It made me want to try the game just as much then as it does now =D As for the second person, in game reviews I don't think it's awful at all. I agree with you when you say it feels really natural - especially in this kind of writing I wouldn't worry about it at all. Your writing lends itself really well to the second person.

FreshNoThyme United States356 Posts March 19 2012 22:11 GMT #3 The reason it is "looked down upon" is because when the writer addresses the reader, saying things like "and you get the sense that something scary is about to happen" (just a random example), it presumes knowledge and makes assumptions about the reader. It is either the writer's response or the response he predicts the audience will have to something, but it is faulty because it is still just an assumption. Instead, saying "and one gets the sense that something scary is about to happen" implies the same thing, but it does not directly target the individual. It is just a mental game of sorts that you learn to avoid early on when studying English extensively. If the "you" comments are indeed based completely in fact (i.e. "You and your companion do x and y"), then it is completely fine. In this case, the writer is not making assumptions. That is an appropriate usage; it would read awkwardly any other way.

Sablar Sweden880 Posts March 19 2012 22:41 GMT #4 Agree with above. "You" is fine when describing how the game works, but not for opinions about how it works like "And yet you'll stand there, and wait". I wouldn't mind first person for the latter in a review. But I'm no writer.
