So I woke up today, totally expecting this to be another day of work, I work at the Marble Slab Creamery in downtown Toronto, and I'm also an avid StarCraft 2 fan.
So I heard Huk was coming down to the Eaton Centre around 3 p.m. and I had a shift but I wanted to come meet one of my favourite Starcraft players, and jumped at the chance to take my break and hope to have my mouse pad signed.
I have been encouraging the owner of our store to play and enjoy Starcraft and I brought him along to come get stuff signed with me. I figured there would be 50-75 people tops and no issues at all, I'd just go back to work and I would have my mouse pad signed and life would be dandy. Apparently, that wasn't what the future had in store.
So apparently Toronto loves Starcraft. We ended up with a ton of people wanting pictures with Huk and autographs, and basically the world exploded at the Eaton Centre in front of EB games, we had security asking us to move because we were blocking washrooms and storefronts. EB games tried to accommodate Huk, but there wasn't really anything set in stone about what was going to 'occur'. So my boss takes it upon himself to help these guys out, and offers the use of our storefront so that Huk could sign everything and we ended up giving out free ice cream to anyone who had came to see Huk.
It was totally epic, Huk is such a cool dude in person and I was so thankful to meet him. I hope that everyone had a blast and I am so thankful that we could help out Huk with all his signing!
P.S. I originally had planned to buy Huk an ice cream, so that my girl friend could meet him! Little did she know, we brought the whole party to her! She works there too, and when the whole crowd walked in with Huk at the lead she freaked out!~
P.P.S. To Huk, if you read this, I really had a blast and hope that we made your day easier for you, I know that you volunteered your time to come out and see the fans and that the Toronto community really showed that it appreciated what you did for them. I hope what the owner, Ryan, and I did, didn't come off as appearing like we were taking advantage of you for business. We are both genuine fans of yours and of Starcraft 2, and don't want you to think that we did what we did to turn a profit.
P.P.P.S. To MLG, I think this helps you to commit to the possibility of a MLG in Canada, there is clear want and community that would love to get more Starcraft action sent our way!

I don't think the game ended up happening to many fans, and Huk also had previous engagements in Cambridge I believe.

I met this awesome employee in the lineup today with his Razor mousepad. Props man. You, your boss and HuK are Toronto's heroes right now. In the background of a few of the photos is a member of Team fem-FX that I got into a great conversation with. Best trip to Toronto EVER!
MLG WE WANT YOU IN TORONTO! IF THIS ISN'T PROOF THAT WE LOVE ESPORTS I DONT KNOW WHAT IS!!!

When he is not in Korea, where does Huk live in Canada? Does he live in Toronto?
|
I still can't believe I missed this I didn't see he was going until after it was over!

I assume being apart of team EG that he would stay in their practice house in Arizona (?) I think that's the right place. Since they are all on holidays I assumed where better to spend it then with family! And Huk's are in Canada!

What a really awesome thing to do. Props to Huk!
|
Wish I could've been there! It looked crazy there!
|

omg, wish I could've went, meeting huk and getting some ice cream at marble slab? sooo good
|
|
hey op, you work in the ice cream parlor? haha mad respects man! those douchebag security kick us out of eatons, but thankfully we were able to get pics and autographs with huk at your shop! many thanks!
what i have to say about the 2 players
combatex: he is arrogant as in his videos and online chat, but he isnt truly an asshole, and he's actually just funny. hopefully the community will stop hating him, because hes actually a very nice person irl.
huk: i was expecting him to be boastful and very loud. but in fact he is very respectful and quiet, from what i see at least. i was getting my picture with him, and his manager told him combatex proposed to play the matches first and then sign the autographs and pics after, but instead huk replied "no, my fans came all the way here for me". he was willing to set aside his pride, and willing to take the time for his fans. huk is truly a great and humble human being
tldr: both players are very nice guys, and i wish the best for their future endeavours
|
Ah I'm in those pictures! I feel embarrassed >.<
|
wow...i was at the eaton center at the exact same time!
|
So cool! I wish I coulda gone and got him to sign something You are so lucky! ^^
|
Sooo jealous ;__; i went to MLG providence and got to meet him there, but would've been cool to hang out when he wasn't busy competing.
|
It makes me happy to see such a huge turnout for something like this. I truly think that Esports are much larger than most people realize, and that it's great that HuK took the time to do this for his fans, and for Esports in general. I think it's safe to say that the entire Esports community truly appreciates what this ice cream shop did, and i know i do. Thank you HuK, and thank you Marble Slab Creamery, you've both done a great thing.
|
Really awesome from the owner of the icre cream shop to do this + 100 000 esports dollars for him :p.
|
Read his tweets for whoever said his parents live in Oakville. He hangs near some town called Cambridge. I checked out a map. Not close to Oakville. Sorry dude.
