I just got a hole in one (golf)! Here are the details:

  • Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course
  • Hole #3
  • ~130 yards
  • 8 Iron (taylormade r7)
  • Very uphill (the green is on top of a tiny mountain)
  • Very cold (40F/4.4C)
  • Breezy

Grats man.

I'm guessing most golfers don't even get to experience that.

I have to post this one though, (courtesy of Hot_Bid's twitter):

Yea as I said it's a big hill so you add a club. I landed the ball a bit behind the hole and it came back down the slope of the green and rolled into the cup (I didn't believe it until I saw the ball in the hole).

Whats there to understand get the ball in the hole in the fewest shots possible.

It can be boring to watch but it can be very satisfying to play. Getting a hole in one is like the ultimate satsifaction you can get even if micronesia has a horendous round the hole in one makes up for it cause he can now say for the rest of his life he hit a hole in one some pros have even never got a hole in one.

It pitched like 1m behind the hole, and slowly came back to it =) I remember holding my breath the whole time, but man, this was the most excited I've ever been in my life ^^ I called everybody I know that day, just to brag ^^ That was the 17th hole btw, and i ended up doing a triple bogey on the last one

Nice! Yeah, same with me... it landed a couple of yards past the whole and slowly came back. It was a little hard to see due to the hill though and I didn't think it had actually gone in until I went up and looked.

I first started screwing around when I was about 12, so on and off for 14 years.

Only about 2 years ago did I start taking it seriously enough to take some lessons and get some decent equipment though.

Haha yea. I once saw a mulligan hole in one on a 200 yard hole.

Congrats man, not many people shoot a hole in one in their lifetime! I remember I almost shit a brick when I made my first birdie via a chip in, but I can't see myself making a hole and one and not like... screaming and running around the course waving my polo shirt around. What was your reaction? Or since it was on a hill could you see that it went in from the teebox?

It appeared like it had gone in but my vision was very poor due to the hill. The guy next to me was pretty sure it had gone in, so the whole time I was waiting to approach the green I was mentally preparing myself. When it was in there I was excited, but didn't completely lose my composure. If it had hit me all at once I probably woulda freaked out.

Something interesting about the experience of getting a hole in one: when you walk across the green and approach the cup to get the ball, you get this feeling like the tee isn't actually as far away from the green as you used to think.

Dude, awesome! Congrats I've been playing for about 10 years and have had probably a dozen lip-outs or shots within half a foot, so it's still eluding me (although I've holed out from the fairway on a par4 for eagle 3 different times.. kind of a hole in one =p) Totally jealous!

Hmm, I thought you would use forged clubs because from what I read, you're pretty good at golf.

I'm not that good at golf haha.

Don't let the hole in one mislead you!

I use regular r7's.

What's your height/handicap? 130 seems rather short for a 8 iron. Assuming it was a full swing?

Great job on the hole in one, I've hit the flagstick multiple times in competition but never hole in one : / Holed out some pitches though.

Nice! I've only been golfing once, and that was when I was really into Mario Golf:Toadstool Tour. Needless to say that despite no previous experience, on my first try I got the ball to the green, like 3 meters away from the hole. Both me and my dad were speechless for about a minute in disbelief. But that was the only thing that made that trip memorable: after that, everything went terribly (i.e. either I wasn't even able to hit the ball or my club would only glance it causing it to fly maybe 10-20 yards). It was quite a good feeling though, maybe I'll try golfing some more in the future.

The hole was rated 133. It was up a big hill, which makes it more like 140? It was cold, which makes it more like 145? And I hit it up rather high, which sucked away a few yards. It also landed behind the hole and then came back.

It really wasn't a short shot for an 8 iron.

The day i get a hole in one. I will probably be promptly kicked off the golf course for yelling to loudly and incoherently. But congratulations none the less, its really crazy how hole in ones work, my friends father has been playing for like 20 years and hes never gotten a hole in on and he is really REALLY good. But his son (my friend) got one when we went out a few years ago i think we were like 17-18 and pretty mediocre players haha

There are some good players out there (non-competitive players) who hits 140~150 yards with 7 iron, and still score amazingly well.

Though that is not always the case
