When it comes to being a fan of teams/players/clubs etc etc, I've traditionally never taken their success or popularity into consideration when it comes to supporting them. When everyone around me were supporting Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid a few years back, I was supporting Inter Milan. I was a fan of Roberto Baggio when everyone was crazy about Ronaldo (not Cristiano Ronaldo), Zidane and Beckham. Heard of nikolay davydenko? Well, I used to be a fan of him. While everyone is listening to katy perry/david guetta/justin bieber/LMFAO/Maroon 5/blah blah blah, guess who's my favourite all time band (by far)? Keane.

So it wasn't any different when it came to starcraft 2. I wasn't a fan of MMA. No MVP for me. MC? Nestea? Hell no. Probably the best player I've ever been a fan of (and I still remain a fan) is Polt. I like players who are creative and are really really good with micro and multitasking.

There's just a problem. They aren't winners. They never win anything.

After watching one of my favourite players bomb out of the group stage at the IEM world championships yesterday, I was terribly disappointed. He still wasn't technically eliminated right down to his last group game, but it was out of his hands. I really don't want to name names here. I felt the exact same way a guy would feel when his constantly-cheating girlfriend, whom he forgave many many times, promises him she wouldn't cheat again, giving him a slight ray of hope that it might actually be true, only to realize, no way in hell would that happen.

Let me just point out the FACT that many of these players are in NO WAY untalented. They could do SO MUCH BETTER than this if they wanted to, and tried harder and played smarter, but ah well, its their lives. Who am I to care? Why should anyone care about a singular Starcraft 2 fan who isn't even that good in Starcraft 2 and still plays Starcraft 2 when everyone around him has moved on to other games? Why do I even BOTHER with someone who I don't even know personally. All I know is that if I had immense talent in something and I know it, I would totally make FULL use of it to the MAX and try my ultimate best to do as well as I can. SO MANY PEOPLE would give ANYTHING to be in their position and yet, AT LEAST to me, they don't seem to be working as hard as they should be.

Sigh.

I'm through with supporting losers. I'm through with hoping against hope. Some people never change.

I hate it when people take their talent for granted.

This is exactly how I gave up on Nestea
lol. He was just playing like a crazy person for several months on end.

to even compare that to a guy loosing in starcraft... guess u never experienced a girl cheating on u.

Anyways. A true fan doesn't give up on their team/player/whatever just because they/he/she looses... So lucky Polt i guess, for loosing a "fan"

Being a fan of an elite player/team is allways more painfull then being a fan of a mediocre player/team. Almost no wins give any joy (only them winning the big trophies matters) and all losses hurts like hell when supporting the elite. Almost all wins give great joy and losses doesn't sting as much when you support mediocre players/teams. It all have to do with expectations.

I think you're more like a wife that gets beaten and keeps going back to her abusive husband. You chose a loser and you can't seem to admit to yourself that he'll never change, because it would be a hit to your own ego to admit you chose really badly.

If a player really was creative and that's why you liked him or her, you would only get mad if they stopped being creative. When I watched Kwanro I knew very well that he was never going to win anything, but I liked his play style and he made for fun games. The same with Upmagic. The thing that makes them great is they don't even need to win championships to make the game interesting.

Oh Kwanro... probably one of the greatest game throwers in the history of BW. I'll never forget that one game where he basically had the game won but he threw it so hard because he kept funneling ultraling down a choke because he didn't use defilers. This was one of the earlier games, not the recent and famous Flash one.

Well imagine how we Oz fans felt all the time. I fail to understand why you are so upset. Either you're a fan or you're not. It's not about success.

This is a terrible analogy. When your girlfriend is constantly cheating on you, she is purposefully or knowingly disrespecting and hurting you on a personal level, or consciously disregarding the weight and magnitude of her disrespect for you. There is a much larger level of betrayel and hurt when someone you personally know does something that affects only you. These two things are totally non-analogous.

The Flash one you're thinking of is Zero I'm pretty sure. Kwanro has been retired a long time. Flash is on 2 base and Zero is on like 8 bases, and flash just kills one base after the next with a massive heap of tanks which Zero never thinks to build mutalisks against? (before it was conventional to use broodling).

edit: damn I kind find it to double check... It might not have been while kwanro was retired, but I was pretty sure it was Zero... On a badlands or jungle map with 12 3 6 9 spawns, which was used in TSL2 too..

Ok... this map... http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/maps/240_Roadrunner I got confused in my linking somehow.

And you were right, it is kwanro. I am dumb http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/korean/games/36209_Flash_vs_Kwanro/vod

if someone winning is part of the important reason you support them..then find someone new to support.

however, personally, if that's a qualifier for you to be a fan of them, i genuinely think you're a shit fan.

I can't help but notice that's the second blog in a row when you just go on a -very random- rant about random things that OTHER people should or shouldn't do.

How comes.

There's a french saying, which I hold in very high value, while it doesn't have any value per se, more on that later and less comas for now : "Chacun voit midi à sa porte". Which means, everyone sees the world through his own eyes.

Given what I skimmed through, the world you're actually seeing is full of negativity. I think you should seek the source of that, instead of nourishing random spiteful thoughts about a nebulous "other people" notion.

Make your eyes see the beautiful things in this world again. Life's short.

Edit : read a bit more : go exploit your personal talent and do work hard to achieve, this time!

It's easy to cheer for a winner... as a long time Detroit Lions fan (only NFL team to go 0-16) I know it's a LOT harder to cheer for a loser. However nothing beats seeing your long time underdog win!

I'm a lifetime Stork fan. I've been there when he racked up an insane number of silvers. I've been there when he finally claimed a gold at Incruit 2008. It doesn't matter whether he wins or loses, I just think he's an awesome player with the coolest attitude and the honesty of Abe Lincoln.

I'm still a Stork fan, and I'll be his fan until the end of his career. Go Stork!

I was about to scroll to the bottom and type "then stop supporting in rank games newbbb?"

And then I realized that this was something different.

Also, Davydenko was bad.

You sound like the ultimate hipster. And not to mention a complete arsehole if I'm being blunt.
"I'm through with supporting losers. I'm through with hoping against hope. Some people never change.

Really? You're going to sit behind your computer screen and criticise others for failing at one of the highest levels? What have you done? What have you accomplished? Yet you're complaining like simply being a spectator of a sport gives you the right to criticise people who have put hours, days, weeks, months, years of effort and hard work into honing their craft and getting to a point where they can compete with the best in the world.
Don't turn your nose up at people who may have accomplished more than you have, or ever will.

You're what we call a fair weather fan. You're only a fan when the weather is fair, but when the whether is rough you run away and try to find fair weather again. So technically you're not a fan of a player, you're a fan of winning. Just go find someone else who is winning and become their fan.

I've been a fan of Gumiho since 2010, he is quite creative and fun to watch. He nearly made it to finals already, so there's one example of a creative player doing well.

Who cares about winners, it doesn't take any flair to be a winner.

e. In BW, NalRa, Yellow, Reach and Boxer were fan favorites for years after they were past their primes, and it was 100% not just for the nostalgia but the distinctive styles, strengths and weakness.

i thought this was going to be about idra when i saw title, but it was not. i am sick of watching my favorite players lose as well (idra, white-ra, nony, sen), but when they do come back and kick ass, it will be worth the wait.
