1. Sorry, but five pounds can be attributed to water weight or day-to-day fluctuations when you're dealing with 300+ lbs
2. Drop cardio and just weight-lift by benching, squatting, and deadlifting. You're not going to lose any significant weight with cardio, whereas weight-lifting will drastically destroy calories faster per minute than running will.
3. Diet is huge. At least start out by cutting soda, alcohol, or other sugary drinks like milkshakes.
4. Check out this girl's progress with just weight-lifting (and no cardio) in just 6 months.

^ i don't want to advocate compound lifting too much outside of a few threads under TLHF (comes off as pushy), but yea, that's some serious results

it's actually surprisingly easy to achieve similar results with a good program and a decent diet

Hm, I'm not a health expert or anything, but I've heard going on diets isn't that good unless it's a change that you keep forever and that you just gain it back when you get off it. I think going with small, maintainable changes might be for the best. Good luck though, if you can keep this up for a few months it'll just become like a habit and you'll be set.

I think the 5 pound thing is a trap you need to be aware of more than something to congratulate yourself for. I know I do it so many times. I start to eat good for a week and start to feel like I have accomplished something and reward myself when the truth is I have barely even begun

I'm going to join you. I went from 265 to 195 about 5 years ago. Then you get lazy, and I'm back up to 240. Back then my inspiration was a bunch of assholes at school. With a nice girlfriend, and a decent job, I'm relying on you to be my inspiration this time!

Just stay in it. Even though you fall of once in a while, hard work and effort will cause you to lose weight and get healthier. And remember, once you hit the "I can't lose anymore weight because muscles are heavier than fat"-wall, excercise will still make you healthier...
