Putting this rant in a blog because it probably has no place on the SC2 general forum from the mouth of a no-name lurker/poster.

Heres the tl;dr.
Stop with the fucking Drama.

Now for the meat of the post.
My whole life I have avoided such terrible programs on T.V such as Soap Operas and Reality TV, for the sole reason that its full of stupid and often immature drama. I found the Starcraft eSports scene at the end of 2010, from Blizzcon with the Genius vs Loner finals. (Sadly I was never part of the BW scene, although I wish I had been.) I fell in love instantly with the whole idea faster than I've ever fallen in love with anything before. Its a hardcore game, seriously hardcore, played by people who hold it at top priority in their life. Then to make it better it has a massive worldwide community made up of gamers (who are the best people on Earth), and/or passionate fans of the same thing as I am, which is just awesome. I was so amazed that this whole beautiful scene had been existing for so long and I had never ever known about it.

Fast forward a year and a few months, and I'm still deeply in love. I watch so much Starcraft its crazy, I cancelled my Cable because I don't actually watch anything on it any more. When I'm at home if I'm not gaming then I'm watching Starcraft. There are so many good points to the whole thing.

Pros
- An infinite amount of Games which are hugely entertaining.
- A massive community via TL, Twitter and Reddit, giving loads of immediate news updates and discussions about our passions
- Many shows to watch related to the game and scene (ie: Day9 Daily and SOTG)
- I probably missed something but its 2:30am so whatever.

Cons
- My favourite players cant always win (bawww)
- The way people are so fast to create such massive clusterfuck threads full of bullshit about anything. a.k.a: DRAMA. Correction: Unnecessary Drama.

When something happens such as the recent TSL stuff, or the IEM crap, why must everyone start immediately flaming or wildly speculating on the subject so fast, creating the aforementioned massive threads of bullshit which not only makes this scene look pathetic and childish to outsiders, but is also probably a nightmare for the mods of TL to deal with. We barely never have all the details on a controversial piece of news, yet people immediately jump to support Side A or Side B, in the process giving the 'opposing' side a ton of shit for whatever has happened. If Person A did Bad thing X, then Victim B will take the necessary action and Thread of Bullshit C will have little to no bearing on the outcome. The recent TSL stuff is apparently being taken to court, our speculation threads wont mean shit there.

There are some exceptions to angry threads, there is a fine line here. If a tournament is being broadcast and something happens that everyone can see clear as day, thats absolutely pathetic, such as the Gus thing with the PPSL (forgot that tournament name), from a few months ago, where he withheld payments and other shit, then yea. Go for it. Let the hounds loose and tear the people responsible to Hell and back. People need to be accountable for shit like that.
BUT
If someone just randomly CLAIMS that someone did this, or that this happened. We cant immediately jump on board and believe them blindly. I cant believe that with 1 announcement by the TSL coach, people are attacking Fnatic. Seriously? I have no idea who Rekrul is, but his rant at parts of the community is spot on. See "Pot Calling the Kettle Black" in the link below. I cant speak on the information he's released because I quite simply don't know what's right yet.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=304512

Yea anyone attacks me for not knowing who Rekrul is, remember I wasn't in this community before the beginning of 2011 basically. I haven't seen much if anything from him during that time. I don't not know him by choice, I wasn't here what can you do, except build a time machine and let me go back several years to get into eSports way sooner. I could of used more distractions during school and college (lol).

Ok, my 2:30-3am post, lacking any real structure is done. Read, don't, reply, don't. Its cool.

tl;dr: LETS END THE DRAMA!!

I know why its popular, I just find the reason for its popularity to be stupid. I've been to my Sisters house and found her watching a program about women "training" to become models. The program is about them wearing makeup, being late to places and bitching about each other. You telling me that this is a good thing?

Also I wasn't aware anything was meant to be serious. Polls are almost always pointless, which is also why I removed it ^^

End drama???

lol what. Just like Daphreak said, why do you think reality TV is so popular. People soak up drama like a sponge.

If you hate drama so much, I'd get your cable connection back and disconnect your internet, because this kind of thing isn't restricted to TL you know.

people are entertained by other people's drama. the fact that sc2 drama is real, and not made up like reality tv makes it even better. i will admit, i think drama is a waste of time, but i still find myself scanning the drama threads and f5'ing. im an addict. =(

There is plenty of places I go on the internet that are fairly drama free, they certainly don't jump on controversial things as eager as people here do sometimes.
I know that some types of drama are popular, its just a shame to see that some people think giant controversy threads full of wild speculation and people angrily siding with X person or X organisation with a terrible lack of information are good things.
Oh well.

Reality TV is popular because the average person is a fucking idiot. As a community of above-average intelligence, I would hope we can be a little more sophisticated. Unfortunately, the massive influx of people SC2 brought sort of precludes that from happening.

Obviously it's fine to love drama, but if you're a fan of Starcraft, the drama you love should be the in-game tension between players and their respective armies, or possibly long-standing rivalries between players, NOT flipping your shit every time a player leaves a team or a caster makes a mistake or something goes wrong at a venue. Starcraft is already dramatic -- it's a fast-paced war game, for god's sake. There's no need to latch on to soap-opera-level drama when already have the game itself.

You know, TL still has (most) of it's posts still readable. Just dig a bit.. We need some kind of "history of TL" course.

You want real drama overload, I've been watching korean dramas for like 5-8 a day. Skipped all my classes too -.-;;
Sorry, I thought this blog would be about kdramas for some reason. Dunno why :/

Just going to add that I watch some drama programs. Such as House and Dexter. Scripted and well written drama.
The drama that happens on forums and reddit is ridiculous. Its not productive or beneficial to anyone in any way.

But anyway now that SOTG is over.. bed. I don't always argue that well at 3am. I will no doubt find about 500 grammar errors and/or parts that make no sense in my OP when I check tomorrow morning.
Peace Liquiders.

i consider myself above-average intelligence, and as stated above, i find the drama entertaining. i think its blown out of proportion and a ridiculous waste of time, but it still amuses me. i dont watch reality tv though because it is fake. however, real life drama is interesting. another reason why facebook is popular; people like to watch other people's lives.

I have to say I don't think it's all that hard to avoid the drama posts. Just ignore them and after a while it gets resolved and it's over. Personally, I'm interested in this TSL business but didn't really care about the PPSL situation, so I didn't feel the need to actually read all the posts about it.

Besides, drama is inevitable in any group of human beings, whether tiny middle school cliques or an entire country's political system. People just disagree.

People kick up drama because they're truly passionate about Starcraft 2, whether it's about actual games, management of teams, the running of tournaments, and so on. I don't like all this drama myself, but nothing's preventing us from simply ignoring it and participating in other threads and topics instead, right?

As for why people immediately speculate on a subject so fast, I don't have an answer for that, but I can say that wanting to stop any sort of speculation whatsoever about a subject goes against the entire purpose of a forum. We're supposed to discuss whatever we're given, and who's to say that even after we're supposedly given both sides of the argument the truth in it's entirety has been told? We simply make do with what we know at the moment, and if what we've been told is wrong or missing out in more details then a counterargument from the opposing party will be given eventually; that's how debates work, both socially and legally. Saying that we shouldn't discuss something even after it's already being taken to court is contradictory; the nature of a court proceeding in itself is about discussion and forming a consensus from what you're given, just like a forum.

Speculation, I believe, is all good. Discussion is good. Attacking a person (or company) based off a gut reaction isn't. We should be demanding responses from people that are supposedly in the wrong, not just bashing and flaming them into oblivion. That's what the majority of TL does; they stay quiet in wait of an actual response before they post. Now someone might say "what right do you have to demand anything from anyone?". Well, we're the people who drive the ESPORTS industry. We're the one's watching the ads and seeing the sponsors. We might not be pro-gamers, or casters, or personalities, but we're the ones that corporations truly care about, not anyone else. We have a right to demand a response from an organization of individual, because if they don't, they lose the support of us, the mass viewers. And that is something more important than anything else in ESPORTS. Am I incredibly obnoxious? Yeah, obviously. But that doesn't make what I say any less true.

As a side note, if you look at most threads, the amount of individual accounts posting is at max in the hundreds? That's nothing compared to the total userbase of TL. It sucks that the entire forum gets represented by the tiny, vocal, retarded minority, but that's just how it goes.

tl;dr we shouldn't end the drama, but we should end the way we approach it. discuss more, demand responses more, flame and bash less.

Because there's a fairly high density of nerds (starcraft is a thinker's game).

This is an internet discussion forum. People are allowed to voice their opinions, and it's inevitable that arguments and disagreements will arise and the community will want to take part in those discussions. Sometimes those discussions lead to constructive solutions, usually they do not. But we shouldn't try to stop them since this is a community site in the first place.

That being said, I do think that famous players/organizations should think through their accusations or claims more carefully before posting, and not just incite drama for personal gain. But if it really bothers you so much, then just stop reading the forums.

And honestly I'm of the opinion that TL has a relatively cool-headed and intelligent community compared to other sites.
