There has already been much grieving but I thought I would share my sadness with the rest of you. This is about something special to me and something special to probably most of you reading this blog. It's something that came and went over the course of many years, and held so many memories i'm sure all of us will remember them for the rest of our lives. This is the sadness that comes when something starts to die. And this something that we know of is our forever loving Brood War.
Now, i'm aware that the pro scene is still living and theres still players on ICCUP,fish, brain, etc. but it's just not the same. Imagine yourself about 5 years ago when the pro BW scene was what TL was about! It's something everyone raved about and something everyone cherished. It brought amazing times to us all and I wish that could all come back I want to relive BoxeR playing at his greatest, pwning up the masses with his emperorish Terran godliness afoot. I want to relive how titles passed from one great legend to the next and how at times people were thought unbeatable. I know Starcraft 2 is still young and is just starting out, but it's still not the same as BW. Although I do like Starcraft 2 and still do remain involved playing and in the community/pro scene, I want to go back atleast 5 years. I want to see today's Starcraft 2 pros like IdrA and iNcontroL playing again (plus I would love to see Greg go back to Terran ;D ). But sadly this isn't going to happen
What I wish would happen is one day some Starcraft 2 professionals will stream themselves going back and playing some BW. Just watching them go back and playing the great game we all love. It really hit me today how much I miss those times and I even hoped back on ICCUP today to play about 5 games. I see Starcraft 2 with a big future but I doubt it can live up to the expectations we all know as Brood War.
Sorry for all of my QQ'ing but when something is as big of an impact on you such as BW was to all of us, it takes a toll on you about how great those times were and how much you wish they would come back. So here's to Brood War and the hoping great future of Starcraft 2

I didn't play anything past my nintendo/xbox up until 3 years ago. I didn't know broodwar had a proscene at all. I never actually played the game because at first sight, it was just a bad game to me. I was comparing my experience to Warcraft 3, with no knowledge of a pro-scene at all.
Considering how great people think of BW, I wish I was around to witness and revel in the glory. But yes, here's to SC2 having a great future. I get legitimately excited during high level SC2 matches (Below S class is kind of boring I'll be honest) and maybe one day I can talk with a broodwar fan without any wall between us just because we like different games.

I'm sorry for your loss.
No sarc, for reals.

I realized something changed in my behavior with vods. Earlier I would have watched the whole set and enjoy every bit of it. Now I just watch the games from my two / three favorite players (fantasy, jaedong). And if they are too long, or tvt or zvz I don't really watch them either...
One epic tournamet was TSL 2 as well though. At that time I was moving and always went back to the neighbour city only to download the vods

The community isn't.

I wish I had picked up StarCraft before 2009. I missed so much. Yet even because of the small glimpse I got of it, the little time I experienced it, I'm sad that it's going to die.
I wouldn't mind getting on board late if it wasn't for Brood War dying on me. We had foreigners going to Korea to play on pro teams, we had lots of foreigner tournaments (somewhat major ones, too). ESL, Valor, TSL, and more. We had high level streamers like NonY and Ret.
It's just not the same anymore, and never will be. MBC game is gone, no foreigners are going to Korea to play on pro teams, and we have fewer tournaments with smaller prize pools and lower skill level.

The legacy will never die!

Man, what you said in OP describes the feeling I get when I reminisce about BW maybe once every couple weeks or so. I believe the prime and most interesting years for the foreign scene were roughly 2004-2007ish. Good times with a very tight knit and respectful (relatively speaking) community. I feel your nostalgia 100%.
I remember closer to the end of that era just sitting in the Keepers channel with HuK and chatting and messing around doing a few 1v1 and team games because we'd be the only two on at the time. Just seeing who could cheese eachother the hardest. Little did I know he'd explode once sc2 hit. Giving BM and taking a lot more BM from the over-arrogant guys in x-17, the friendly but intense [LighT] vs 88) rivalry, chilling with the HeRoS) guys, and trying your hardest at wgt and pgt (screw ICCUP, thats new-school)... haha lol. Messing around with stats in bwchart, manually reporting ladder games, etc. Man, have things changed.
Be proud you experienced and lived through it. No other generation of gamers will have such a great experience like the game BW gave us, and nothing can be quite the same as what it was.

I, for one, don't plan on "leaving" the BW community until the end of... the world. I'm sure most of the remaining loyal BW fans feel the same. We know that it's special and it can't be simply replaced. So let's enjoy the content we have (mainly just SPL and some re-broadcasts), and hope for a bright future!
