Hi!

As you may or may not know, I did an opening day english restream with Sayle. I know my casting was not the greatest, especially towards the end, so I'm making this blog just to get some concise, sensible feedback. You can provide feedback for Sayle as well if you like, but I don't know if he will care/read it, I created this mostly for myself.
Things I know that I did wrong:
- interrupting sayle a bit too much
- making a comment about korean players being hard to distinguish that may have been considered racist

Feel free to point out anything, but try to be constructive - I definitely know it wasn't perfect heh. I may be doing more in the future with a conscious effort to improve, I really enjoyed the BW/SC2 PL. I think I'd actually be able to keep energy up for one three hour match rather than a nine hour marathon (for me).

VOD can be found here. http://www.twitch.tv/saylesc/b/318782838 First match starts at around the 32 minute mark.

I was with you for most of the day and I was very impressed. After all, commenting for that long a time isn't an easy task. I think you did very well, and I'll be sure to tune in to your stream if you/Sayle decide to restream another day of PL some time!

i was watching the korean stream, but i'll try to catch some of your vods and comment - although giving timings for when games start would be a useful addition rather than making educated guesses for where in the 11 hour vod I should cut to

You should defiantly let Sayle speak as you constantly kept on talking over him and the translator. Try to be quiet and respect when someone else is speaking and when you see that you can add something just let them finish their point first but you will learn this as you cast more!!! Overall it was enjoyable I watched the whole thing <3

I enjoyed this exciting day very much (even I was too tired to be awake the whole time). You two made a hell of a job with casting such a long time. I hope to hear soon from you.

One thing I have to say is: With games this difficult to interprate it would be nice if you would have gone something into detail about the developement of the games after they were over. It was frustrating to see all favorites (more or less) crash and burn like this and P dominating all the helpless guys that did not know how to react, decide or attack (vs sentries) accordingly. Hotbid wrote something about this on his blog but still I am afraid of the next weeks and fear for poor depressed JD
Even if I know that it is not your duty to do so (you really put so much work into this) it would be nice to make the scary situation less scary by talking about the games and the development.

I was too tired to watch the last two matches so I'm not going to criticise you for dropping off at the end

I really liked the fact that you seemed to be genuinely excited about the games. Not only is it ok to be hyped, I think it should be required.

I would have liked more basic explanations about strategy. Remember that a decent amount of your viewers know next to nothing about SC2 or BW. For example, I don't remember you explaining BW muta micro or magic boxing in SC2.

Finally, I want to say thanks. This is the most fun I had watching starcraft in a long time. I'm definitely tuning in next time.

I think you did fine, you and Sayle were obviously trying to give SC2 people some degree of insight when the BW matches were playing, and vice versa. I really liked your excitement level throughout the night, which must be really hard.

I tuned in only for the third series (Khan-Ace), so maybe you were already dead tired at that point. So I am a bit biased in the feedback.
Pros: good analysis, enthusiasm casting the matches, explaining "nooby" things for first time watchers, knowing most of the players and their history
Cons: don't interrupt the translator or Sayle if they have important things to say, don't complain about your stream sound and the lack of viewers on you stream (it makes you look really bad -,-), in general keep a positive mindset and don't let external factors pull you down
So keep up the good work and try to improve as you cast more. ^^

Yeah, third series was my last one. I was literally zoning out and babbling random stuff every few minutes in the latter half of the third series, occasionally coming to focus and saying something intelligent

lmao, I saw Flash get in the booth but fell asleep before the match started.

But I thought you were great. I wouldn't mind if you guys were to become OGN or GSL casters.

If I understand you two don't work together that often or it was your first time? If that's true then the chemistry or the interruptions will limit themselves as you get a better feel for each other.

Considering that even the OGN casters were on rotation after each series, you did an ok job.

Yeah, as for feedback from me it's pretty much what you already know: don't talk over people, don't mess around with PMs on stream (it encourages trolls, meaning you get loads of PMs and spend more and more time checking), and I totally didn't find that joke about Koreans funny at all. I dunno, maybe someone did, but it sounded like Sayle and the translator really didn't see the funny side, and I feel like that might be the case for a lot of people. Better to make humour in other ways, IMO.

I'd say you did OK overall; just in the future, I'd focus more on analysing and try to stop yourself with play-by-play. Without any offence meant, your voice doesn't work well for play-by-play in my opinion; Sayle's does. Your skills, if you want to keep casting, lie in in-depth analysis of situations. Again, just in my opinion.

All that said, I have a weird thank you: I was trying to sleep during the BW for KT/CJ and wake up for the SC2. I missed the first game of SC2 and I heard you shouting "FLASH FLASH FLASH" which woke me up in time for the rest of the games. So, thanks for being a good alarm clock.

I don't think you have the voice for casting, but you do have good game knowledge.

I don't know anything about SC2, and watching several hours of the stream taught me next to nothing. I needed some game knowledge. I would have liked explanations of what each player tried to do with their build, how what they did differed from the standard styles of play, what they could have improved on, and I guess since they're new - how well they played.

That said, it's not like you need to stay serious all the time (not like there's any possible way you can do that if you're co-casting with Sayle). The fair amount of complaints about the shitty casting on Sayle's chat were probably from you two not talking about the games at hand much I think.

Nice job though. Things like learning when to let Sayle speak and when to speak up yourself will come with practice.

One small comment I have is that I don't think you should be manning the thread and casting at the same time. You seemed to get detracted a lot of the time, forgetting to update the OP or interrupting the cast to mention that you didn't update the OP.

Yea my small comment would be similar to this. I didn't really like the need to constantly say certain things, like "oh i need to update x". Also the trying to read korean bit every chance kind of annoyed me, mostly because it didn't add anything to the cast and there was also a korean translator there for a lot of it.
