For those of you who may not know me, I am ls/lastshadow, a 19year old American Zerg/Terran player from the USA who has been living in Korea for the last four months and had previously lived with MVPB/ProS, and am now residing at the GOMHouse. I plan to continue to stay in Korea indefinitely, all other achievements/information can be found elsewhere, thanks.
Hi everyone, I'm making this thread to better keep track of my vLogs for everyone, and also use it as a tool to gain insight on what to do for future vLogs etc (such as answering questions, discussing certain topics, etc). I should be making one vLog every few days, where sometimes they'll discuss strategy, and other's just life in Korea/general discussion about the community/and whatever else.
Please note all the vLog's will most often start off with some minor updates on some basic things for one to two minutes that are not related to the title, however will surely contain what the title suggests.
I will be adding replay packs periodically as well, and they can be found below. I will update them bi-weekly.

Really enjoy your vlogs man, very intresting opinions etc. Hope your hand gets better so you can qualify for GSL!

These vlogs are cool, keep it up.
|
Btw if you wanna shorten or change your ID just do it when ever you get on a team since that would be an easy way to make it official. ^_^v
|
Korea life sup ^_^ Keep toughing it out man you're doing well.
|
Awesome. Like the vlogs a lot! Keep it up and play 70 games / day. 60 wont cut it man....
|
I really like your dedication, I wish you the best of luck and hope you can find a korean team to pick you up!
edit - Just read your protoss vlog and I completely agree on all your points.
|
Glad your hand is feeling better
|
good work keep it up buddy ^^
|
Really enjoying the vlogs, feels like you are one of few people really trying to understand the game.
|
you said "stuff like that" like over 10 times in the first 4 minutes of vlog #7;; good luck
|
Just start making vlogs and stop playing starcraft.

|
Good vLogs =) You talk about very interesting and fun stuff. I hope you're training goes well and your hand heals properly so we can see you with some good success.
Question: In vlog #7, you mentioned how the korean's "gave up" on other koreans who went to foreign teams to get more money. Do those players who switched such as Phoenix, Yong, etc. get bashed or looked heavily down upon by the korean scene?

Hey LS, just a general topic you can give us in a future vLog. Could you give us a little insight to your training regimen? I understand you play 60+ or so games a day, and watch replays from the ending to the beginning. What I'm trying to understand is how do you evaluate a "successful" day of training. For example, in the games you played, did you improve on a certain skill? Mechanic? Build? Timing? Or was it successful as in you got a lot done? Did you achieve any goals set out?
I understand playing a lot certainly improves a players ability to play/understand the game. What I don't understand is how one would evaluate their own progress. Simply grinding games willy-nilly won't improve a player; however, a player with goals, and a plan would get better results. I'm just tryign to get at your mindset for a daily routine and the things you want to accomplish day to day.

Sorry XD, didn't meant to offend you if I did, that just proves my lack of knowledge. I'll edit that out, didn't realize there were 2 illusions but I'm glad i know now =)

really enjoy your vlogs!! keep it up and glgl!

What's with all the hate on Koreans who join foreign teams about? PuMa and HerO are on foreign teams and its not like their skills suddenly turned to shit because they participate in a lot of foreign events, if anything you can see a clear skill rise in both players.
Is it just a Korean cultural thing or something?
|
Will you be making a vlog about why you decided to leave The Vines to pursue a progaming career?

This isn't true. If you study Puma's gameplay from a year ago compared to now, you can actually see a slight decline in his fundamental mechanical ability, which is awful considering that people have generally improved over the same period of time. Furthermore, he has completely dropped out of GSL. Also, when you consider the fact that he was ranked in the top 50 or so Elo among BW players when he switched, I believe the only one ranked higher than him when they switched was MVP. This means that Puma should about top 5 Terrans in Korea, but the fact is that he is not even close.
I can't speak for hero, since I didn't know about him before he switched to TL, but his Korean results are mediocre at best.

when 8th vlog will be up?

Nice vlogs man, good initiative. Wish more players would do these. And more than once every 3 months (tyler).

Team Liquid/Team EG are one of the 3 exceptions I think this applies to, I was more targetting people like Yong/rain/hwangsin (no offense to them as people intended, but as players... this can't be good for their career)

great vlog. im terran master players and after that im really impresed w/ your nowlage about the game
edit: i come up w/ an idea that you can make vlog about how a random player should play.
|
It's about fucking time kid. Do you know how many times I went onto youtube and had to search and find the gosugamersnet thing? (I'm not subscribing to gosugamersnet just for your vlogs)
1. Play Terran again. 2. Consistent vlogs please <3<3<3
thanks for putting together this organized thread. <3<3<3

It's my own youtube now, I have no affiliation to gosugamers.net anymore. Thanks, and I still play TvZ.

Loved #8 as a Terran player. Only thing I'd love is for you to refer to specific games as examples of what you're talking about rather than just "what Thorzain's doing".
|
I liked your part about timing attacks. Timing attack on the forums: attack randomly when you have researched your +1. ~~

ThorZain vs Morrow on Shattered Temple is a great example from this past NASL.
|
I am curious about the EV thing. Do explain more.
Don't take this as a personal attack, but I believe based on reps that you were playing on Yosh's behalf during TSL2 when he got disqualified for some cheating. You probably have other things to thank him and admire him about other than skill.
I don't like your attitude towards the foreign scene, even though I agree that foreigners are not that dedicated to getting good at this game. You have a bit too much resentment towards the community, maybe you should try to re-earn the respect of it rather than snub it based on the "foreigners suck" argument. We already have Rekrul saying that shit, but he can post whatever he wants on this site, and he gets his e-penis licked by all of it. You sir, are not going to go very far with that attitude, the internet forums can be very irrational...
|
? I didn't play in TSL2 because I wasn't allowed to, the yOsh situation is a whole other story, but it does not take away from the fact that it was/is my belief he was one of the greatest foreign minds in all of SC1 history.
About the foreigners comment, we are bad, there is no sugarcoating it, we lack dedication, passion and drive, the majority of foreigners care about glamour, what is there to be hiding from that? It's not the community, nor am I targeting specific people, I'm simply saying Korean's are better and this is why.
You're saying you dislike my attitude, because I have the drive of a Korean and look on with negativity when I see foreigners falling further and further behind? I don't understand this.
|

I can't help but agree with you. Though of course there are exceptions.
I don't really blame the players (most of the time) though. It's just the way this culture is towards sc, compared to korea's culture towards sc. But, as sc2 grows more in the foreigner scene, so will the competition, and with more competition, comes more training and I think then is when we'll see the really serious foreigner training. Love your blogs though. As a zerg player who can't play or understand terrans very well, you're vlogs have been insightful =)
|
Love your vlog, especially enjoyed the Terran one. Wish you still played Terran exclusively. Foreign pros really seem to struggle with Terran, theres a real shortage of top foreign terrans, could do with another one to support!
|
A vlog on you walking around Korea would be nice. Keep up the sick dedication and really informative, funny vlogs.

It's a saying for basically vines = dependency, so leaving it makes me independent. At least that's what I got from it. None the less, this was sort of answered in my interview with Artosis, but I'm not going to talk about it publicly.

Hey I just got done watching 3 of your vlogs and I was curious about your 3rd one about your BM reputation.
I met you at a LAN about a year ago we didn't really talk, but you did knock me out early 1st round @_@. Honestly from eavesdropping a bit you seemed like an odd character but not so much bm at all. I don't like to judge too hard based on first impressions. But my friend who had played in a BW LAN tournament with you years back has a different opinion, saying that you were a douchebag for whatever reason that may be.
I don't know what you were like back then but would you say that you are definitely a truly changed person from what you were in your years playing BW? I just find it really interesting because most people just simply don't change, some may change on the outside like put up a face of some sort but inside they still have the same personality.

I'd say I've been through more than enough to make me change for bad and good reasons, but none the less I'm happy with how far I've come and am glad I just kept going. I still have ways to go though, and still as I said, am working on just biting my tongue completely(but I don't think this means I'm putting on a "face", since I'll answer honestly to questions etc, much like IdrA openly does during interviews/etc)

Good videos, looking forward to the replay packs. You could consider sending replays to some casters as well, it's probably not in line with your goals but might be fun for people following your progress.

Nice Vlogs, and much respect as a player. Putting a face and personality to the player can ONLY help e-sports and your own career.
Keep up the good work!

Enjoyed your insights on all of the other podcasts so far.
Warmly waiting for the 9th podcast. I'd like to see if there's anything there I could personally apply.

Every few days I release a new one, probably tomorrow.

I like your down to earth nature, lastshadow.

Your a pretty awesome player and have a good view of the scene. I was wondering if you thought a player that goes to college and decides to go pro after college could be as successful as the same person who instead was serious about training. Also, when you larva inject how often do you miss a hatchery or how much practice did you need so that you didn't miss?
Thank you very much.

Alright I'm done with this kid.
LS, you know it takes a really special type of asshole to make some bad ass vlogs with his "way above average" knowledge of SC mechanics and general game play then lures in a bunch of new fans with 'consistent vlogs coming' then DOESN'T UPDATE SHIT FOR 2 FUCKING WEEKS.
Is it too much to ask for to take 20 minutes out of your Korean life-style when you probably sit around all day, to sit there with your fucking American Eagle hoodie on and your fucked up messy hair and talk about Starcraft? Oh hey Fnatic.ToD, lets go get a donut, okay now what do I do? MAKE A FUCKING VLOG.
I'm sorry to hear that your only 19 and your hand is all fucked up with your need of medication. Maybe you should take some adderall to help you sort your shit out. Because you're vlog 10 is 2 weeks late.
Listen LS, I need this. I just got done with 6 years of college, going to be working 60 hours a week, When I'm home I want to watch a vlog of someone that actually knows the game. You're lucky I decided to take the college route and not pursue gaming. You're also lucky you didn't play WC3. Because when I was 15-19 I was playing WC3 and I would have fucked you up at WC3 on NA (Azeroth).
Okay forget all that just keep bringing the vlogs man your awesome LS <3<3<3<3 dual racer pwner :o love your shit man.

Okay replay pack uploaded: Includes a few games featuring HwaseungOz_Bee (decided not to upload all of them without asking him if it's okay to upload all). Also same as last time, games vs IM/NSHoSeo/oGs/StarTale/etc members and of course any other random GM's/High Masters from Kr. I play both T and Z in this replay pack.

LS, what's it like being friends with desrow? In one of your own videos you said fat people will have a hard time getting good at this game because they're simply slower (finger movements). Do you think he has a skill cap? Also do you think playing Protoss which might have more slower mechanics at times during the duration of the game benefit slower players?
Thanks.

Nice vLog, keep up the good work!
|
Last Shadow! your'e my hero, even though you switched back to Terran! > lol
|
|
Watched all the vlogs, he seems like a really smart guy, I'm really curious how he will do in tournaments.
|
really nice vlogs dude maybe in the next one you could talk a little bit about your past (starcraft 1, poker, life) and your goals and your future in starcraft 2? might be too personal but it would be cool
EDIT: if not maybe you could talk about your improvement since you got to korea and sc2/life lessons learned and realizations.
keep it up

great you're back again! im glad you switched back to terran because im playing it too so i will benifit more will you try to get to Code A in january 2012?

I watched all the replays and my only request is some replays of macro TvZ games pretty please. Also more macro games of TvP and TvT there were only like 1 of each
Also you never fully explained what EV is and how to use/calculate it.

He takes the term from Poker.
Expected Value = our % chance of winning * (the pot) – our % chance of losing * (the money to invest)
In his Vlog he basically just used it to describe a more optimal army efficiency by using terrain. There's no way real way to apply it to SC2, you could assign random values (bigger army bigger values or whatever) but there wouldn't be any science behind it... It's more of a way to talk and see things/philosophy than anything else in my opinion.

You can apply it to sc2 and I explained how numerous times on stream and gave examples of it. I'll do an extended vLog on it I guess in the near future.

the replays were pretty hilarious, you're cheesy as fuck and I love it :D especially that TvP rep where it looked like you're gonna go for a macro game but then just went fuck everything, and pulled like 70 SCVs off two bases to go and kill him, lol

Vlog Request:
Talk about some of your BW background / early SC2 strats that you've created. I didn't play BW, didn't really know you up until a few months ago and more recently until I saw your GG vlog. Also about how you go into the GOM gaming house, stuff like that sounds cool.
Thanks.

Hey Nick, nice try in code A quallies dude. You just switched back to Terran, hand was really bugging you for awhile, you're going to do fine going forward. Keep up the good work man. I know your number 1 focus is to be the best SC2 player ever, which us, your fans love.
However I think I speak for us all that we would like more 'set' streaming time so I can rearrange my schedule to watch you more, and definitely more vlogs. BW history, talk about your games in code A qualies, your opinion on the current state of terran, etc.

His opponent, King Kong, is a pretty decent zerg. I've seen him a couple times in the KSL daily. He plays for ST so i'm sure he practiced hard. Wish I could've seen the matches themselves. Good luck next season!

ToD just said on his stream IRC that LS is still there. Maybe LS will take some donations in exchange for a few vlogs?

i downloaded the your replay pack after hearing that your zerg practice increased your terran mechanics. This combined with your fascination and appreciation of flash led me to believe you were going to post games demonstrating a new level of understanding (mechanics/strategic) on your behalf. Instead, every tvz in the replay pack is proxy 11 11 rax...... >_>
dissapointing

Don't post untrue information, the vLogs are delayed because of Code A / I was sick.

Hmm idk "Kfcnoob" I think Last Shadow might know a little more about TvZ then you. It's safe to give him the benefit of doubt and assume he knows more strategies then 11/11rax, however it looks like hes purposely not released many macro games.
My question to LS is why proxy 11/11 rax over proxy 9/9 rax, isnt 9/9 better at punishing 15hatch?

Impossible to 9/9 2 rax lol. You have to have a supply depo made to make a rax so impossible.

You build the supply depot on 9, see Namchir vs IdrA where Namchir did it twice to idra and won both times even though it was scouted pretty early by IdrA

namchir is like the king of NA Terran cheese. He's been cheesing IdrA since beta. I remember his 2x rack port banshee vs IdrA he raged so hard.
9/9 is a total all in, no? 11/11 seems more cost effective, but i have no idea. Never did the 9/9.

9/9 Is really weak I would imagine, weaker than the 11/11 I would think in the long-run of things .

I might make a new one tonight and base it around coaching, cause I've seen quite of a lot of things about that market lately.
Anyway I just got over pneumonia, and before that I had a mix of bronchitis/ear infection. Before that I had a basic cold (I've literally almost been sick over a month, and I was also sick in america while coming to Korea.)
Hope this explains my absence, sorry.

Been traveling and haven't had the chance to check in. Wow that's crazy man I hope you're okay. Serious hand injury/pain, cold, pneumonia, bronchitis/ear infection? Dude, I just lived off fast food/pizza for about the last 18 months while finishing university and I don't even think I got more than a semi-serious cough/runny nose/sore throat a few times during that span.
Are you concerned at all of your overall health with all of those things happening in just a month? Those are some pretty serious things that you shouldn't be getting just from being inside/computer gaming. Well the hand pain is from that, however I really think you should consider a lifestyle change Nick.
I don't know all the living conditions over there but I really think it would benefit you to sacrifice 2-3 games a day to prepare a good meals and get on a better sleeping schedule. You simply just shouldn't have that many things wrong with you in a month at your age of what, 19?
I remember you said during your spread of 200 games that you would drink a lot of water which is great. Try to include some all natural fruit drinks or green tea's if you don't already. I could easily see a pro gamer going awhile without a good combination of fruits. Try to drink constantly so your throat says unclogged and moist. I'm no doctor but I would think that would help against getting into sicknesses with your throat. For ear infections? You gotta use Q-tips man. I know people that go a year without properly cleaning their ears. I had some ear infections when I was very young like 3-5 years old, and now I use Q-tips every day and never have any issues. Like does the GOM house have people that clean that place? I'm just kind of in shock how someone so young can get so sick so fast. Sounds like a cesspool with germs.
---
As far as everything else goes. I would love for you to get on a consistent streaming schedule. I know your plan is not to be popular. It's to be the best SC2 player ever. However you could have a really strong fan base going with ease. Consistent streaming schedule, consistent vlogs, etc. I know it might be tough over there cash wise, however I really think you can do a lot of things to help gain revenues over there. I'm sure some people would be willing to donate as well if you increased your viewership. You need to show yourself more. It's so hard from a fan's perspective to even follow you at the moment.
Hope everything works out, good luck LS!!! <3

I think he CAN'T stream due to Gom changing the processors in the PCs.
Also, perhaps getting sick so often was because it was winter, and very cold? You can't just jump to the conclusion his lifestyle is bad or something.
Can't wait for the new vlogs!

I can't jump to conclusions with the lack of knowledge of his situation, surely you're correct. However that's a lot of semi-serious things to have happen in such a short period.
I'm in Taiwan right now and just wore a t-shirt outside for the past week. It can't be that cold in Korea right now. Do you really think it just being Winter would cause all of those things? His lifestyle is definitely bad if you're getting that sick that fast. Drink some fucking green tea and stop eating donuts all day. He is wearing a hoodie in most of his vlogs so I believe he is properly dressed. It's got to be poor eating/sleeping.
You're also right about the processors. I remember him mentioning that. Strange that desrow/tod have pc towers that can handle streaming but his doesn't.
Man it's so hard to be a fan of this kid right now.

My statement was in regard to me as a Terran player craving for that "Artosis of Terran". There's simply nobody that constantly streams as a Terran and gives good commentary. Demuslim's stream was so fucking awesome for the month he did it. I actually think he had some passport issues after that then got laid and just stopped.
Then LS comes out with these fucking sick vlogs shitting on the scene with his knowledge. He's NA, very good, intelligent with the game, in korea training hard, definitely made me a fan.
Now no stream, no code A updates from himself (only from wiki), rare posts in this thread, have to find out from a random poster that he might be getting kicked out, and now we find out weeks later that he was insanely sick.
Do you know how many times I searched youtube for the GG/his personal youtube for new vlogs/this thread for vlogs? His Twitter isn't a bad source but it can go days.
It's literally hard trying to be a fan of this kid and he's told me personally that he doesn't want to be popular. He laughed it off. He doesn't make the connection between:
Streaming, vlogs, (Media) -> money/revenue -> helping me stay in korea (food, rent, etc) -> being a better player (he is technically a pro) -> making it into GSL/"big time".
He's trying to get in with a korea team atm. I have no other news besides that. I hope he does so many we can get some more fucking coverage.

Now about your pointless green tea/q-tip rip. Are you a doctor? First off there's like thousands of green teas. Fuck I just walked into a 7-eleven over here and where in America where you have all the vitamin waters, gatorades, pops/colas, in asia then fucking have like 3 refrigerators of just green tea. There's insane everything in it from erbs, vitamins, veggies, antixoidates, etc. To say that it doesn't do shit is just ignorant and stupid in my personal opinion.
I actually recently bought some a month ago, a type that helped put you to sleep at night, and I actually notice a significant difference in the calmness it makes me feel. There's so many types that help you stay up longer, have more energy, etc. Like what is your logic behind even saying something like that?
Also, now with the Q-tips. They're bad for your ears if you stick them in too deep. I've had multiple ear infections as a kid and my inner ears are very sensitive. Like I can't get through my day unless I use a few in the morning. Every morning I use them. Have since I was little and I have no ear pain or hearing issues EVER. If you're a doctor I'd love to hear some the risks (seriously) however to just say that randomly is so stupid. At least I've used them for all my life to make the statement. I've never had any issues with my ears or infections while using Q-Tips my whole life. It cleans your fucking ears, his ears were infected, whats the logic here?

I agree totally. This is when you need to say, hey doc why am I getting so fucked up? Can you put me on some vitamins or something so I'm not consistently sick. Is it my immune system or what? And I guarantee you the doctor is going to ask the basic questions:

It's basic lifestyle shit.

Vlogs will come when the come. Writing walls of text won't expedite the process.
There's a huge world out there, I'm sure you can find many more things to do with your time then endlessly searching the internet for his vlogs.

Na you see, I used Facebook when it was actually cool and just for universitys. I only have 40 friends, close real friends, and family. Not computer gamers across the world lol.
But you all are right no point in arguing over some other kids life. I just want a legit Terran player to follow consistently because I don't have the time to play seriously anymore.

Can't get my head around solo play in this game. I'll play a 40 game vs a protoss on Shattered, half the map, solid game from both sides. Doesn't matter if I win or lose, I'll search again, get Protoss on Shattered again and not even want to play this game again for a week. However I love watching it.
I feel like the skill level I'm at mid-high masters is some-what respectable however to get to a consistent top 3 masters/GM you need to go into games with actual consistent build orders/study the game a bit more. I just search and do whatever.
Also I probably didn't mention but I'm a Network Administrator (computers, only thing I'm good with) which means I have access to the internet even at my job the whole day. It's not a big deal to have the stream up however its just not possible for me to game at work lol.
Please LS, we need you, you're our only hope!! <3

Nice blogs Will keep following! Sad that you're switching from Zerg, but I'll still be cheering for you in the Code B qualifers!

Looking forward to the TvP vlog. Are you gonna take part in the Code A online qualifiers?
|
Loved everything you said about Korea server especially about the timings being so much more precise and on point compared to NA.
|
|
Sweet vlog as always. Just a quick question, is it really worthwhile for a high masters or likewise to get a korean (taiwanese) account? As you are still not facing the best foreigners it shouldn't affect your game to much (ie you'll be diamond in korea, and thus meet as good players as in masters NA/EU but with the lag and less self esteem XD).
|
Yes, if you were trying to genuinely improve do you want to face people that are better at abusing things (foreigners) at a certain level, or players that are worse mechanically but usually are still hitting the right timings (koreans).
I think honestly it's something like this:
High Masters NA/EU -> mid~high Diamond KR Gold KR -> Mid-Diamond NA/EU Platinum KR -> Low-mid masters NA/EU
You're not playing vs the best foreigners because like I said there is no ladder in the world where you constantly hit them over and over with 90% success rate, only on korea can you hit gstl/gsl a/s line-up players over and over with such high success.

i glad you're finaly back i have a huge problem w/ TvP so i'm excited about next vlog. i'd like to say that i have the same fealing about foreigners going to GSL.
i have a question: do you watch and think that watching GSL/GSTL as a progamer is good? i mean should progamers watch sb they think is better just to learn sth and like see new BO and stuff?

Absolutely, it's how you build up your build-order arsenal, as well as possibly learn new tricks on maps and/or certain things about other matchups. Not to mention you get to see how a lot of people play in X-y-z circumstances under all different types of pressure. It's also good to watch m/u's that don't include your own race to possibly gain other strategical insight from other match-up's that can possibly apply to your own. Lots of examples I could list but I hope this answer will suffice.

who can take this guy seriously? i couldnt even get through the vlog without finding so many flaws in his "logic"
- thinks hes "good" and hes been stuck on master level in korea for so long now - who honestly didn't laugh when he said he thinks plat = master in NA wtf? gtfo korean fan boy is obvious korean fan boy - thinks being on NA or joining american teams is a "bad" thing, yet fails to construct the logical pathway in his mind that your skill --> will improve --> keep playing - thinks that people HAVE TO HAVE MADE A BUILDING AT A CERTAIN TIME, OR THEY LOSE? wtf is seriously wrong with you, if you rely on someone having something at X:00 mins, they will just use that against you, what a horrible way of thinking. can't say he's guilty of this alone though, alot of people when they lose say the person played wrong, without realizing if you truly are good or skillful you should adapt to anything regardless of whether or not it goes by your timings.
btw to anyone that attests point 1, he can't even win NA tournaments and loses to NA GM's and even high masters in tournaments such as KOTH.
Hilarious.

This post is like hilariously inaccurate, not an LS fanboy or anything but you just seem to be flaming him pretty senselessly. First off 'being stuck master in Korea for so long' Lastshadow finally seriously decided on a full time race like not even 3 months ago, before then he was playing Terran and Zerg at a top 10 Korea masters level not to mention off-racing to GM on NA. While I agree that Plat Korea doesn't equal Masters NA I think your taking what he said out of context. Again I don't think he meant being on a NA team is a bad thing I think your taking this out of context as well. Coming back to point 1 like I said LS just seriously started playing Terran full time and you expect him to like destroy KOTH? Some seriously good players play in KOTH and I just don't think LS has played enough games main T to have everything figured out to compete with top pros and Koreans. You really shouldn't doubt this guy he has an incredible mindset to improve and has unbelievable dedication to the game, his raw mechanics are so sick I believe Artosis said LS has some of the fastest hands in game up there with top Koreans.
To even further dispute your point about LS not being a good player, Lastshadow has been really sick pretty much his whole time in Korea not being able to play for long periods of time, also plagued with insane pain in wrists I believe leaving him not be to play for extended periods of time. Dealing with unstable living conditions moving from the GOM house to with his friend Hwaseong Oz B (Or something like that) can't be good for practice. All in all stop doubting the guy he has INSANE potential lacking practice and still taking games off good players such as ST_KingKong in the Code A Quals, give him a chance and stop the flaming.

Lol, you really don't know who you are supporting.
My hate stems from his actions towards other pro gamers, he essentially insults others for things that make absolutely no sense. I didn't take the plat thing out of context he literally typed that and reinforced it, obviously now he won't admit that. He creates ideas that are just plain wrong to give away the illusion he is an "intellect", when his "theories" make no sense at all, like "ev" please stop seriously.
For lastshadow = if you aren't in korea = trash, despite the fact he can't beat half the decent NA players at all - even before his "injuries".
|
No, I know excactly who LS is from his time in Broodwar and the SC2 scene.
I can see your point when you say his actions toward other Pro-gamers, LS is pretty arrogant and won't hesitate to spout off on ladder. I guess we can agree to disagree on his therioes a lot of theroy craft makes sense, and he presents his ideas and opinions in a very well thought out and intelligent manner. EV is expected value a term used pretty often in poker and it translates to SC2.
Your taking it the wrong way if you think he means 'if your not in Korea your trash' I think he means if your not in Korea you can't play at the very highest level, which is completely true. If you want to be the best you have to be in Korea, you have to put in those hours and that time you won't find any pro-gamer who will argue against that.

I played trial games vs MVPGalaxy, MVPRoyal, MVPFinale, MVPDream, ZeNexAvenge, MVPDongRaeGu, MVPLeader, MVPTalent(now RS.WnagMuna) and did pretty well, got the invite to live at their affiliated house as their main house was full and my TvP was pretty weak. You can find this here on TL as even the ProS (former MVP-B coach) acknowledges this.

LS has been in korea for so long, besides going to get donuts once in a while the kid is on the internet/computer all day just trying to get better at SC2, to be the best. You're obviously a troll account so its pointless to continue talking about it.
Pretty sure idra would get cheesed out of some NA Koth's too. Bad players have better chances of beating a good player than some other good players do. Well because SC2 is still kind of shit atm.
Also, team light has a gaming house so I'd bet money binski sits near KR and they probably just both talked shit IRL on you idiot. ahahahhah
Keep up the vlogs please nick. The stuff you said in the last one just makes me feel so happy. Happy that I actually don't play anymore, because doing all of those little things would just piss me off so bad because I probably could never do them all consistently. Good luck.

he didn't get cheesed from KOTH, he lost to minigun and no gg'd SC2 is shit - what a hilarious comment, why does he dedicate his life to it then? I love this moronic notion that less skill players are winning, the skilled players if they are really skilled need to adapt. Ofcourse "semi-pro's" which LS and light are will keep complaining to make their time expended into this game feel justified.

So from your comments in this thread it's evident you play this game at a relatively low level and your just here to troll and flame LS as opposed to providing real thought or insight into why you think his play is bad or why you think his theories are wrong. Instead of sitting here insulting multiple people far more skilled and accomplished in this game then you are maybe your time would be better spent getting your skill up or learning to argue better or something...

Hey LS,
thanks a lot for the enlightening vlogs! I've really enjoyed watching them so far and I can't wait for the PvT analysis!
I've got a few protoss related questions for the upcoming PvT vlog (I'm currently in NA master league)--
1) In PvT, I've been practicing a 1 gate expand into a blink-stalker midgame with at least 1 forge for upgrades and immortals/sentries for defense (the same build Genius did vs sC in game 1 of the ro32). Perhaps you could do a "walkthrough" of this style from the protoss perspective? I really like the blink stalker army in PvT midgame but there are a lot of scenarios where I'm not entirely sure if I'm moving my army around the map in the best way possible. For instance, if he moves out of his base for some kind of MMM timing is it ever a good idea to blink into his main and force him into a base-trade mentality? If it is okay, then what buildings should I kill immediately and when should I retreat? Is there a scenario where I can punish a greedy terran by bringing my immortals+sentries+zealots into the fight as well? Also, what sort of reads can/should I be making of the terran in the midgame (for example, rax/addon count, bunker count, starport timing) and how should my tech decisions reflect these reads? I have some general ideas as to what to transition into based on what I see, but usually it feels kind of free-form ESPECIALLY when it comes to getting 1 forge vs double forge and the timing of my third. So if you could touch on some of the concrete timings I should be aware of, that would be awesome
2) I recently started using the f-keys (f1-f4) and while I don't really have a problem remembering to set/use them, I was kind of curious as to what most pros actually set them to. Currently, I have it so my mouse 4 button is set to my main base, f1 is my ramp or natural choke (if i'm fast expanding), f2 is a watchtower or the middle of the map, f3 is the enemy choke. I'm starting to think it might just be better to have f1-f3 be set to my 2nd-4th bases and f4 to a watchtower because currently I find myself clicking on the minimap/dragging the screen a lot in the lategame when I'm managing 3 or more bases. I know it's not a huge issue, but I'm interested to hear what you think is the optimal setup for a protoss player.

LS,
Have you ever played around with going Blue Flame Hellions? Personally at my skill level, Mid masters NA (pretty terrible still I know) I have trouble with charge lots. I think they're just really fucking strong. I know it might not be cost effective going Marauder - Hellion - Viking because that's 3 different groups of upgrades you need for those units. However I've found BFH's effective vs large chunks of Chargelots because it just drives me nuts having to "kyte" backwards across map vs the Chargelots. In addition the medics get caught inbetween both armies and Stalkers auto the medivacs and before I know it I'm fucked.
I know you've discussed in your 3 part series of TvP that the T should never lose that main battle. However you need to have strong unit control to pull off a lot of what you described. Is there anything else you can suggest for non-pro players besides the standard Bio + Vikings? The reason I've said BFH's is because I've noticed that once all their Zealots are gone their army is much weaker. It something I'm still playing around with but because BFH's are cheap you still have good gas for Marauder/Viking.
Basically mass BFH's get them to commit to a large amount of Stalkers and Cols. Then run them over with Marauder/Viking. I'm not sure how this would work because I know you said that Marines are the most important unit. Just wondering on your thoughts about that. I've seen some EMPs and 8-10 Hellions make like 40 food of Zealots disappear insanely fast.
thx

I'd still like some TvP replays.

General but espeacially TvP, how do you think is the best way to learn a match-up? How do you think the TvP matchup is going to evolve (from both Protoss and Terran point of view)? When having problems with a certain situation in a match-up (for exemple, ghost timing pushes) how do you think it should be aproached to make it a positive learning experience in general, not just something one dimensional that stops that given push? (You touched on that in the vBloq 14 and I think it's an intersting topic).
Thank you very much, you inspired me.

Some vlogs I'd like to see:
1) How to learn from watching streams I often watch streams, but I don't feel like I learn anything. I might see a cool build, but I won't be able to replicate it. So when pros say, "when I'm not playing I am watching streams/reading guides", what do you look for?
2) TvZ indepth
3) TvT indepth

Very interesting answers! Gj~

GREAT TvP blogs! i learned so much. thx!

didn't comment about my hellion question guess its just not a good strategy but I felt it was better than half the other questions. Guess the questions were only from twitter? T_T
thanks as always though LS!

good tvp blog, helped me understand late game alot better, not so scared of it anymore

Question:
As a zerg trying to learn Terran, I am having trouble learning the mechanics and gameplay. I feel they are quite opposite in those regards.
I know you said that playing zerg helped your Terran. What areas did it help you in specifically? What were some of things you had to specifically work on when switching between the two races?

Could you reupload the replay packs? Or could someone else who's downloaded them do this, as Megaupload is no longer there. Thanks.
|
Thank you so much for these!~ Late game TvP was driving me crazy until I found these gems ^.^
|
You should try to stream on twitch instead of Own3d because you aren't on gosugamers anymore.

Great vLogs. They are really instructive.
I have a question : When you FE, when do you build your CC in your main and when do you build it in the low ground? In any match up. Does it make a good edge to build it right away in the low groud? Because i see koreans sometimes building in the low ground with a very greedy build, and sometimes in their main with a safe build even if they scout no agression coming from the other player (Protss mainly). Thanks a lot.

Really good vods, keep it up!!

really nice vlog. I can really tell that you're putting a lot of thought into articulating your thoughts and strategies. Also, props on not saying stuff like that!
was wondering, what's the eta on you getting a pc and streaming again?

Good Player, Good Coach, Good Person =) Keep up the excellent work Nick

Holy shit can someone paypal this kid 20 bucks for a haircut.
Thanks for the vlog18 and rep pack!!! <3
|
Yeah so listening to all this shit makes me realize I'll never ever be this good or even have the motivation to put this much effort into SC2. I'll just be a fan instead keep it up nick!!
|
Really loving these vlogs! Please keep on doing them! I hope you can begin to incorporate replays etc more too, I think it would make the vlogs beyond awesome.
|
|
keep up the good work, it's really cool to see someone talking in depth about high lvl stuff
|
I'd like to see a balls deep guide on TvT mech, so much to learn!
|
Sick advice, so helpful for mid-tier players
|
Just bumping this thread for anyone else looking for updates.
Nick has confirmed that on 5/11 he will be doing an extremely long session of starcraft 2. He says he will be shooting for 222 starcraft 2 games. Someone calculated that 7 mins games x 222 = 26 hours, so its definitely going to be pretty insane. In addition to this he will be doing vlog#19 live.
|
Hey guys, just wondering if there are any other links to his replays? megaupload being seized by the government and all.
|
Really cool vblog, one of the only ones I've ever found the time to watch in sequence.
|
|
soo...what happened to all the vlogs on the new channel?
|
I don't think I've ever disagreed with someone more than when I listened to your vlog on discussing talent and hardwork...the part with Halo players simply doesn't make sense. Isn't concluding that the hardwork and practice Halo players used day in and out during their training equally as likely to be the thing that makes them better at other games, and not talent?
|
Why did lastshadow take down his original vids?
|
Hope he brings them back
|
Please come back Nick.
Why is it so hard to get into a permanent place over there Nick? Why can't you set up standard stream schedule, standard sleeping schedule, eat basic foods to keep you healthy, etc..
Wings of Liberty is basically fucking trash right now for Terran unless your MVP/MKP. I really think Heart of the Swarm Terran will fit your style more Nick. Please get it together. I'll be a huge fan if you do.
You can be yourself, some of us like your attitude. Just give others around you respect so you can stay in a gaming team house.
But then I remember when I was 19 and it all makes sense.
