Time for a new computer? I think so...
I had:
AMD Phenom 950 3.0ghz 125Watt (50*C idle, 60*C load)
Zalman 9700
8GB of DDR2
2x ATI 4870's in Crossfire
2x 320 HDDs
Sennheiser's PC350 Mic
BlackWidow by Razer
I have now:
Intel i7 2600k 3.4ghz 95Watt (30* C idle, 34* C load)
12GB of DDR3 1600
Coolermasters 212 (with an extra fan)
(To come) 2x Nvidia 670s
Blue Yeti Mic
Das Keyboard by...yeah.
Why? Well I'm a caster, i was going to settle for an i5, but streaming and recording is 90% CPU power and thus i needed the hyper threading of the i7. The Zalman i had was the loudest thing in the world. Easily 40dB all the time. The new CM212 is probably 30 tops.
Difference:
Between then and now? Well i don't have my graphics cards yet so I can't go all super fancy...but with the new CPU and RAM? Ugh. . i couldn't stream 720p before... But now i can stream 1080p without even feeling it! It's so nice.
Keyboard:
BlackWidow...was okay. I got into mechanical keyboards with it. It was cool for a little... but it's troublesome. Firmware failed all the time. The spacebar stabilizer broke. The little Razer logo fell off... just...fell off. Wat. I mean, it was an okay keyboard... but so frustrating. The firmware would fail ONCE A WEEK.
The Das...it lives up to its name. It's amazing. It's sturdy. It will last, I can. No wobbly stabilizers. The Browns make everything so much nicer too... much quieter than CherryMX Blues.
On to the mic:
The Sennheiser PC350 is an amazing headset. It's got good monitor quality sound, and the mic isn't too bad for a headset... but I needed higher quality. I have a bit of a boomy voice and thus a headset mic won't catch that. Blue's Yeti is...amazing. I had it since Christmas and it gives such versatility. It has 4 settings to suit whatever need be. I have been using Cardoid setting which is unidirectional. This was useful for me because of my loud zalman fan. Now i can use probably any other setting. The Yeti provides such beautiful quality sound...I can't say it enough. For $100 its worth it if you need quality recording, don't settle for the other Blue mics... spend a little more and get it.

There's no way your idle and load temp difference is 4c with a hyper 212+... unless you massively undervolted the 2600k.
Why would you buy 3x4gb and run in single channel ... or 2x2gb and 2x4gb ??? Why wouldn't you just buy a 4x4gb or 2x8gb kit? -_-

The original computer did run with two dual channels. This one runs triple. I didn't mention the channels... I don't understand why you're making assumptions.
But yeah, the temp difference caught me off guard too but thats what Speedfan was telling me (while streaming 1080p and playing SC2). *shrug* Magic

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I put a 40GB SSD as the main disk with windows. Optimized the heck out of it. Ridiculously quick loading time now. (Only a 40GB'er because my roommate moved up to 120GB and i got it for pretty cheap). He only had it for like month.

LGA1155 is only capable of dual channel and the 2600k is only available for the 1155 socket. Only LGA1366 (which is three years old) and LGA2011 (which is like double the price of 1155) is capable of running triple channel. So no I'm not making assumptions.
Speedfan is rarely accurate. It's better to check with the other billion software such as HWMonitor.

You should probably try a different temperature monitor... speedfan's accuracy is questionable

I agree, Speedfan generally isn't one of the better choices for monitoring temps. HWMonitor is solid as mentioned above, or try Everest if you want a full informational program + temperature readings. Haven't actually loaded up Everest in awhile so I thought I'd check my temps; my ancient Q6600 idles at 42C currently....meh.

Check the temperatures again. Don't use Speedfan, as it's a poor choice for monitoring temps; I'd guess it should be around 50ºC-ish...
I have an AMD Phenom II x6 1100T on watercooling, and its baseline temp is around 32ºC... Under load it goes up to 58ºC. Never seen a CPU working under load going under 50ºC, much less not WCd.

Ne'er to trust speedfan again. (those "current" temps were while streaming and playing sc2 even then its not full load, but neither are my fans going at all full speed. Only 70%)
