may happen gives me some hope. I thought many times about committing suicide. And I'm not afriad of committing it, If I must be sincere. I'm more afraid of the after. Most religions condemn people who commit suicide, I wonder if after dieing I will even find a worse hell than the one I'm living on the Earth.
No, I do not have a girlfriend. I always was unlucky on this part. Sadly fate is opposing me on every thing I do.

Yes: to learn. Learning is so much fun. Trying new things and failing more often than not is exciting in and of itself...but omfg...when you don't fail...there isn't much that can knock you off cloud nine. Plus having a bunch of general knowledge comes in handy sometimes.
And yes, your life is worth living. I can't think of any reason that it wouldn't be...just find something...anything!

what if, by looking behind I see that it's impossible to me to change, and that it was never worth it, but for brief moments?
It's not a matter of grey area. People tends to think that every person can shape his own destiny with his own hands, but, I don't agree with that attitude.

Thanks sir, but these are not purposes, these are just ways not to think about our common lacking: the purpose.

Thanks sir for your encouragement. But... I cannot share your same point of view

The great philosopher 50 Cent has already answered the question of our lives purpose.... Get rich or die tryin'.

You, sir, appear to be rather depressed and unsatisfied with your life. I hope you forgive my harshness, but the way you write sounds very dark and I would recommend a change in lifestyle. Sounds like you dislike your father/family (or at least hold a grudge towards them) and appear aimless, and therefore can't find the will for studying as you don't want to reach your goal.
If I'm mistaken I'm deeply sorry and have misread (or read too much into your writing), but if I'm correct then you should seek out help or change your lifestyle, as studying clearly is not in your best interest. Go spend some time travelling or try to find something that makes you happy.
Staying on-topic, I would define the most basic purpose of life ensuring the stability (and therefore survival) of humanity. I would argue that fitting into society and procreating is the best way to achieve this purpose, but you seem to dislike the idea of procreation. For me, finding something that I can maximize my utility for society seems to be the best reason for living - find a job that I like, earn enough income to spend on/with the people I cherish and live a stable life.

Some people's lives are very worth it, others are not. I think it ultimately depends on your drive. If you really really want something you'll probably find a way to get it, not only will you be happy in the achieving of that (temporarily) but you'll have a solid base to do better things.
I think the meaning of life is to set out and achieve your goals, or to have an adventure along the way by doing things you never thought you would do and enjoying it all. I'm pretty sure when people look back on their lives, they ask themselves did I live a full life, and that's the most meaningful of all. So I think it mostly comes down to willing to take chances and discover where your passion lies in order to live fully. There is no deeper meaning to life, philosophically...just because there is no evidence to indicate that there is (i.e. God). Even if there were a hidden spiritual aspect, its invisible to us and so is meaningless all the same.
Its just people are lazy and fearful so it often leads them to living like the majority, working in a cubicle 9-5 and maybe doing things on weekends, or having the standard family etc. Its good you're thinking about it, maybe it'll launch you into a more energetic mindset?

Change your playlist. Seriously! You are clearly depressed. I had that mental state for a while and not long ago. Maybe year ago or something like that. What is my point? When I were depressed I`ve listend to Depeche Mode* etc. That was very comfortable for my mind, cause he jus wanted to stay in that state. Once day I`ve just said to myself "**** that I can`t be mad about everything and at everyone". I`ve put Queen CD into radio and started forcing my mind to get over that sadness and misery. It didn`t work for first time (maybe a little), but the more you stimulate your mind positively the quicker you will feel normal or even better.
I hope you will get better. If not maybe you should call specialsit
*I don`t say that DM is bad. It is just not good to listen them when you are sad

Sounds like you are having a bit of an existential crisis. I guess you are around 20 from the 1992 in your user name, and this is a pretty common coming of age type of experience, probably more so among the intellectually predisposed.
These feelings can be scary, but one can take some comfort in the fact that many have gone through such feelings before you, and come through to live long lives full of purpose and meaning.
I recommend reading some of the philosophy of existentialism. Watch "Blade Runner" or even better read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K Dick, "Fight Club" is pretty existentialist.

You are asking the wrong question. Humans are always trying to find purpose in things, but life doesn't fit this question. It is similar to asking what the meaning of a banana is. Nothing, a banana just exists to exist. This is at least how i have come to rationalize it, as a guy who almost took his life because i couldn't find a reason not to.
A better question is why does it matter that anything matters? In the end, your life is the only thing important, as you said, not your parents or your pets. There's going to be a lot of cliche advice in this thread, but you really don't want to throw away the only chance you get to do something truly great. Or really just something, anything at all.
Living life can be an interesting thing, "Can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all.."

but life doesn't fit this question. It is similar to asking what the meaning of a banana is. Nothing, a banana just exists to exist.
^ sums it up
Anyway, my advice is that, since there is essentially no purpose, give yourself one if you believe having a purpose matters, make a goal, and enjoy striving towards it. Or you could live with no purpose in mind at all, instead just enjoying life moment by moment, obviously life isn't exactly flowers and rainbows all the time, but its an experience, and one you have the privilage of having.
To borrow yet another quote from the poster above
Living life can be an interesting thing

Life's purpose? Life has no purpose, because every life belongs to the person who is living it. You may choose to live for entertainment, playing video games all day long. You may choose to live for love, settling down with one you dearly care for. You may even choose to live for evil, making your life's purpose to stand in the way of others' purpose. Ultimately, you must make your own purpose, for it will not be given to you.

You ask, what is the purpose of life? If someone had an universal answer that could satisfy everyone, we'd all have certainty about what to do with life, and nobody would have any problems.

ROFLMAO
Let me take Christianity as an example. Non-believers end up in hell just the same as people who commit suicide.
If you are a true faithful believer you would be certain that there was God, and since his words (bible) are infallible, you would dare not go against his will and take your own life. Furthermore, the purpose of your life would be to wait for God's command or will and then follow it. Obviously, since you have considered suicide and don't know what the purpose of your life is, you are not a true believer. So if there was a God, you are still going to hell. But why should that matter, if you don't believe in him, wouldn't you not believe in hell?
One thing for sure, life lasts a finite amount of time, and death (in the current world or w/e the fuck you think you believe) is eternal. Since life is a limited resource, its gonna become more valuable as you live longer (basic theory in economics).
Judging from your thoughts on the afterlife, you sound like you are really confused and you don't even know for certain what you believe or think. It's too soon to take your life, cause you don't even know who you are. Just sit down and think things through. In sc2 terms, I'd just say you're on tilt. Go analyze your "replays" and figure out where you are having issues with life.

To anyone reading this, I do not condone the use of hard drugs in anyway shape or form. I will admit however, that I have tried my fair share and know the reprocutions of each(nothing worse than e... which is a very mild drug in my eyes).
Okay, first off I would like to start by saying that I was in your exact position. Little to no contact with my family due to the distance between us when I was in college. I started sleeping later, becoming more and more lathargic while becoming more and more depressed. I like to think that was in part to my diet, not carring about anything, and overall drug abuse(and yes, I mean alcohol aswell).
One day my buddie told me that he had gotten ahold of some shrooms. While being very skeptical about them due to my current state of mind, I chose to buy an eight anyway(3.5 grams). The reason for this was due to the fact that I had read an article about how psychadelics help a person come to terms with themselves while "opening your third eye".
not the exact article, but it gets my point across. ref: Ref
Non related tid bit: People call it that because they think psychadelics, so call, open your 6th sense. "You cannot smell without a nose, you cannot "see" without a thid eye"
Long story short(will go into further detail if people are actually interested): I overall had a good trip with a few negative thoughts floating around(I took the shrooms alone so that I could be with my thoughts without interuption) but I learned how to concentrate on what I wanted to know. A little fun fact; When "tripping" you loose your ego and reveal your truest thoughts, while also having a completely fresh point of view(sort of like its the first time you have ever thought about it). Overall my biggest piece of info i took out of the experience(I would never call this a high. Truly an experience) was that I was wasting my time and life with the petty abuse of "drugs" while also having an extreme lack of family in my life, when I could be fullfilled with furthering my knowledge of what I LOVE.
It might sound corny to everyone else, but it really stuck with me. I ended up putting college on hold(can only learn when I am willing. Bullshitters call it A.D.D.) while I work in IT and teach myself how to code through online tutorials, projects, and those damn expensive books . I live on my own, but my old buddy is moving in with me so that he can move out of his parents house. He is going to college full time while also working to pay for everything.
All in all, I am extremely happy with the path I have choosen. Obviously English and writing are not my strong suite :X
To put all of this into context, I am currently 20. All of this happened when I was 18.
P.S. I lurke these forums constantly, but for some reason this topic struck a chord with me. GL with your battle man. Happyness wouldnt exist without sadness

Your purpose in life is to exist. What exactly existence means is both subjective and irrelavent, just realize that it is there, no matter what people say.
fuck nihilism
|
Hey man, I know what it's like to feel that pointlessness. The only way to get through is to stop asking yourself those questions; they're the wrong questions. Try to figure out why and you will make it.
