if you don't like the cold, go to busan. seoul gets pretty cold during the winter.

since you want to go to korea for the esports scene, incheon would be the better option

I would go with Busan for myself personally because I like the nice weather and beach, but based off his story and the fact he wants to experience the gaming culture first-hand Incheon would be better.

Well as long as you're not totally alone (sparse expat community) Incheon IS much closer to the capitol, why not stop by for some BW too (assuming you're not ethnically Asian, you're guaranteed the spotlight {: ).

incheon all the way. busan is too far from seoul for all the cool things that he'd want to do (not that busan isn't cool itself, because it is, but it's on the other side of the country from seoul)

Incheon is right next to Seoul while Busan is on the other end of the country, and that's all needs to be said.

Depends if the guy likes the cold or not. If he hates the cold, he can always fly in once or twice to Incheon, but if he can stand the cold, then by all means go to the area with the supposed best night life and most gaming. Personally i'd go to Busan but that is because its a beach city and thats just my type of town.

The way it seems is
Do you like or hate the cold? cold = incheon
What will you spend your nights doing? clubbing / gaming = incheon
What are you looking for school wise? depends on what kind of school in which city
What is your pay going to look like? depends on who pays you more
What kind of baggage are you bringing? are you looking for a girlfriend, friends, etc.

With those stated, you just have to pick what you want in a city, job, nightlife, people. etc.

If the alcoholic bit sums you up then please don't come here. Remember you're being paid to come and teach, not to get drunk every day. That aside, Busan seemed pretty nice from what I've seen of it, but it's a pretty long trip to get to most of the core gaming action here (live events, finals, fan meetings etc.) in Seoul. I lived in the far South (albeit in a very small/boring town.) and spent most of my time every weekend trekking up to Seoul to do progaming related things/reporting.

As for hiking and sports - you can do those pretty much anywhere in SK. The older generation here *loves* to go on hikes, so there's plenty of access to well established routes (with lovely scenery in some cases.) If you check Meetup.com and Facebook you'll also be able to find plenty of ex-pat/Korean sports groups to join.
