Hi everyone, I will turn 30 in 2012 and I recently went back from SC2 to BW (which I've been playing since 2000) and started laddering a bit on ICCUP just for fun (I'm a pretty crappy player).
And then this silly thing happened that made me feel SO FUCKING OLD T__T; 
I make a game on Lost Temple which btw is motw. Some random dude with a decent record joins my game and type "plz remake I don't know this map, remake on Python". Of course I go like "WTF you don't know LT ? L O L", the guy instantly leaves the game. At that moment I was simply amused.
Then another guy joins and I ask him if he speaks english, he answers positively and I decide to tell him the story :"hey guess what happened a guy joined and bwahaha he didn't knew lost fucking temple lmao roflcopter mystoryissocool"
And then, the guy goes "ah ...." "go ...."
And then I just felt like those old guys that try so hard to cranck out corny jokes at family meetings but nobody ever get what's funny about it because of generation gap and thus nobody gives a fuck about what they're saying.
Today I just felt like one of them, and I respectfully ask, ladies and gentlemen, for a bit of your compassion, for the old bastard that I am.

Haha oh man. To be fair though, even since I started taking this game seriously, which was about 3 years ago, LT has hardly made any appearances in my journey.
The older I get the more I feel for how older people must feel when they talk about stuff that has no impact on younger folk. I feel for them. Now I can take a lot more interest in the stuff they talk about because most of the time it is interesting to me even though at first glance it is completely irrelevant and boring.
Getting old won't be fun though. ;_;

Python is pretty old too, but both are bad maps though..  /
The cool kids play on Fighting Spirit nowadays....

I don't play BW but every time someone challenges someone on TL it seems to start on Fighting Spirit. (what fabiano said, lol)
Also, you are BoxeR's age. That makes you not old.

Wow 30. Id be posting a similar blog here when Im 30 more than a decade from now and feel nostalgic about SC2, and how im feeling now bout you will exactly be the same feeling those reading my blog then will have lol.

Well, Python is kinda the new LT imo. Players who are new to the game and don't really play different maps at all usually start with python nowadays (that has been the case since a while i guess). Eventho cases of players who really play only one map are much rarer due to ICCUP and MOTW.
So when you'd start BroodWar nowadays you'd probably play mostly on python first.
But yea that just a desperate try to explain it. I mean who doesn't know LT? WTF
Edit: WHAT it's not even Python anymore? I mean THE standard map only changes once in a decade or smth. Now I feel old, too.

I kinda dislike that most ppl only play on FS or sometimes Python though, especially on Fish; there are so many great maps that are totally worth playing and can produce amazing games

When Match Point was MOTW I played a lot of people that didn't know it. I mean, Match Point isn't even an old map, is it? I remember it was very popular some time ago (before I took a big break from BW).
It seems like FS is replacing all the other maps on today's players memory.

There are a lot of great maps other than FS and Python (which are like 95% of all games on iccup). In my experience when you play a map that is good but not popular, when someone joins your game they will say they don't know the map, but if you can get them to play at least 1 game on it, they will start to like the map more. It's just most people don't even look at other new/interesting maps if they are not that used on iccup, even if those maps are used in proleague or osl.

Python is basically lost temple but with some of the imbalances fixed, but like others have pointed out FS is now the "default" map these days.
However, I thought everyone and their mothers know Lost Temple but I guess not lol

I know Python has been used as the "standard" map for a while though since I made a quick BW comeback before SC2 beta (I played broodwar from 2001 to 2006 but never in "hardcore" mode).
I'm not a huge fan of Python btw, I think it's a pretty dull map and pretty hard TvP, a bit like Luna.

Impressive to not know LT regardless on when you started to play BW. LT and Hunters are like mandatory maps you just have to know. Like just for the history of the maps ect. Ok to not play them on ladder but still. LT can really produce some nice games to be honest.

LT was such a classic except that I got 2-tank dropped on the cliff near my natural (PvT) and that lead to a series of fails from me into an epic loss into buying dinner for my friend (the opponent) T_T;; fun times, fun times! I miss BW, should probably call up some friends for more dinner-bet games.
