Ok, Please let me just state. You do not know anything about Day9, Idra, Naniwa, Any other contreversial figure unless you've talked, met and had a very long conversation over a long period of time. Other than that you are all gossiping like little school girls on some big name celebrity. You are taking "OH MY GOD HE IS MAKING MONEY" as a sex scandal in a magazine.
As we grow as a community this will obviously happen. People will hate the changes or like em or be neutral. What really matters is that we all play nice. Now people can rage at forums, type angrily on their keyboards, or not. Either get educated, learn, be patient, inquisitive, and so on.
But honestly, we know nothing about them. And everything everyone says on this forum is a guess, an assumption, an opinion. Therefore:

GROW UP

We are a Starcraft 2 Community. The community said to be MATURE. How is this mature? Squabbling about how people are making money. Lost their passion. Arguing about who said what. Why some people have more money than others.

The world isn't fair people. I've worked at place where my co-workers we're renting room apartments and living off cup of noodles. I have had classmates who came from pretty well off families. Some of them were arses. Some of them were great. But you just have to accept you cannot stereotype ANYONE, based off speculation. I KNOW Day9 BUT I do not know Sean Plott.

We do not know what goes on in his head. We do not know how much money he makes. It is not his job to inform us. He cannot bend to our every desire. We need to Grow Up. Accept what he gives us.

AND BE GRATEFUL

Look at what Teamliquid gives us. A forum, constant updates, streams, access, coverage. We should be PRAISING the GOOD in our community rather than just Shitting on it. I mean come on, We already have enough crap outside the world, why Cant we just for once have all around happiness for everyone in the community.

Is it really too hard to ask to just STOP flaming, STOP hating and just learn to accept and give critique.

Can we stop calling people fake, washed up, rager, hater, troller, etc. and Just bond together as a community.

If its really that difficult, how are we mature?

How are we going to be able to build an Industry around people who are just angry about making money, acting, etc.

Passion goes on and off. People go on and off. But what remains is the community. We are what makes up Starcraft 2 and E-sports in general. If we really want to make a better e-sports, shoudlnt we look at ourselves to improve it?

Thanks for listening :D

This is one of the most random blogs I have ever seen, people are hating on Day 9 now? Since when?

If you look at fan sites for other sports (like American football) the mods are a bit stricter about bashing players/coaches/whoever or criticizing them for stupid shit. I guess too much negativity can drive the happier fans away.
What is best? To crush the Zerg, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the Protoss.

Reddit you say? That's shocking, I would never have imagined Reddit would go after one of the members of the community.

Sorry for being oblivious, I don't care much for the meaningless drama that takes place outside of the game.

Unfortunately people who are haters and whiners and also idiots do not read these blogs, and if they do, they won't change. I agree though, I was going to make a rant blog on my own before I realized that it wouldn't change anything. ):

r/Starcraft is a large source of all this, and always has been a large player when the waves of hate ride in. RedditSC (and to a large extent Reddit as a whole) is the worst collection of sensational overreacting negativity on the internet and ought to just be shut down for everybody's sake. The little quality that comes out of it isn't worth the disproportionate amount of damage and needless flames that it spews
There's a hole in the world like a great black pit, and the vermin of the world inhabit it... and its morals aren't worth what a pig could spit, and it goes by the name of Reddit.

I don't quite agree with the general point of the blog.
Drama, gossiping and bitching is a big part of what makes spectator sports. In that regard starcraft is no different from most popular sports. People bitch about football players being overpaid all the time, Tiger woods sex life has been everywhere in the news, people hate on rival teams etc...
That's nothing specific to stracraft. Starcraft is NOT just serious business. It's entertainment, it's a spectator sport. As such it's no surprise many people bitch about what happens and about its public figures. Like all public figures in every area are bitched about to some extent.
While it's good that there is some moderation to it, it's also what keeps the comunity lively.

In that regard I think TL mod policy is pretty good at keeping the level of bitching bearable while entertaining.
There are 01 kind of people who know binary. Those who understand little endian and those who don t.

i have a theory. it's a somewhat rude theory but i think it's true. compared to other spectator sports sc2 has a disproportionate amount of coverage of community figure's/player's personal opinions and aspects of their lives, which opens up a HUGE potential for the kind of hate you talked about. now why is the coverage skewed in this way? i think it's because the average sc2 fan are lonely nerds who lack social lives and are looking to sc2 to make up for it. they thrive on hateful rumors and discord amoung players, much like the way lonely housewives sit in front of a tv all day eating up celebrity drama. this would also explain why their interactions (mostly reddit "pitchforking") are so illogical/bm.

tldr: sc2 fans are socially awkward assholes

The moment people make money out of anything, then people will criticize and question profoundly.

It's human nature. I don't agree with it, but that's how it has always been.

What I think is in a lot of people's mind is basically: "This guy is making money from a video-game, is it really that much harder than my stressful job? Is he worth the money?"

Jealousy, bitterness, competitiveness, sense of power it's all part of human nature. Nothing you can do about it to be honest.

btw the SC community is not mature. Not in the last few years anyway.

" I don't enjoy his shows anymore" is legitimate criticism. Does it make sense to hate him if some overzealous fans tell you you're hating?

OTOH, "he's a phony, he's only in it for the money and he doesn't care about fans" is not legitimate unless you're absolutely sure it's true. You can't just spread rumours about others and expect no consequences.

Ironic statement, because growing up is also understanding how people behave, and this is how people behave.

You're basically saying "ok people, stop being people now!".

I personally don't care about day9 one way or the other. What I'm saying is that a large portion of the community has deified day9 and made it impossible for anyone to criticize him. Now that someone important said something critical of him, all the people who have, for a long time, been unable to express their dislike now have their opportunity to do so. They are likely expressing it more venomously than they need to because historically any legitimate criticism has been met with stupid retorts like "haters gonna hate."

People on /v/ have hated day9 for a long time. You see it crop up on reddit from time to time. That many people here have posted "how could anyone not like day9" is proof enough of the delusion some of his fans suffer from.

90% of criticism towards public figures on the internet (not just in eSports) is either unjustified or completely unacceptable in its tone. Day9 just had enough fans who were willing to point it out.

They are likely expressing it more venomously than they need to because historically any legitimate criticism has been met with stupid retorts like "haters gonna hate."

I honestly think you are giving some people too much credit. Many are simply doing it because they have a psychological need to say bad things about successful people or especially people who seem to receive more attention and appreciation than they do. These kinds of people do exist and they are fairly common too.

Which is why "haters gonna hate" is an acceptable retort. It's an efficient way to deal with them. Of course this makes them even angrier but that doesn't mean you're somehow responsible for their anger.

People who don't like you don't need to be "dealt with."

Honestly, we just need anti-fan clubs. There is currently no outlet available for someone to express their dislike for something. If they do it in a post, they get flamed, banned, or downvoted. If they make a shitty thread, it gets closed. If you want to hate something, you have to do what I do and write a 3000 word blog post, otherwise you are removed from the discussion. So we get shit like this where everyone has a communal venting of hate and it makes everything shitty for everyone else.

We need designated hate zones.

I thought reddit already qualified
But seriously, I disagree (for TL at least). I preferred people were nice to each other, criticised with the intention to improve and kept personal attacks to a minimum.

If you think something is so terrible, it's beyond hope, I don't care.

The best way to shield yourself from hate is to NOT READ THE FUCKING REDDIT COMMENTS.

LET ME MAKE THAT CLEAR: DONT READ REDDIT COMMENTS!

Ok, so now you know. There are so many angry nerds with complicated, often hateful opinions spewing from that site. For your own mental health, it isnt worth reading!

I find TL readable because the real assholes get banned immediately. I also find a great deal of TL to be unreadable, but hey thats just me. (general forum im looking @ you)

I offered day9 a fat ass blunt at NASL Season 1, and was very sad when he refused it.

But if we don't hate at each other all the time, then this scene would be boring and all the sponsors will pull out! Who wants to be in an environment where we only say nice things to each other? Ewwww.

i have a theory. it's a somewhat rude theory but i think it's true. compared to other spectator sports sc2 has a disproportionate amount of coverage of community figure's/player's personal opinions and aspects of their lives, which opens up a HUGE potential for the kind of hate you talked about. now why is the coverage skewed in this way? i think it's because the average sc2 fan are lonely nerds who lack social lives and are looking to sc2 to make up for it. they thrive on hateful rumors and discord amoung players, much like the way lonely housewives sit in front of a tv all day eating up celebrity drama. this would also explain why their interactions (mostly reddit "pitchforking") are so illogical/bm.

tldr: sc2 fans are socially awkward assholes

Dunno,, but this actually makes sense

I'm pretty sure the apathetic misanthropes who populate basements do not care about someone saying nigger. You're just both stupid
