On my Asus ROG laptop. Why is that you ask? I just got it back tonight after a 2+ week long RMA process. I booted it up only to fine newer problems that didn't exist before. I think I can fix it myself, because I believe the immediate problem is probably trivial, with a possible more long term issue, but doing so voids my warranty and tbh I don't want to do that on a 7 month old laptop.

So, my option is then to RMA it again, in another 2+ week long period. I asked if there were any way I could get expedited shipping or something on it to speed up the process, since I intend to go to the CSL lan in 2 weeks (would be leaving home on Thursday, so would prefer to receive it on Wednesday night.... though Thursday night could also work). Sure, I can get expedited shipping. If I want to pay a hundred something dollars for it. Yea....

Seriously, if you're going to send a laptop back to a customer after a lengthy RMA process, at least make sure it doesn't have batshit obvious problems like a screen that doesn't work or produces fuzz (possible fan bearing problem as well that was immediately noticeable). Especially when your records can tell you that I am going to have to RMA this with literally 0 day downtime between the two RMA processes if I want this fixed in a non-warranty voiding way. It's going to end up being an RMA process greater than a month in length.

I think I'm going to get an MSI notebook next time I want a high performance notebook. I actually only heard of them because of their sponsorship of Fnatic, but from what I read their notebooks are pretty good. Asus ROG laptops have horrid thermal paste issues anyways so why not. Good performance for the price but the thermal issues are really turning me off, so I don't mind paying $100 more for the same performance.

+ Show Spoiler [for the problem theorists] +

1. It's not a software issue. I reinstalled the driver and then reformatted the entire hard drive when that didn't fix it. It could be a terribly annoying BIOS hook I suppose but I mean, what are the chances haha.

2. No they don't have any local partnerships so I can get this probably trivial cable connection issue checked without RMA'ing it back to them or voiding my warranty. The closest location is over 9 hours away by car (I live in Raleigh, NC so it's not like I live in the middle of nowhere...)

I do apologize for the sensationalist blog title

Assembly sucking would be pretty shocking. Bad customer service is pretty routine and boring I guess =(

From my experience, DELL desktops and notebooks are usually the least that show issues amidst the pre-made computorz. But DELL isn't supporting e-sports *throws notebook away* ASUS FTW! You didn't describe the problem very well tough, you said what it might be or how you could possibly fix it, but you never said exactly what was it.

Well if you want the exact symptoms:

Recall the black screen with small white rectangles at the left side which appear whilst installing new video drivers. I either have a completely black screen or I have a modified version of that, with bigger white rectangles. However, the external monitor works perfectly. In fact, my laptop can't even detect the default laptop screen in device manager, which is why I think it's not plugged in. It's not a software issue - first reinstalled video driver, then reformatted entire hard drive.

Another problem - I can hear a slight irregularity in the fan which in my experience comes from a fault in the fan bearing, which will likely become troublesome in a few months, or maybe even longer. Takes a while to propagate to performance-altering levels sometimes.

The VRAM might also be corrupt, occasionally it misplaces polygons. It could be a driver issue, since (now I know this might sound weird) but an average of ~3 wipe-reinstalls of the nvidia driver fixes this issue, only for it to re-appear a couple months later, requiring the same action.

Those are the hardware issues I am aware of atm. Software issues I could hardly care less about since I will just fix those myself ezpz.

edit - Also I don't think the thermal issue was fixed. I'm reinstalling SC2 atm so we'll see soon, but the background operating temperature is mid 50s C atm.... which is not normal.

I'd say to burn it with fire, but apparently there is no need for it. I've never seen artifacting like this lol.

I have an ASUS motherboard in my desktop and has given me nothing but problems..and yeah, their tech support sucks balls.

Ever since I got it, I suffer random freezes and bluescreens, particularly when streaming video...**** knows why.

I've owned two ROG laptops, two plain old ASUS laptops, an ASUS netbook, and several ASUS desktop parts. Literally have never had an issue with any of them that wasn't caused by pouring a cup of coffee directly onto an operating motherboard.

Which has actually happened more than once. By mistake of course.
Maybe I should stop drinking coffee over my open computers.

So you sent it back and they didn't replace the GPU?

Nope, they replaced the fans though! So at least the thermal issues are gone.
