A Low League Perspective: I like Artosis.

Hello everyone, I felt like getting my voice heard tonight and decided to write a blog. Upon pondering what to talk about, between me actually playing, SC2 pro scene, events in my life, or asking people the why behind stuff they do, I was watching the first artosis hour.

Eureka!

So my topic title is fairly boring and most everyone who isn't very pessimistic will say they enjoy artosis as a GSL and MLG caster who streams on the side every once and a while. I like him because of what he does for eSports.

First, he is an excellent caster that gets me excited for GSL Code S. When I watch Code A, I watch to see the up-and-comers and analyze games myself and not hear what the casters have to say usually. Code A almost stands as a standard, in my book, for how players should open and adapt (where Code S is super-metagamey and laddering with any one of those builds for an entire MU can lead to drastically bad results without perfect executions or scouts). Code S, while very good to analyze the tip-top play, is fun to watch. Tastosis is a great pair to get our nerd on and be excited about watching a video game competition. Artosis generally switches from analytic to OMG mode at mostly appropriate times to keep the crowd entertained as well as informed. I believe this is enough said.

What I think is better, though, is that he goes on casting and streaming binges as if he is a progamer himself in Code A. Not only does this up the quality of his own casting but it also brings a much more serious character to those who are in lower leagues, such as myself. Watching the artosis hour I see a template on how to analyze a game objectively, look for ways to out-manuever my opponent, and generally be better as a SC2 gamer. Many rag on him that he isn't the best in-game and that his reads may be off from time to time, but that is true of all non-code S regular players as well.

In essence, he is reverse day[9] in how he is introduced to players. Most newbies get introduced to Day9 through the forums they frequent or what-have-you and immediately see him as a teacher or guide though how to get better at getting better at SC2. Then, they see his pro-casting for MLG, AfterHours, his own channel, etc. When most people are introduced to artosis, he is a caster first with a fun personality and then he "sucks in" the gamers to work harder on their game with his content. Day[9] actively seeks new newbies whereas Artosis just happens to have the fanbase after doing his preliminary job casting.

So take it or leave it, I like who Artosis is for the community, another gate-way into being better themselves while still entertaining tons and tons who may not want that goal for themselves at the moment. He isn't my favorite icon of SC2 (I really like some of the top EU pros best) but he would be someone I mention of my favorite people in SC2/eSports.

Thanks for reading!

Good read . I also prefer Artosis to Day9. In a sense it just seems to many people that day9 is for the casual and newer players. Other than the funday mondays/monobattles I personally can't stand him. However when I first started playing he was insipiring with his newbie tuesdays and analizing pro players. Then I came across D.Apollo's tutorials and casting. If you haven't seen them yet I'd reccomend giving them a shot. The Artosis Hour seems to be the thing everyone was waiting for as a more serious "day9" show for the more serious player. I love it, everyone one that has streamed so far I have learned something.

I'm only a casual fan, but I find Artosis' casting fascinating. People think he's too analytical for the n00bs, but I don't find that at all. I think I'm probably the biggest SC2 n00b there ever is. I don't play the game, at all. I dabbled a bit during the Beta phrase, but that's it. That's all the experience I have with SC2. Yet I find Artosis' casting quite easy to understand, and I love how he can be so emotionally involved.

Love Artosis <3 I think him and Husky would be a dream casting duo for me <3

... i disagree with your comparison of artosis with day9 , if you watch any of his BW dailys, you had to be understanding the game at least at the "code s" level to understand what he was saying. artosis was never as good a bw caster as day9 imo imo imo

too analytical for noobs? but sc2 isn't that hard of a game to understand if you watch enough of it. obviously if you don't play much you wouldn't have the feel for the game, but you if you watch a couple games you should be able to understand what he's saying pretty quickly. Day9 is good for someone who has no experience in RTS and tries to learn the game.
