EPTWelcome to the first entry in a series of blogs I've, in my infinite wittiness, decided to call From Gold to Gosu. Originally I was going to call it from gold to masters, or a slightly less ambitious from gold to diamond. However I decided that those names focused too much on the results rather than the actual goal of this endeavor, which is to play more Starcraft II this year and focus on my own improvements.
The purpose of this blog, as well as the accompanying youtube video each week, is to provide a commitment each week that forces me to play each week. Right now, the blog will summarize how things have been going as well as what I will work on next. The video each week will simply be me casting/commentating over two games (usually at x2). One game that shows (hopefully) improvement in what I was working on the previous week and one that highlights what I need to work on for the following week. If I get good enough that working on specific builds etc becomes where I need the most work I may cast some games of Pro's doing the builds I wish to work on. However, for now I really just need to work on the fundamentals.
Time for a little bio. First, as far as SC2 goes I've been playing since the beta and wasn't actually that terrible (mid to low diamond when diamond was all there was) but since the game has released I've had less and less time to play and that combined with a bit of ladder nerves caused me to play much less than I should. Each season I've decayed in laddering from diamond down to plat for a few seasons and with this last reset my MMR must have decayed to the point where I placed into gold.
This new season coincided with the new year and with that, I decided it was time to stop the slow fall to the lesser precious metals and begin improving. If you want to follow along with the process there are a few ways to do so.
