So I've recently ended up growing my hair pretty long, about down to my shoulders. (Because im lazy as shit and because I thought chicks would sorta dig it >_>)
Anyway im going to end up getting it cut at some time over the next few weeks, but I would like to have that feeling of having some sort of control over it.
Basicly I want to know how to straighten it properly. I can get the main structure of the hair generally straight via combing, but there are lots of individual strands of hair that are all messy and unclean.
So, how the fuck do I deal with this? Any other tips for hair care as a male.

(Also I apologise for spelling mistakes, etc. Can't sleep due to having drunk 1.6 cups of coffee 5 hours ago and my back wont stop itching cuz of a goddamn sunburn.)

Cheers TL

If you want to straighten your hair, you should just use one of these:

EDIT:
It's called a flat iron in english IIRC.

This is the easiest way. Otherwise follow these steps exactly:

1. Brush hair
2. Shower, shampoo, condition
3. Blow dry hair
4. Brush hair (do not brush wet hair)
5. Put hair up until you go out (in a bun/pony tail)
6. Enjoy luxurious hair while out

You can't straighten otherwise not straight hair without heat. That being said, I would not recommend getting into it. There are various products and light oils that can help you remove stray hairs and give your hair body. Straight hair = overrated

Donate it to Locks of Love or some equivalent if it's really long. Goes to cancer patients. Good charity.

Let me clear a misconception: most chicks don't dig it. Have it cut and work out.
Just my five cents.

As said before, flat iron works best.

If you're lazy like me you shower, comb it properly, use hair mousse and then tie it together. Let it airdry while it's moussed up and in a ponytail (don't use too much of that crap, a little bit is usually enough). That makes it look clean and cleared up.

You are both wrong. Chicks dig awesome guys. I can't count anymore how often I've heard "Ohmy... I never thought I'd get in bed with a long haired guy/guy like you/someone who looks like you/etc. but... you're.. kinda different."

PS: The time from almost shoulder-long to slightly-below-shoulder was the worst part of my life. Lucky I was like 15. =D ... Imo until you can all fit it in one ponytail you will look like crap most of the time. Just fight through it. <3

PS #2: Depending on your hair structure in general (A good haircutter will tell you this. Carefull - most haircutters suck when it comes to males with long hair. Try and find some girl that looks goth/metal related, those usual know how it should look.) you might want to have a slight undercut. Since we males usually don't want to associated with cute and fluffy getting rid of the "fluffy" hair right above your neck/ears makes usually sense.

But seriously, invest some time into finding a decent haircutter. I didn't have that "slight undercut" I just mentioned for like 5 years then I found a girl who had a longhaired bf herself and she got it perfect. Looks way better and cleaned up. For me the undercut is about 1 1/2 fingers from where my hair starts growing, that got rid of all the random fluff.

PS #3: If you want to look clear/clean/smart make sure your clothing/the rest of your grooming is in top shape. While a longhaired guy with a groomed beard in a suit is mostly associated with being cool / mafia / player / some dude who has money but definitly not works in a bank, a longhaired, unshaved guy in sleazy clothes is more likely to be associated with being some lazy bum or the rock/metal/goth scene (for most people that's pretty much the same =D).

PS #4: Wow, I can't find a damn picture of what I mean.

Here you go (photoshop op) - that's where the cutting line should be for long hair to look clean:

Whenever i try to grow my hair out it just turns into what the early beatles looked like it wont actually grow out. I would love to have long hair but i hate what my hair does instead.

In my opinion chicks will dig a good self-esteem way better than any kind of hair. Ofcourse you have to look like you care though.

Long hair takes times to treat it, make it look good without being too fucking curly or "chewbacca" looking

Have to buy one of those iron flat thingie + creams + enjoy the pain with some other products that feels like its melting your head,
Had long hair for 2years decided to cut it and made my life alot easier and cleaner.

It got some girls but ive gotten more with my short hair. "after i cut my hair i looked at photos of me in long hair and said what the fuck was i thinking?!"

Good luck if your'e gonna keep having long hair.

Growing your hair long because you think chicks dig is among the most out of touch things I've ever heard. Unless you're under 18, after grunch chicks, or some other jazz.

I've got pretty long hair, too but I don't need any extra tools, because my hair is naturally straight. I use to get girls with all lengths, so I think it doesn't matter that much. There are a lot of long haired subcultures out there
first we make expand, then we defense it.

Put it in a pony tail when you can. I used to have long hair and the hair doesn't get in your way as much as it would otherwise. You will get sick of straightening it I guarantee it because it is very time consuming.

You thought chicks would dig long hair?

Unless you're Fabio or some other special exception, that's not likely.

If you have long hair, you're going to need it really well-maintained, which means you might need hair products. And it's going to take more than 30 seconds to wash in the shower. Bah.

There are so many other (better) ways to get a girl than having long locks... if you don't have the personality (or the other looks), you won't get the girl anyway. And if you do have the personality (and/ or the looks), you don't even need the long hair.

I have somewhat long hair and I use a flat iron, this is only because I have curls and I like the "emo look" as some call it

Maybe u could try and get dreads tho, dunno how this would fit to you.

Fail.

I had to my shoulders, huge complitments all the time. People don't give a crap if it isn't short, most people will actually respect u for trying new things and also a lot like guys with long hair. To describe my hair before I got it cut. Chewbacca, just my hair was triple length lolz :D
